I agree with Yuukie the weekend was dodgy. Lots of failed tps on Saturday and a redmap. One redmap and half a dozen region logouts yesterday. Also a relog for having a 'shaky avatar'! That was a first lol
But I do not report crashes so LL's number is very likely low. Usually though, I can have a couple of hours of no problems.

Wow, I must be really lucky or something. I can spend hours without a single crash. I'll crash occasionally when there's general issues on the grid, but other than that I hardly ever need the helmet. (Nicholaz client btw). Wonder how many people actually report crashes? That could seriously skew the numbers.

I rarely crash and my computer is 5 years old now. I do freeze up for a while sometimes and waiting a minute or so sorts it out, but my crashes usually occur when the sim has a hiccup as others crash at the same time.
I wonder if a lot of people have the settings up higher than their computer can really cope with?

I'd say that in my case client side crashing happens about 1/8 of the time. Sometimes, it's one of the 'known issue' crashes, which I did something that has a high rate of crashing. Other times, it's a complete mystery.
There are also days I can stay on for hours, but not since this last update. I shouldn't have updated it... it and my computer don't get along.

Of all of the numbers that you'd expect a firm to "define" in their favor, this would probably be one. I'm pretty sure that they aren't counting crash reports (which would understate the frequency) but rather sessions that didn't end with a proper handshake between client and server. From: someone But I do not report crashes so LL's number is very likely low.

I wonder if a lot of people have the settings up higher than their computer can really cope with? I've not changed my settings from when I ran SL on XP, I've upgraded my CPU, HDD, Mobo, and RAM (Windows Experience Index = 5.9), and have all the latest drivers. So, I've come to the conclusion that it must be a Vista compatibility issue - I am crashing all the time now. On XP, with much lower spec, a crash was very rare for me. For those who spend a lot of time in SL, I'd advise anyone considering moving to Vista to hold off until these issues are fixed.

I crash a lot more than 25% of the time, no matter WHICH client or OS I am using! Happens to me both on Mac and on Windows, and with the standard cleint, Releade Candidate, or Nicholaz version. I've also seem it happen far too often to friends that I am trying to RP with, on various systems, graphics cards, and OS versions.
People who build a lot, and who are constantly moving a camera around to look at a build from various angles are very prone to crashing, even if they are alone in a new class 5 sim.

Despite the instability of the Mac client, I rarely crash. I do however have a 4gb of RAM so memory leaks don't affect me much (or at least for a lot longer than I tend to be online for any given session).
But then, I don't often leave my own land, and when I do it's to go to one of a few places I either expect to crash (due to there sometimes being more avatars than I can usual cope with), or I'm exploring, and stumble in an RP sim. Woefully many of them have incredibly laggy weapons in use, accompanied by people wearing incredibly laggy shields. With me just wanting to peer about at the buildings and scenery, and maybe force lightning someone's face off if they insist on shooting at me.
My own home is a delightful little haven where I use very few textures to maximum effect with lots of content properly hidden by walls (so they don't get rendered). Unfortunately someone is using some laggy scripts or physics which I'll now have to track down, such is mainland =(
Last time I crashed was yesterday, crossing over into a sim which had ban-lines. You know how parcels on the edge of the sim you're going into don't show ban-lines? Yeah, that one. Joy.

nick's viewer seems to crash a little differently than the stock viewer. My usual crash with the stock viewer begins with a jittery flutter in the audio, rapidly followed by a freeze of the UI. After about twenty seconds, I'm dropped back to the Windows desktop. Nick's viewer may or may not exhibit the fluttery audio. The interface freezes, but you aren't really sure you've crashed until you look a the Windows taskbar, where a minimized "You have crashed" window has opened. Clicking OK on that closes the SL window. It's a little harder with Nick's viewer to be sure you've crashed.
