The second I break down and buy L$, of course SecondLife refuses to start and just keeps crashing. Can anyone explain this?

It happens, it will get better. Clear Cache, relog.

Welcome to the forums.

That would probably be a coincidence.

Or vampires.

But usually the first thing to try is to clear cache (from Edit / Preferences / Network tab), and restart.

If you can't even get the login screen to appear, you may have to take more drastic manual measures (but then it will help to know which operating system you're on).

do you always try to buy Lindens when you have a breakdown, I've been told prozac helps.

Well Ive been trying to log in to my account for three days now Still getting THE SYSTEM IS LOOGING YOU OUT RIGHT NOW,YOUR ACCOUNT WILL NOT BE AVALIABLE UNTIL......

I must still appear to be on line as Im getting IMs (via Email) but Im not there.

Ive cleared cache and history even tried another computer still no joy

Waiting on support to get back to me again for the fourth time
