From: Oryx Tempel This has been said by MANY MANY island owners. One person I know had 15 or 16 islands, and sold all but one. I don't know what happened to the renters but I think most of them got evicted by the new owners.
I feel much more secure owning on the mainland, than when I rented. No one except Linden Lab can kick me out, and that's extremely unlikely. Oddly enough, I sold about 15 sims a few months ago. It was WAY too much to manage, and I was just about to get married to a really wonderful lady, so I figured that I would prefer to spend my honeymoon with her than chasing rent in SL, get a real job and move forward with our real lives. All of my renters were fully understanding (and congratulating), and I gave them all a month's warning (the rent period), and refunded every L paid in advance of one month. I absolutely do not regret selling off those sims and spending time with my real life wife - it was the most wonderful experience of my life. I still maintain one sim as well (what a coincidence!) and supported my real life wife's business on that sim as best I could, and would (obviously) never ever kick her out.

From: Sunni Jewell A true gentleman! Thanks Sunni. I always tried to be fair with renters, even if it was at cost. Renting is a two way thing of course, some renters will give you zero notice of their departure and will band together with other renters and leave at the same time - in one recent case of this the two renters involved were upset because they wanted to expand their lots from 2000 and 3000 sq m to 16 000 sq m each, and were adamant that the other renters should just be pushed off the sim or pushed into a huddle in one of the corners, which was not acceptable to me. So they left and I filled up the space they left behind with *returning* renters within a few days, so no real loss there.

Maybe if we could get everyone in SL to read the thread it wouldn't come up as often. OR, maybe if LL fixed it so it was clear Renting from an Estate is just that, Renting, and not Owning, people wouldn't be so confused. I wonder which is easier, or which will happen first... Just like to add that most Estate Owners *do* have scruples, and the proportion of scammers to non-scammers is very small. Rent from some established, someone who's references you can check, and probably someone who doesn't go around saying "Omg Dude, rent mah land, it's wikkid kewl!". Just a thought
