From: Jack Belvedere My unsolicited review:
--Terrible lag. Horrible. Makes Second Life's worst lag days look great.
--No real option for user created content.
--Unappealing textures and scenes.
--To add to the charm, after logging in, I found out that your real life name and location is completely disclosed on your profile in-game until you luckily happen to find the place to see it and change it.
--Most importantly, there was no hockey. Well, they seem to be working to address the user created content issue. There is something called "Vivaty Studio" that interfaces content created in third party 3D applications like Maya, 3DS Max, and Blender to Vivaty. There is a gallery showing some content...and I note that one of the very first things that someone created is a penis object. http://www.mediamachines.com/browse.phpThey also say in their FAQs that soon you'll be able to "buy things created for Vivaty with real money, but the service itself is free." That doesn't say whether there will be a microcurrency, or whether you will buy things from the creators, or only "appproved content" made available through the service. I agree with Brenda: I think this *sort* of thing is what LL would like SL to become. That sucks.

From: spinster Voom I think it is free, but you have to join twitface first. You can access it from any of those social sites, and I think you can download it to use by itself.

I know this is crazy and will never happen, but I wish that LL would talk to us about this sort of thing.
I have this fantasy (and yes I know it's a fantasy): in it, LL management has a big meeting scheduled with all its employees, and just before the meeting two guys are talking and one mentions the forums in passing. The other says, "What forums?" and when he finds out, he goes off and starts reading.
His jaw drops, his eyes pop out of his head, and he goes the meeting saying, "Do you know what our users think we're up to?"

From: Scylla Rhiadra Hmm.
I don't see where it says "Experiment with ball gags and chains, while exploring new modes of sexual intercourse with your friends!"
I don't think SL has anything to worry about. Friend request sent.

From: Scylla Rhiadra Is it free? Maybe I should try it. Maybe I'll meet the man of my dreams and we can . . . cuddle. You don't want to meet him on a free site. That's like the difference between eHarmony and Craigslist.

Well, the browser-based type of VR will probably go into the cloud and lose their lag that way, maybe. Do you think the behind-the-firewall, SL-in-boxes could go to rendering in the cloud, too, since it's purchased as a wad of set content? Is that part of what it's all about?

Right now, one could have rendering for underpowered PCs done by proxies in the cloud. That would help typical corporate users who typically don't run games-capable hardware. We'd still be stuck with sim lag though.

that ... thing has about as much of a chance to be/become "the future of SL" as a refurbished ford model T has a chance to be/become "the future of the ferrarri F40".
