What is the point in store owners big and small having unneeded scripts running in their store? Someone please tell me because it is becoming a bad habit for many of the store owners threw out the grid.
2-4 years ago we didn't have this problem. You could go into a store and shop without the lag of unneeded scripts running. Why the sudden boom? What is the point in it other then to cause more lag then needed?

A good scripter will keep their scripts very clean and mostly lag free.
for example scripts I write when I open a listener I set a timer so after a set amount of time the listener is turned off removing it therefore reducing lag.
I've noticed a lot of scripts don't care about what I call "script economy" just as people use "prim economy" to use fewer prims, scripters can do the same in their scripts, but a lazy scripter usually leaves a listener running full time, or uses llsensorrepeat without removing the sensor etc.
causes much unneeded lag and is sloppy scripting.

causes much unneeded lag and is sloppy scripting. I believe that is the problem at allot of stores big and small threw the grid lately. The ignore the scripts they are using and count the prims. Which then in turn leads the buyers beyond lagged when they try to shop at the store. I wish more scripters used your sense when writing their scripts. Maybe then stores wouldn't be so laggy. Until that happens I fully believe that all store owners need to limit their use of scripts because it is becoming a problem that is out of hand lately.

I hate moving floors and big textures. There is one store i love the clothes but can't stand the lag. It takes about 20 minutes for the clothing vendors to rez if there are more than 3 avies in the place. I have a good puter too. Anyone on a dinosaur would be grey for two hours.
Why do store owners do it?

I have 4 scripts running in my store...1 group joiner and 3 floating text. I think that's all. I don't run av counters or scanners, or any 'if I really could make you stop copybotting you would be so mad right now' scripts.

I would defo say the 'copybot stopper' script is unnecessary, I see that one all over the place and it doesn't even work.

From: 3Ring Binder which scripts do you consider unnecessary? Well that one that announces the 'copybot stop' crap everytime someone lands for one thing. Personally, I hate popping into a store and immediately getting offered a notecard, a LM, and a request to join a group. I don't even see the need for the "welcome to my store" message that gets dropped into chat every time a new person arrives.

I had one of those greeters once, I was upstairs in my shop and had just sent out a notice to a few freebie groups which brings in a bunch of avs at once...all I could see in my chat was welcome so and so, blah blah about 100 times. I ran down, disabled it, and haven't had one since lol

From: Ralektra Breda I would defo say the 'copybot stopper' script is unnecessary, I see that one all over the place and it doesn't even work. Yes that script is at the top. It doesn't even work so people just need to remove it already. Also some stores have prim bots that follow you around... There is no point for that. People want to shop and be left alone from bots. Scripts that reside in unneeded decorations. I am sorry but when I go into a store I don't look at the decorations.. I am going in for what I can buy. Its nice to see some decorations but keep the scripts out of them. Also I would say scripts that have to do with "club" style lighting. I have seen that in some stores and all it does is make it harder to shop and cause more lag. --I have a whole list on a NC in SL.. but with not being able to log in.. have to go with what is on my brain-- And yes I agree with Fatbottomgirl. Huge prims and moving floors/walls are not needed... they are at the VERY top of the unneeded scripts in a store list.

I have a few scripts including vendors and lucky chairs.... I have a greeter that is suposed to remember...... floating text.... But I have nto had anyone complain its laggy and I dont lag there... so maybe if people said some things shop owners could make alterations.

There have been times where I would land in a store and start getting like 5 NC's of things about that store and a LM.. I would turn right around and leave.

also any script that listens on channel 0 will really add to lag the more people that visit your store the more lag it creates almost exponentially since that script is parsing EVERYTHING that is said. also any items that chat on channel 0 will also be parsed by the same script listening on channel 0. that's why I recommend if you must listen on channel 0 for something perhaps change it to touch activated and put a timer so that after XXX seconds it auto removes the listener. Same for anything using a sensor. 2 huge sources of lag are: scripts that listen on channel 0 and scripts that use llSensorRepeat (which is technically runs in an infinite loop). those 2 aren't great for shops, and if used they can be modified to remove the lag problems by using a timer (to simulate a timeout) to shut off the listener and the sensor thats why llListenRemove() and no_sensor() exist. good tip is to not only be prim efficient but script efficient

there are so many fabulous ideas that require particles to make them work. you are really missing out on some clever, and beautiful ideas.

When we go out exploring or shopping and something uses particles and it actually looks good they will tell me to turn it on. So I really don't miss out on to much lmao
