Ok, I love my subscribe o matic, it is very nice having a non SL group, update group

but...

I am at just over 400 members, and am on the 500 members plan, which costs 2,990L per month

If I upgrade to the next level which is unlimited it will be 5,990L per month, that kind of cost I just can not handle (as it is the 2,990L is costing too much)

I would love to continue with the same kind of group, but not even sure what to search for, so...

if anyone out there knows of a system that is less costly but just as user friendly (both as owner and subscriber) please let me know

and I will continue my search in the meantime

update (yes that was quick)

duh me, I decided to hit slex and try a search for subscribe.. lo and behold found one that seems promising with no monthly fees...

however I do have a question...

this one allows the owner to add ppl to the group, now while this could be used maliciously and people could be added and spammed when they did not want to be....

would it be ok to add those who are already in my subscribe o matic group?

If you joined someone subscription group and they switched systems would it bother you if they added you to the new system without asking or would you even notice?

thanks will check them out too

I have the hippo rent system rental boxes and always liked them

edited to add... just peeked at the hippo one

I am trying to find something with no monthly recurring cost (sadly hippo has that)
edited again

although the silver package does look promising and is not all that costly

hmmmmmmmmmm

GAH I hate making decisions LOL

JVA Bot is a ONE TIME L$3000 fee. You run the program on your home PC, and you operate your own mailing lists. The bot can also offer group invites, manage land rentals, and model outfits in your shop.

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY endorse this product over "monthly fee" based services.. where basically you're just paying THEM to run a bot for you.

still reading about the hippo one, I like that it even works with the rent system and vend system (I use the rent system)

I might go with that one, still reading though

and still open to more suggestions

something running on my PC would not work, as I tend to reboot my PC often and forget to turn specific things back on (which is why my models no longer are in the store LOL)

This does have the problem that you have to leave your PC on all the time you want it working, which is a bit awkward..

HippoGROUPS isn't really a bot. It is a database system hosted by HippoTech (hence the recurring charge). It doesn't "auto invite" as it doesn't use one of the coveted LL groups.

Also, Andy is very good at incorporating suggestions in future versions (thanks Andy for adding the ability for a manager to do my work for me).

You know what annoys me? Vendors who appear to have something like Subscribe-o-Matic but, when you click on the scripted prim, it just gives you a link to their standard SL group listing.

OK, back to the helpful replies now...

If you joined someone subscription group and they switched systems would it bother you if they added you to the new system without asking or would you even notice?

This is easy. The people have asked for an update newsletter. How you get it to them is not important. So yes, just copy and paste into a new notecard or whatever to get the new system going.

FWIW ... Subscription Mailbox System
http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=678446

Everything is in game so
1 > No ongoing costs for web space
2 > You will have to touch the server in world to keep the list up to date. When the sim restarts, it will lose any information added since the last time you edited the notecard.

I am gonna go with the hippo one, after reading through it I really like the options it has, and that I can make multiple groups (which is handy)

and the fact that it can also work with the visitor counter, which can auto add ppl to a group, a handy way to track who visits, and who joins out of those who visit hehe

Thanks for the suggestions and please keep them coming, as I am sure this is helpful for others as well

Yosef thanks, that is what I was thinking too, they subscribed, they are not going to care how the info gets to them :)

I will just send them a note letting them know about the switch

I also liked the hippo because the msgs and such can be accessed online as well as in world, and folks can leave the group via the website if they want

That is a big plus with the HippoTech gadgets. They all operate together. I have used the vendors and liked them from a sellers point of view, but as a buyer .... I miss seeing what is in the box and the individual permissions to be able to double check what I am getting.

It really depends on the amount of churn you are getting on your mailout group. If it stays pretty flat with a few changes a week, just get a stand alone one time cost system. If you have people coming and going often, get the web based system for data security.

from the subscribe o matic site

(pertaining to my subscription/group thing of course)

Activity in the last 30 days

* A total of 158 people have joined your group. With 38.9 signups per 100 members, your signup rate is above average.
* 7 members have left your group. With 1.7 unsubscriptions per 100 members, your unsubscription rate is above average.
* Your members have interacted with your kiosks 379 times, which means your activity index is above average.
* You have sent a total of 7 messages, which is more than the average number of monthly messages.

so yeah I like the idea of a web based system and just got the hippo system

bit of setting up, but I really like how it is all controlled via the web, very handy

Be careful with auto-adding. I would not suggest using that feature unless you have an ongoing relationship with people such as tenants, or are adding people to a group that you do not intend to send messages to. There is some debate as to whether or not that is spam.

I think you are fine with auto-adding anyone from the old system to the new. I would suggest you send out a note from the old system telling people you are changing and will be auto-adding them to the new system. Then send a note from the new system after the change-over is complete.

As a buyer, my primary concern is being able to TP to your store and easily get access to old messages and attachments if they did not get delivered for some reason (I'm in 'busy' mode, I accidently clicked thru it too quickly, or SL is just borked).

the auto adding with the visitor counter would not be used to send any msgs, that would merely be a way to keep track of visitors without having to keep copying it to a notecard or something like that

As for the adding people manually I would only do that with those already subscribed to the current subscribe o matic group I have now

I would NEVER send out any unsolicited notices or messages (as it is I will also be removing the greeter and current visitor counter at the store, as I dislike the chatter they have)

just having some problems with the visitor counter from hippo and can not join their in world SL group even though the notecard says it is open enrollment, it isn't

:(

yep and hippo offers that, which is very handy

GRR at the visitor thing though, not working

yep planned to send out notecards letting folks know what is going on

for all intents though, to the comsumer it will seem as though nothing changed (as I will be keeping the same type of kiosk)
the signup texture will change though heh

I think it changed recently due to some abuse. It used to be open enrollment.

If I remember correctly though, the notices from the two systems do look different to us (the subscribers) which is why I had figured we should get a heads-up.

figures blech

not sure why the visitor thing won't work, followed the instructions perfectly (not like they can be screwed up, simple instructions)

maybe it is the new server rollout thing...

sent out the notice to the existing members and finishing setting up the hippo group system, so I can start migrating them over...

I just want to make sure you have the right plan.

If you get the bronze plan, that is a total of 500 mesages sent to people per month.

1 notice sent to 500 people = 500 messages.

That would mean that the limit is 10 notices sent to that group of 500 people per month. A group of your size probably should go with the silver plan if you want to send more than 10 - 15 notices per month. The nice thing is that unused messages roll over into the next month.

So if you go light and buy the bronze plan, you can get a few more in later months if you do not use all the messages in your quota this month.

thanks cristalle I got the silver plan
sending out my first hippo system group msg now... hopefully I did it right

whew that was a lot of folks to move over

as for the visitor thing

not sure what is wrong, it just doesn't seem to want to communicate with the hud hub thing and the prim that detects people

I tried walking through it and nothing happened

:(

So I tried the communicate test thing, and only one thing would reply (usually the hud hub, only once did the hud respond and at that time the hud hub did not respond)

scripts are on, it is my own land, passwords are the same in the 2 things that require them (did not change password, then tried changing it, and either way it just doesn't seem to want to work)
