Hi everyone,

I'm developing a new product on which I would love to have your opinions on.
It will be quite unique in the way that it will be able to show dynamic information (on a kind of LCD screen).. If you combine that with the fact that it is connected to the web almost everything in & out world becomes possible.

Exciting no? :)

With all those possibilities I would like to now what you really want? (and I can already say that the best tips will receive the product for free (which will retail at more then 1000Lindens))

The essence is that we bring the information to your own house and that you don't need to go to 20 different places to get all the information.

To give you some clues in to which direction your brainstorm can go:
- Facebook connectivity: Get the status updates of your friends in a structured way on the screen
--- Same thing can be done with Twitter and others

- Put your own text on it, to show it to others
- Let automatically rotate the best jokes/quotes of the day
- Show top 10 places you must have visited in that week (sceneries, buildings, romantic places), with one click teleportation
--- Same thing can be done with other stuff like: free clothing, events, opportunities,...
- Log your visitors and show personalized messages
- Connect your entertainment system to those of your friends & share information
....

Thank you for your cooperation, and I hope you use all your creativity to not only get the features you want, but also get them for free :) (if you were the fist in this thread with the idea of course)

No. Not really. Most of the things you describe are of little interest to me and my SL. Good luck, though.

Okay, don't know if I responded to the poorly written/worded version of this or not, but...

Right. Umm... let me see if I got this straight, you want to show dynamic information on a prim? Why do I get the feeling this will require a third party site, one that requires passwords to such accounts as Facebook and Twitter, in order to "update" the prim? Cause while I'm not a scripter, that is the only way that this would work, without being self-defeating.

Besides, I have those twenty things and a whole lot more in one place already. It's called an actual web browser, with plugins that do the job in a much better fashion.

I've no desire for any Facebook/Twitter/MySpace/whatever crap in SL.
I do not need to get the latest/best jokes/quotes while in SL.
I already have plenty of ways to see more than just the last 10 places I visited and to return with a single click
I don't need to log visitors
I have no desire to share my entertainment system with others.

Truthfully, as far as an entertainment system, I only need music at my house. The entirety of SL is the rest of my entertainment system.

It seems the same, but in the other thread they are speaking about a web browser I guess (which will always be better in another application so I understand it isn't useful).

But here, it sorts data & manages it in a nice way + you have both inside and outside second life world possibilities..

Again, the initial propositions didn't seem so good, so in what other features could you be interested in seen the technical possibilities of the product..

Thanks

There really is nothing "out of world" that I want to do in SL, especially at an extra cost. I can think of better things to spend 1000L on. If I want to do those things, I log off or tab out of SL. I prefer SL to be a seperate existance.

Rather a coincidence that two days in a row a similar question, though this one is worded much better.

As I put on the other thread, the likes of facebook, twitter etc I can't see a need in SL. Being a social place the things that go down well are things you can do with other people. Youtube is in SL, that is good because you can sit and watch the videos with friends. Single person things I would just minimise my SL browser and do in another window a lot easier.

@Chokolate: I think you are right, maybe the focussed should be more in the collaborative aspect.. I'll try to come up with some ideas :).

Thanks for this new direction.

I belong to Facebook as well as Second Life.

I can't imagine ever wanting to bring Facebook into SL, or to bring SL into Facebook.

Having Facebook on a screen in Second Life is a bit like a bus company having a virtual bus station in SL where I can walk round to find timetables on the wall - when it would be much easier to just use a bus times website!

If I want to use SL and Facebook at the same time, I can easily open them both at the same in small windows and swap between them as needed.

The idea was be to bring small pieces of different sites to one location, but not to give a full alternative.
In that aspect you would have like the essence of different tools. And it would be really easy to access..

There is already a way of linking a webpage onto a prim as a texture, so when you click it the page shows - but it's not browsable - just a single page - I tried it once to see if it worked.

Actually, That is not what I wan't to do.
I want to reorganise the data so that it can be easily read&managed in SL + the board is not only going to not be focussed on the outside world but also on the Second life world.

Could you please give me some suggestions of features that you would love?
Thanks

Free sports TV and a link to the local pizza and beer stores.

Pep (A thought controlled remote control device would be nice too; pressing the buttons can get so tiring.)

All the features you've proposed may be good for something else, but an entertainment center it isn't, in my opinion. Nor would I spend as little as 10 L$ to buy the product you're describing, even if it did have the appropriate name.

As regards an entertainment center, this is what I would want in an SL entertainment center:

Music. Give me access to every single stream currently shown online in the Shoutcast website, sorted by categories so I can choose what I want to hear and find a station playing it.

Video. I want to see youtube videos. If you want the adult market perhaps you could also include youporn videos. Legal (with a lot of emphasis on LEGAL) movie rentals or even purchases that can be viewed in SL would be an extremely novel thing to include in an entertainment system.

In short, make an entertainment system be entertaining, don't package up a web browser and call it an entertainment center.

Right now my perfect "entertainment system" would be a quick trip the MoMA or the Tate Gallery. Followed by a concert at teh Albert Hall or maybe going to a rave with DeadMau5.
