Kidd shakes his head sadly, wondering how to explain the necessity of certain body parts without sounding crude.

LOL Well you gotta assume she knows that much, and that she'd use the sliders and acquire the proper errrrr attachments.......that, or make an alt?

With one notable exception, the conduct of gay men is no different than the conduct of straight men. Anything else you may have heard or believe is mere stereotyping.

No, it's not. It's a lifetime bank account drain, one you don't need in SL. :p

You constantly tell us on this forum how intelligent you are (I think once you actually quoted your IQ score but I cant be bothered to look it up frankly) and yet you come here and ask this?
" Most of my friends are gay men and are definitely different from straight plonkers."
You say you have many gay friends.no,infact you say "most are"..why not pose this to them? Surely having so many gay friends gives you the insight youre looking for? Or are you just struggling to find a topic to post today?
If I had a question such as tis..and a veritable pool of people who I could ask..would I post it on a Second Life web forum? No..I`d ask those I know, and who knew me..and who I would trust to understand my curiosity on this.

So you would ask a bunch real life friends if you could be gay in Second Life? Really? I barely bring the subject of SL up even to my closest RL friends and family.

It wouldn't be nearly as fun if Jig stopped being curious about human nature through these forums. Her questions always make me think at least. For this one however I don't have any real input as I am not gay. Although a RL gay friend once told me jokingly that I was a lesbian trapped in a man's body, whatever that means.

Join some groups, hang out in places, chat with people. Observe how people dress. I'm pretty sure gay people don't like being scrutinized as much as we do. Definitely avoid doing surveys.

I guess in SL it might be, but I'd think it wouldn't be as interesting as something that involved more interaction with other people.

Unless you have hundreds of gay men that are your friends you don't have a meaningful cross section of gay men to make generalizations about the behavior of gay men differing from straight men. If you did have hundreds of friends that are gay men you would realize how incorrect your assumptions are. There are plenty of gay men who find it extremely annoying if not downright offensive when people make generalizations about gay men based on stereotypes. Historically, stereotyping behavior of gay men has been the basis for laws targeting them, laws that range from marriage inequality to execution in gulags and concentration camps. If you are curious about the behavior of a very specific cross section of the gay community then say so, but you shouldn't make broad sweeping generalizations that gay men as a whole or as a majority behave in a certain way (other than with regards to sexual orientation) because they are gay.

Here we have the world. However much you may scorn. This is for all to see. I trust gay men here - and I asked in a decent way. I think we shouldn't be hung up on political correctness or else we'll never learn anything. I wanna know so I wanna be a better REAL human. I cant sleep with a gay man but maybe "being a gay man" might help me understand my gay friends better in real.
(I'm gonna be asking more squirmy questions than this in the coming year)

I add that a good friend of mine who is gay has just been diagnosed with mortal and untreatable cancer - I wanna know -KNOW- this person now, before death. I just asked as one real thread to help me

QFT!

Jig - I went exploring with my test alt to experience something of what it is like to be the opposite sex, so I don't see why you shouldn't explore the opposite in sexuality from your rl self. Come to think of it, I seem to remember finding a "Tainted Boys" club somewhere - so make an Alt and get tainted! (Just promise to come back and tell us all about the adventure.)

I can't really help much. My room mate was the straightest gay guy you will ever meet. He was a top too. Only after living with him a long while did some of his little quirks come out. Not being nasty, just personal preference, the fem gays, the "screaming queers" drive me up the wall. That is probably because I am a dyke. :p

Not necessarily. We don't know how Jig goes about selecting her gay friends. Even if she had hundreds of them, if they're all chosen the same way as the previous batch, they may all end up matching the same characteristics.

Just an example, but imagine someone whose gay friends are all found in the fashion industry, and whose straight male friends all come from... ( careful!)... everywhere except the fashion industry.

Would it be so surprising if such a person found her gay friends were outliers from the norm on some characteristics (like, say, fashion sense)?

[ETA: To be clear, it's by no means anyone's fault that they never met all the gay Teamsters and accountants and spies and pharmaceutical executives. But it's not difficult to imagine a stereotype emerging--especially given historical differences in professions' acceptance of the openly gay.]
