Last night i logged onto second life and found over a third of my folders empty (some of them containing items i had created myself). My lindens are still there but I never had that much to steal in the first place. Is this a glitch in the system or should I just give up hope of ever getting those items back? Who would do such a thing it's not like any of what i owned was worth much. I've got to go clean up the empty folders. If anyone has some advice, please send it my way. I could use it.

Try clearing your cache.

Try resetting filters. I'm not inworld right now but I think it is in the File menu of the inventory window. If that doesn't work try going into Edit... preferences and find Clear Cache. Press that and then relog. When you come back let your inventory fully re-load (it will take a while) before you do anything.
Good luck. |

So sorry.
I hope this is a glitch and that a clear-cache and relog will resolve it. I've had things reappear after a day or so. I would think that if someone took things, your linden stash would be their first if not only target. So it sounds more like a glitch of some sort. Try and stay calm about it and wait. Hey Dena . don't panic quite yet. SL can do weird things to your inventory and give you the impression that you've lost a portion of your inventory. A simple relog and clearing of you cache can often fix the problem but here is a link with inventory loss recovery steps you can try. It's very detailed and a really useful document. If all of that fails, you can file a support ticket and request your inventory be reset. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Inventory_Page_The_Inventory_Recovery_Steps

Wow...thank you for the help. I feel a mix of relief and sick to my stomach at the same time. I did panic and had already started cleaning up some of the the empty folders after posting that message. Blame it on being impatient. Wish I had waited because now I can't recover my projects I had been working on. Oh well, maybe next time around they'll look even better. I've only been on Second life a little over 40 days and at least two of those weeks i was sick or didn't have any internet so i'm still figuring things out.

It's okay and it is normal to panic if one suddenly is confronted by missing things without explanation.
Are the folders still in the trash? You can restore them, if so. I don't know whether the items will come back if the folders are gone. I would think they would but I don't know. _____________________

If you are a premium member then also file a ticket or click on 'live help' to see if the staff can help you. Inventory loss is one of the few things basic members can file a ticket for. |

Inventory loss is one of the few things basic members can file a ticket for. Ahhh. I didn't know this either! Loss of inventory seems to happen to me on a pretty regular basis. Clearing my cache usually fixes it; I think only once has it ever taken more than a day or so to fix. _____________________

Basic members can file a support ticket for everything When did this change? It has always been a limited amount of tickets they could do. It still has this on the support page. When you're logged in as a Basic account holder or Guest, you should only use the Special Questions - Basic account or Guest Login ticket type. Any other support ticket submitted by a Basic account or Guest login will be ignored, except for Knowledge Base suggestions made through the Feedback ticket type (tickets of this type should be actual suggestions for improvements to the Knowledge Base). |

There is even a special portal if you are an owner of a private sim with a basic account and need the sim restarted (this being something a basic account can not normally request). Just follow the instructions on the support ticket system and everybody will get an answer. Again: Basic members can file a support ticket for everything |

Just follow the instructions on the support ticket system and everybody will get an answer. Again: Basic members can file a support ticket for everything from the support kb: Some issues are best resolved by submitting a ticket to our support staff, but we don't currently offer full support ticket access to Basic account holders or Guests (visitors who don't yet have Second Life® accounts). We're sorry; there are just too many of you for us to handle in a way that would make you happy. It's something we're working on. Basic account holders and Guests can, however, use special options in the Submit a Ticket area to reach our support staff for certain common questions or problems. Be sure to use the Special Questions - Basic Account or Guest Login ticket type from the dropdown list when entering the information requested. _____________________

Again: Basic members can file a support ticket for everything Ok I just logged in with my alt that is basic. Yes, all the ticket types are available... but since the instructions say "use the Special Questions - Basic account or Guest Login ticket type. Any other support ticket submitted by a Basic account or Guest login will be ignored" Why do you keep repeating this??? Why would you want to encourage a new person to open a ticket that is going to be ignored? |

I always take the UUID number of my no-copy items and save the info on my desktop. Also making a box and putting all of your copyables in there - then placing that box somewhere in-world is always a good idea.

I'm either very impressed, or terribly frightened. ![]() _____________________

Why do you keep repeating this??? Why would you want to encourage a new person to open a ticket that is going to be ignored? Because all my basic account support tickets have been answered the last years. I must be a special basic account holder then? |

Also making a box and putting all of your copyables in there - then placing that box somewhere in-world is always a good idea. Its getting a bit crazy if you write down all UUIDs of all your no-copy items and there is absolute no prove that you can get them back again if the server doesn't work right. I keep this simple. I dont buy any no-copy items at all. If I want to save my own work, my creations, I use the XML file export to save all my work using Meerkat viewer. Greenlife does have this function in the latest version too. |

But the UUID of your no-copy objects changes each time you rez them.... ? why? The asset cluster is treated as WORM storage, assets in there are immutable. Rezzed objects can change between the time they are rezzed and sent back to inventory, so a new asset is created. |
