Market saturation: What would most likely sell today?

Now that everyone seeks to make easy money on Second Life, most once highly demanded items won't sell whack anymore. You just have to think about custom avatars, which are flooding the sim's stores, or clothing, or actually anything that has to do with your avatar...

So I was wondering if there was anything, anything at all, that has a high demand on SL but that's still hard to find?

a clean coded and stable sl would be great

1) High quality animations for furniture makers. Somebody, somewhere needs to create a system so that items can be sold to content creators but cannot be resold after than with transfer permissions. There must be a way....


2) Genitals that can be "heard" only by someone on a list configured via notecard. The rest of SL would bless the creator of this product.

If I intend to sell furniture and need to purchase animations to go in them, I would need to find someone willing to sell me animations with both copy and transfer permissions. Selling animations (or anything for that matter) with both copy and transfer permissions is a very dangerous business for the original creator, because if I forget to change the perms of the animation before putting my furniture up for sale I've just given my customer a free unlimited supply of that animation, which could be handed out to friends or even sold by the unscrupulous. Or I could turn out to be a thief myself, buying full-perms animations and selling them myself at a discount. So very very few animators go into that type of "wholesale" business.

If there was a way to sell an animation with copy+transfer perms and absolutely guarantee that the perms would be limited for the next customer down the line (instead of relying 100% on the furniture maker to do the right thing) this problem would go away.

In the meantime, though, there is a huge market for full-perms animations for someone with some guts and/or a clever idea to handle the issue.

Something with an artificial need which is filled by multiple products with superficial differences.


RL Examples - Beanie Babies. Baseball Cards. Swatch Watches.

Think of something that's in the real world that isn't really done well in SL. Maybe a certain type of clothing, a gadget, a vehicle, an activity. You can try going the other way and think of something weird and fantastic that can only be done in SL. You could also just try to improve upon products you already use. Try filling the needs of a niche group like Goreans, RPers, Nekos, Furries, Combat people, Fashionistas. Try making something for the guys... they're hurtin' for good products.

Add #3 on the vein of 2!

3) Tummy talkers that only talk to the Mommy, those on a list and those that wish to feel Mommies tummy. I personally, and sorry to any of my SL Family that may read this, find the act of SL Pregnancy and child birth creepy. My wife and I have chooses to remain sterile, and would appreciate if mothers would keep there unborn prims quiet. I for one do not need to know that prim is putting pressure on his/her Mommies bladder going to cause her to have an accident. TMI!!!

I will second this! Bits & Bobs is great, but come on! Can't we get more options.

And accompanying maternity clothes to use with it, of course.

Well, I never thought I would even dare sell buildings, but I just put a couple on the market, and I think they are somewhat "niche" (I'll leave it to the astute to dig through my profile). I have also been selling several products which, quite honestly, I was surprised there was nothing on the market yet. I guess once you find a need, try to fulfill it. If you don't believe there is a need, try to convince people that there is one. Basic marketing. Sometimes, however, you find out there truly is not a need and you chalk it up and try again.

Sprts.. clean well made games that teams and groups can enjoy and build on... like Surfing.

I don't think anybody makes this and I agree, it'd sure be nice.

Most well-scripted parts have a volume option for mute/whisper/chat/shout. It would be great if they also include IM so just the people playing saw the messages.

Yeah, entertainment, fun and socializing are what people like.

Well I would sure not object to a system like that, but again it does need trust. Still need copy-transfer to put in the furniture, and the animator must trust me giving them a percentage. It would save me as a furniture maker a lot of money, since now I pay 1000 linden per animation at B&B. Still not too expensive if I sell enough items of course, so I am not complaining, but partnership would not be too bad for me.

On the other hand, there are not that many good furniture animations after all. Most sits are quite static. So there definately is a market for animated sitting posistions for chairs, couches, sofa's, dinner chairs. Gimme a yell if they are done

Surprisingly enough I have done quite well, in terms of volume, from my portal idea.

I have a modest plot in the Caledon group of Sims and what I sell there is information on other virtual worlds. Currently I have around 25 odd note card tips for World of Warcraft in terms of game strategy, quest information, and gold earning.

With the exception of a master gold guide which I have priced at $L1, 000, all the rest of my tips are priced at between $L10 to $L50 Lindens. I regularly sell one or two tips every day. The tips are mainly Alliance biased and are based on the viewpoint of a typical SL user travelling within Azeroth.

Here is a free example of the sort of thing I sell for maybe $L10

Unlike Second Life, there is no point-to-point teleporting within Azeroth. It takes TIME to travel between points of interest, in some cases as long as 15 to 20 minutes. The only class of avatar that has some limited additional quick travel privileges are Mages (who can open Portals) and Druids (who have a racial ability to teleport to Moonglade). Everybody else is limited via one hearthstone to one Inn in one location only. (A hearthstone equals one free teleport)

Here is a tip that will enable all classes to travel far more quickly between points of interest, regardless of your levels.

Ask a Mage for a portal to Shatrath City in the Outlands. He or she may charge for such a service. I paid 5 gold for my portal.

Once there make one of the two main Inns your home via your hearthstone. Then take a walk onto the terrace of light in the city centre. There you will find a free portal to all Horde and Alliance main capital cities. Use these free portal gateways to travel to the nearest city to where you wish to travel. (e.g. Darnassus for Felwood or Stormwind for Duskwood) By all means make sure you log off at the nearest Inn to your region to enhance double experience points but DO NOT set this Inn as your home.

When you need to travel simply hearthstone back to Outlands and use the portals to locate.

Don’t travel outside the city until you are at least level 55 as the mobs there are at a level that will equal instant death

This tip lasts the entire game and will sharply cut travel time between both regions and continents
