Logins are failing also, it seems LL is incapable of keeping things running for more than a few hours at a time.

You know I hardly ever see anyone praise SL for doing as well as they do (including me) considering the bandwidth and database cost to run a game of this magnatude. And for a huge majority of players it's free

Cunundrum, I'd praise them (and I have praised them) if it was running for more than a day before the asset/transaction system goes all 'splodey. Heck, I'd praise them like crazy if they'd go ahead and take it offline, fix the issue in a more permanent manner, rather than using duct-tape to fix the tubes

And for a huge majority of players it's free ![]() I'm generally full of praise for the towering socio-technical achievement that is SL. Lately, however, I've had a gutful of writing notecards to a variety of store owners giving details of stale transactions I've had the misfortune to be involved with. SL gets plenty of my hard-earned, one way or another. I'm going to permit myself to be not a little cross about this. _____________________

I'm not buying anything! No way. I'm gonna hide all my lindens in the crash proof crate and crawl in with them til this is all over. Ok, maybe I'll come out and do a serious revamp of the inventory....or maybe build if the grid permits...but the $L are staying in the crate!

I've played a couple other games, there.com and redlightcenter and they were equally as bad when it came to problems with no where near the features.

Cunundrum... I would praise them if this issue was not a daily occurrence going on 2 weeks now. There are MANY issues they need to resolve, however I firmly believe this has to be the worst issue they have at the moment.
This is killing businesses all over SL. People will not spend their Lindens if they are: A: paying for merchandise/service and not receiving it B: paying for merchandise/service and not receiving it AND having their Lindens takien out of their accounts... and not receiving refunds from business owners. B seems to happen more often then not. Unfortunately, there are a lot more business owners out there adopting the policy that "buyer beware, not responsible for SL asset server issues" and people are getting screwed. If LL is responsible for the assest servers, and they are, then they should be covering the losses that so many members are seeing. It's plain ridiculous. Not to mention, extremely disappointing in the customer service area. |

Again when I'm buying stuff! Are they following me around then yanking the plug the second I fork out money? Okay, I'll come clean. I arranged for this to save you from yourself, Max. It's the only way to stop your reckless spending. Honestly, this is for your own good. Someday you'll thank me for this. (I'm not so sure about the other 59,000 residents trying to go shopping, but intervention is called for.) B. _____________________

Maybe merchants should pay a hefty weekly membership fee and then LL can put an island together on some ultimate grade server just for them that will have a much lower failure rate?

If it were truly a "free" game, then actually, the problems wouldn't be annoying.
However, real money transacts all the time over SL. In fact, the SL "economy" is touted as the great feature an accomplishment of SL It is used as a main draw to get people to use SL. When LL makes itself responsible for other people's money being transacted over its platform, it is accepting a very high standard of responsibility. The high level of failure when it comes to protecting other people's money is really the thing that makes SL look like a real Mickey Mouse operation in many respects. If not for that, I could probably just appreciate SL for the technological advance that it is. But when they accept responsibility for other people's money, they take on a completely higher standard of accountability. I don't know whether they truly appreciate that or not. Linden Labs probably isn't going to truly live up to that kind of responsibility until they lose a big lawsuit. Litigation, or the threat thereof, is the only thing to which Linden Labs seems to respond. |

But see...that's the thing here. I have been poised with my Discover card on many occasions, just waiting to swipe it...to become premium. I want land...land of my own for whatever I choose to do with it. It's a big decision to upgrade myself to premium, to weigh the option of whether it would be worth it in the long run. For now to me it's not. I have seen what the premium people say. Mind you I'm not worth much to LL. They have my info, I've made a few $L purchases but as I see it, the premium folks aren't worth much more to them. There is no acknowledgement of the issue at large. It's always just "whoops, sorry folks". I've no doubt they're working on it, but is it worth paying money for when there is so much borkage?
One day...when the new CEO comes on board, and he/she gets rid of the traffic stats, the traffic bots will go away. Then maybe the landbots will be next. Maybe camping will go away too then cause well there will be no need for traffic gaming. Then nobody but the people who are willing to pay to play will be on SL and things will go back to being playable, buyable and less borkable. I think that's then when I'll go premium. _____________________

In fact, the SL "economy" is touted as the great feature an accomplishment of SL It is used as a main draw to get people to use SL. When LL makes itself responsible for other people's money being transacted over its platform, it is accepting a very high standard of responsibility. Exactly! I have a "free" basic account, but I convert a significant amount of US$ to lindens to purchase items, pay rent, etc., as well as having a couple of in world jobs to earn lindens. The in world lindens earned is one thing, however annoying to watch them go up in smoke, but the real world money I put into the game which *then* goes up in smoke is unacceptable. Interestingly, when I was shopping yesterday, I overheard many conversations along these lines and people (those out shopping) were remarking that SL is going to lose a lot of people if this doesn't start clearing up. _____________________

A lot of people have been saying that (including myself) but is anybody actually leaving? I wonder how much it will take for us to say enough is enough. Interestingly, if we could organize a strike and NOBODY went in-world at all for, say, a week, do you think it'd make LL get a move on? ![]() |

I'm pondering sending LL a roll of duct-tape as hint and if this keeps up, I might just do it.

I have always wondered WHERE all those lost lindens go.. they dont just get deleted LL knows where every single $L is... so where do they go and why do we never get them back? They are in the same place that ink pens, socks and keys are. Someday when we pass from this world, we get them all back. _____________________
