What should I look for in an army?

I'm currently exploring an army to join to fight against other armies and such, like in FPS gaming. I know there are many armies that are griefers, that are serious, and that are RPing. But, overall, what should I look for in an army?

Also it's going to be hard to pick an army once I've found all the good ones. So can someone help me out?

Wow, Menace. Everything I know about armies has come from a SL tabloid. Check out The Second Life Herald and go through some archives. They cover these things often. If anything they will show you through the articles who you don't want to join. :p

Good weapons, not that old eastern European junk you can pick up in north African countries, some of those nukes are just soooo unstable.

I once was in a squad that used to attack Gorean sims (yonks ago folks) and I got bollocked for wearing cute blingy Doc Martens on a night exercise and we all got hammered. So I suggest you don't let the girl soldiers wear bling or the boy soldiers for that matter - you never know these days.
Also don't use bows and arrows. I knocked out several gor men who insisted on fighting fairly with bows and arrows and I preferred my Uzi.
Also, make certain your soldiers are Chaste and Pure. I was having - err - a "good time" with a bloke who was really into garrison duty (how exciting, yawn) and he missed his "watch" and got dropped. Then he got all shirty with me for doing that to him.
Armies are fun but nowadays there are so many "rools" in sl I am not sure it is viable anymore. You are bound to offend someone.
Anyway, they are my "rules of engagement": No bling, Use heavy artillery, no bonking among the troops.

I'm a pacifist as far as SL goes, but a good army is one that has good combat capability - like it can defend ruthlessly or it can conquer, defeat and subdue an enemy. No my kind of thing, though.

I repeat: No bling, use heavy artllery, no bonking among the troops - oh yeah! - and no sleeping with the enemy! That was my mistake.

The best armies exist in platforms other than SL.

Why not invade a subdivision sim (kinda like a suburbia), take it over and declare a republic? It would be kinda like the Ultimate Griefing. Sorry, just kinda amused me to think of grim-faced avatars establishing a whole new set of rools.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Soldiers. Lots and lots of young, handsome, virile soldiers. With back pay and a liberty pass in their pockets.

Hello Soldier :) Lindal, there used to be a garrision in Mimas where they marched up and down for hours and I was chased by teh sergeant who actually said in IM "Chippewa, your kind makes me sick. I'm going to keep my eye on you" and all because I was hanging out under the street lamp.
And that is exactly the problem - all these lusty young men with time on their hands. Conscription, I say! Damn it!
Nothing wrong with cold showers and bully beef to carve them into shape. Hard lusting shape, sweaty, glistening shape ....
Stop it, Jig, you'll get banned!

I'll tell you honestly I DID take pics and now I can't remember the names of some of these guys. I'll look some up for you. So I try and be inventive in my naming of my pics now. I know I sound a bit of a tramp but I honestly can't resist a soldier ... or a sailor ... or a pilot ... or ...
Anyway I am on the straight and narrow now. Have settled down. Honest, Officer.

My weapons are oiled and loaded, and I'm zeroed in on their wallets, Cap'n. Permission to open fire?

Lindal you and I are set to make a fortune when this army finally gets formed and General BedBug takes control. All those newbie soldier boys, wet behind the ears. Yum! Ka-ching!
This could be just like the old days - it's comforting to know certain services may be needed to help our boys fight the Gor, the Fluffs, the Dark Forces and any other miscreant regime that noses around sl.

A good College Plan.

Decent Pay. Medical Benefits.

Ideally an Army that isn't actually fighting anyone right now.

Someplace in North-East Europe like Norway would probably work - they never fight anyone, so its less likely you will be killed.

If you need somewhere closer to home ..

Maybe an army with a good salesman like a CSI: New York detective.
