People will go if they like 50 cents?
Others will find music more to their liking? What's your point? |

Personally I think 50 cent are a load of rubbish but having a name like that performing is good for SL and those who are fans will love it.

I'm not a big rapp fan but...

It will probably be great PR for SL to have a performer like that. Most of the regions I visit seem to have either hip-hop or some variation of rapp playing.....drives me nuts, but it must be what the majority like. *shrugs* As for the live performers.....I've heard some pretty good ones and I've heard some horrible ones who obviously use SL for their 15 minutes of fame....however deserving they may or may not be. Then again...the sound quality we're getting via the streams may not be doing these people justice...so I hate to pass judgement. To each his/her own....as long as everyone's having fun....who cares.

Pontiac sim makes me think of the Silverdome so 50cents is perfectly fitting.

Just answering this question alone "are live preformances in SL loosing talent? " Cause not all live performers here are "famous" in RL as 50cent.
Ive been to a few places that has live performers and 95% of the people i saw were raved about befor they took mic, but I ended up just toning the volume down quite some notches and turning my focus to a chat with a friend. They weren`t *terrible* but just not great. As in RL, some musicians here think theyre some jewel for being a musician and usually rave about *themselves*...i just have not run into any singer here who appeals to me but that could be due to my RL environment with a mixture of my personal taste. (Was in the christian music industry for quite some years before moving back to Hawaii and was around many talented people). Im not saying the performers in SL were not talented, they can play better than I can, but their voice was hm, not for me. I *tried* to do some good and get Jay Brannan hooked up here and start playing but once he got on his laptop could not handle. If you people want to see some real all around talent here, send this dude some donations for a stable desktop Youtube.com/JayBrannan_____________________

So 50 Cent is not your kind of performer. Most of the live musicians here are obviously not big for a reason. This isn't to say that they are not talented, but there is often a noticeable difference between what you hear in the media and what you hear here. Less talent is apparently a matter of taste.

Not sure i understand the question ompletely..... But as an avid music hopper I can't help but throw my two pies worth in. There is plenty of real live musician talent to be heard, it's not that hard to find either. Im a huge fan of the singer-songwriter variety of musician, but will check pretty much everything out apart from hard rock and hip hop, and tend to spend at least a couple of hours every evening listening to some great music. Sure, there are some not-so-great musicians around, but you don't have to stay and listen.
As for the Pontiac...... I avoid it like the plague... been there twice for a music gig..... it's lag helllllll |

i think sl is the wrong place for a musician to spend their efforts.
imo, when it comes to bands myspace is the clear leader. _____________________

Most of the live music I've heard in SL has been of a pretty good amateur/semi-pro standard. The kind of musicians you'd expect to hear in your local pub or club. Nothing to get excited about, and you can see why they are not stars, but can be very pleasant for an hour or two. And a lot more talented than I will ever be.
As for 50 cent, a performer of that popularity can only raise SL's profile, personally I'd rather listen to the sound of my own leg being sawn off, but at least he or his management have the imagination to use this new platform for promoting him. |

Just like open mic in real life, you will find a healthy mix of quality and disaster--I guess it's all subjective though.
I don't think musical talent is dropping--perhaps more people are realizing how easy it is to stream their music, and hence we get a few more talented musicians, and a few more 'I think I cans.' *shrugs* _____________________

Quantity vs Quality. Exactly. As the user base grows, it will be a factor in all creative endeavors in Second Life.
