well I have been accused of having 'no filter' many times in my life, lol, I will pretty much say whatever pops into my head, to anyone around me, lol

Ditto but the difference is there are things I will say or do here more often because
few people are going to track down and tell all my neighbors.
But emotionally what happens here doesn't stay here for me once I turn off my computer.
In same way if I rezz into FD and I am feeling in first life bad it doesn't go away once I login into SL either.
There is certain things even though I have few to little filters around things I say I have my limits.
BDSM, sex work, etc I have done it in my first life and it had certain unpleasant effects for me so it not as fun to repeat here regardless of how many guys, gays and gals I could amuse with those stories.
It does very little for me personally and doesn't serve me here or anywhere else
to share unless I was doing it for sake of art.
Sharing my fantasies here or first life help no one else, not even myself so I just don't partake personally.
Sometimes it might show up in my artwork here but it's not like it's something
I am going to share with very many people either though.
My life usually is open book for those who ask and it's not like something I hide if
anyone reads or sees bits and pieces of it in my post or blog.
I am not ashamed of anything about myself but as collectively whole my life, my fantasies and anything else isn't up for anyone to tear a part for their amusement or some type of Jerry Springer type drama for sake of drama or their amusement.
Truth is I realize that most wouldn't care either way unless they were looking for something to entertain themselves with but as i get older there are just some things I realize most people just don't need to know about me or would want to know.
But others experiences may be totally different then my own and usually are.

But..... what if I decided that I like beastiality? I just don't think my friends or husband would understand.

...find friends that do? who knows, maybe some of your current ones harbor a secret fantasy... maybe your husband would like to see you dressed up like a pony, or wants to himself....

ok, maybe not, but you never know, and it sure makes for interesting conversation, although the real life reprecussions are probably not worth the possible jail time or mental hospital stay you'll get from "so, I thought it'd be fun to have sex with one of the pets, pass the mashed potatoes"... but the looks of astonishment will be priceless, and giving your mean-spirited relative a coronary has it's merits...

Now for the serious answer..........

When I was first in SL it gave me a chance to connect to other people. Due to life threatening health issues, I had cut myself off from the rest of the world. It also gave me a safe framework to work through and cast off the shackles of childhood physical abuse. So even though my AV doesn't look like, nor act anything like my RL self there is a very deep connection between SL and RL. Eventually I tired of most of the social interactions in SL but discovered scripting and this I have been able to bring back from SL into RL. Actually I have brought back much more then just the coding from SL. Each of the laughs, smiles, proud moments, crushing sorrow, rage and all other emotions happen in RL even if they were prompted by interactions with pixels in a computer.

Yerona, I petition for a divorce cos my other half is cheating on me with a pixel puppy. LOL !!! The judge probably have a heart attack. Or ... maybe not ... the judge maybe here SL with a puppy avatar. arggg !!! I stop thinking about this now I think =)

For someone in "public life" (read "politician";) (my friend Marybeth C. comes to mind) they will not necessarily be able to keep SL out of RL. No one can be sure that some reporter or someone on the other side of politics might be able to trace your SL avatar to the RL person, and publicize the SL activities. If I were running for office I would not want to get up some morning and read in the paper about that I was having sex with rabbits on SL! (I'm not).

For most of us that is not a concern, but for some it can be.

i think too many people feel they need to separate SL and RL.
too me it's just part of my life like any other thing i do when i am not working..i never felt the need to separate my love for riding horses from my life or web designing or anything else..

If people are hung up on what i do with my time it is them that has the problem not me..
If they pry they may get more information than they wanted to find because they have chosen to dig in my zone and disrupt my time and my hobbies..that will get them an ear full..

the only time anything and i say anything at all ..like SL or a sport or hobby gets in the way or takes over your life and hurts it in anyway..then that thing is a problem and is hurting you..if not then it is enhancing you..

i don't care what other people do in their lives or how they spend their time..
if they wanna love a Llama and marry it .thats their option..I'm sure not gonna break out all this i'm so honest routine and say ..hey you married a llama and thats wrong and call myself an honest person and be proud of myself for saying something out loud..doing that i would be a hypocrite by breaking the rules i wish everyone to take in consideration in letting me live my life..

honesty is not seeing someone wearing a fur and walking up to them telling them how you feel about people that kill animals..thats just being an ass and disruptive..

honesty comes from your own life and not feeling ashamed or the need to lie about it or any questions that may be asked or opinions..
you should never feel the need to be honest about yourself unless you have been dishonest in the first place..

people put pressure on themselves feeling they have to separate things in their lives when it is the people around us trying to make us feel certain things are wrong..

those people are just as human as me or you..who is to say they are right and we are wrong..them? not in this life time..

No that may have to stay in SL, but I can recommend a great shop for beastiality.

That is so true, to me anyway, and no, I actually for the most part don't have muct to say to average people, sure that isn't a shock. And yes i ssumed that most people are not 'do or die liberals' like the few in this post, myself included. I suppose one thing that may be unique to me, and maybe others, is the 'self made' aspect to my story. I suppose it is what is at stake, and what one has to lose in the matter, that being privacy.

But this was hugely informative, and yes as some guessed this stemmed from a conversation in SL, actually a series of random ones. With that theme, role playing, which I can so understand, that is what S&M and BSDM really is, playing dress up. So I suppose I am as guilty as the rest of you, maybe even more so, lol Because I play dress up in RL too, LOL

Thalic,
You are correct about people who lead public lives having to behave themselves on-line and in SL. I am not in elected office nor was I a candidate this year. Perhaps in the future. I am, however, somewhat a public person due to political and government activities. Therefore I am very careful on-line and understand that someone may be able to link any on-line activities to me. I participate in several on-line forums relating to politics and public policy. I use my real name and I am very careful what I say.

About a decade ago a person ran for office with an anti-porn agenda. His opponent, the incumbent, somehow found out that on-line, using a fake name, the challenger was participating in cyber-sex in a way that some would consider to be perverted. Fortunately the incumbent was very far ahead in the polls, so he never used what he had found. However, if the challenger had pulled ahead, his on-line activity would probably have been in the newspaper.

I don’t know how possible it is for someone to link SL activity with the RL person at the computer, but I doubt that it is impossible, given the amount of effort and money that would be available

For most people, that is not a problem. However, any time one enters the political or public policy arena, there is a loss of anonymity. We just have to accept that.

Well Atom, you are a self proclaimed hyper liberal that has no filter. You're on the far left of a society where most everyone is in the center. You have no reason to accuse anyone of harboring any kind of fetish. I'd say enjoy the fact that you can live the life you have but remember that there are consequences to your behaviour that you may not be aware of.

OMG -- Hubby and I both actually did LOL at this thought. And of course, we both have at least a few really really prudish relatives.

Even the best of us spell things wrong when we are somewhat hurried or multi-tasking too much or just not really paying attention -- isn't that right, Pep?
:p

But thank you for pointing it out. I skim read a lot and do not always notice the typos -- mine or others.

I prefer the spelling - beastiality, it makes more sense. Don't let the dictionary dictate how to organize your letters. The dictionary is for sheep and the anal folk.

Oh dear! Is this turning into another of those "Don't let the system decide how you think - anarchy rules!" threads? Didn't we just have one of those and even the anarchists decided they needed to agree how to spell anarchy.

Well I consider the feelings of those I deal with in SL and well any online community or game... quite a few don't.

I also keep what happens online out of what happens offline, much like I keep work stuff at work... and home stuff at home.

I can't stand people that come to work and spend all day on their cell phone calling about this and that... I can understand when something comes up and you got to get it taken care of asap... but not day in and day out.

But as for keeping stuff that happens in SL in SL... well most will. It's like trying to explain guild wars, wow or eve online to people... you're not going to be able to explain a lot of it.

After all... take eve online... "Well yesterday the corporation I'm in had a 0.0 attack raid just to annoy BOB's little pets... then I logged into my alt and mined for a couple hours in empire to help replenish our ammo stores.." Most people would be going whiskey tango foxtrot trying to figure out what you just said.

And then there is the fact that many will do things in sl they dare not do in rl, much like they do things when a tourist that they wouldn't do at home.
