Sorry you lost stuff, Lias, but don't tell me you've been in SL for 3 years and are just now learning that they almost never rollback mainland sims..

Yes I find this surprising. I have chat logs from all my dealings with LL in the Parature system, I didn't think they could remove them. Perhaps I should store them elsewhere.

Logs are stored locally, surely?

Someone obviously sent a Linden one of those squirting girl parts which took their money!

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

That takes work on your part.

You can get recent logs via the support portal thing. Dunno how far back they go but that's definitely a server-side thing.

The support person in question has always gone above-and-beyond when I've dealt with him.

Nope, Concierge Services uses this Java based web chat thingy that opens in a web browser. So all the chat is stored in the Support Portal.

I never had LL delete so many no copy items from the server before. This was sim-wide destruction as a direct result of their actions. I din't even get the message items were being returned to me. A dancer in one of the clubs told me what happened

[18:59] Devilinhiding Devin: hi Lias..there is a lot of items missing in the lounge... the 2 time clocks, the money booth, the sexy dance rings, the popper, the avalanche..just the things i noticed for sure..there could be more gone

I called the twelth and was told it was too late to do a rollback. And the would not restore any of the no-copy items they deleted right off the server. The two times clocks cost $5,000L each, the contest boards and Host Podiums were 3.500L each (times 4) and the couple dance anywhere ball cost over $7,000L. Not to mention the moved parts of builds and lost parts of floors.

I know there was a landmark court case in Asia where a guy won money from his service providers because the judge deemed they did not do enough to protect his deleted content.

Why Linden Lab feels they can delete our content and not replace it is something I do not understand. Is it arrogance or do they really have a legal leg to stand on?

I expect they figure they will worry about it when someone takes them to court, until then why worry.

Except for clause 5.3 in the ToS which covers them in the case of lost items.

They can try to recover them, but if they can't (and rollbacks on mainland are not something you will get unless it's right after they reboot the sim and stuff is damaged. Due to the fact mainland is owned by multiple people... so where Lias lost something, rolling back could cost someone else some items.)

Sucks, but they are covered.

So how come a rollback on a private island isn't such a problem, what if someone else on that private island had bought something in the meantime? Basically the Lindens are saying a SIM owner can have a rollback and to hell with his renters???

Assuming that clause in fact covers them, so far the TOS have not done well in courts.

Yes

That is one risk of many in renting from private sim owners, because the sim owner can order the rollback

Two things I can think of:

False or repetitive Live chat usage (spamming)

Or becoming one of the gold medal winners for the most abusive, arrogant and cursing user.

Somehow, I can't see the use of whips and chains as being a reason for banning, since most support people tend toward being masochistic. Or at least from my experience..

You speak for yourself! Ok you can speak for me 1/2 the time too :)

well I guess they are trying:

Update 2008-07-16 05:40am : We have reverted the ~1000 hosts on 1.23.1 to 1.22.4.

Update 2008-07-15 05:28pm : An issue with names showing up as “(???) (???)” in estate ban lists is showing up on the regions which have been updated to 1.23.1. We tentatively plan to revert those regions back to 1.22 by tomorrow morning, and will probably slip the 1.23 roll-out by another day. We will also be analyzing server crash data from this pilot roll to look for other issues not previously identified, before making a firm decision. – Joshua Linden

Update 2008-07-15 02:22pm : The pilot roll to 1174 regions is complete. However, because of an error Prospero made when starting the roll, there are about 300 regions that will remain down for another 10-20 minutes. For this, he apologizes.

my update to this thread is to say that i had a live chat with support staff last night, with JohnN, and he was very pleasant and patient, and i can't imagine why someone would abuse him, or anyone trying to help!

clearly whoever was abusing support staff was in a fowl mood, and took it out on the staff. that sux.

My update to this thread is that my items are still deleted and no one has responded to my ticket to have these items returned. We did find the copyable car that was on display in one of the venues buried below the club. Perhaps the Lindens have buried all of my no-copy items way below the land.

Clearly staff should take the time to truly help and not spend the time covering the corporation's butt with business lies and deletion of Live Help Logs.
