Scripted Wings?

I have search Slexchange.. I recently picked up a set of black lacy wings- they look pretty but don't do anything - other than get in my way...

Has anyone seen any that one can control? Maybe wrap them around someone as in an embrace? Thanks for suggestions and shameless plugs are welcome

Starchaser Webb used to sell a 3-position set of wings, that would go wide-spread, mantled or close to the back, on command. He doesn't currently have a store but can be contacted via IM if you are interested. Or send me an IM, and I'll tell him to contact you. I'm on far more often than he is, and he lives on my land.

Keep in mind that the wings won't really "bend", they will be three seperate sets of wings and only one will be visible at a time. (the script will turn on and off on your command)

So you may find that the wings that you currently have that "get in the way" will be less of a nuisance than a 3 position scripted set because you will now have transparent prims all around your body in the "shut off" wing positions.

Clicking on or around your avatar will be more of a pain then it is now.

They don't do the wrap embrace, but have many many other features :- 11 particle displays like trails of butterflys or rainbows, 12 colors (using different textures not just tints, but you can do tints as well), 12 sizes, 5 speed boosts, selectable transparency levels, flap speeds that can be set differently for ground and flying etc.

I love my Material Squirrel demon wings. They come with a HUD, have a few different positions, can flap, are xcite compatible (though I turned it off) and have a nice "embrace" animation for hugs. And very reasonably priced.

The transparent prims are exactly what I was referring to - getting thru doors- oy vey!

As for the shameless plug, - thanks I will come see for curiosity's but what I really want is just the embrace. If anyone can make that would be cool too.

The transparent parts of Starchaser's wings are not clickable unless you are in edit mode.

BTW - All attachments are phantom when worn, so they don't affect going through doors at all, even if wide spread.

there are a few dozen different styles to choose from too, from soft angel wings to leathery demon wings, fairy wings, butterfly wings, etc.

The part that has gotten in my way is trying to open doors that I have to click on
So- as lovely as they are - I don't put them until I leave the house.

That isn't always true; it is perfectly possible to make wings that actually change positions, it's a question of whether the creator(s) know how, or how lazy they are. I have a pair of single-prim wings (that is each wing is 1 prim) and they switch position and texture when I fly or hit a key, disappearing completely into my shoulders when I turn them off.

The Material Squirrel hud also has hide/show buttons. So you can attach them but only bring them out when you want. You can also set them to only show when you're flying, and hide when you land. Or have them automatically "droop" when you land, so that they don't take up as much screen real estate.

what I meant was that when you try to click on something near your avatar, and theres a transparent prim in the way, then it can get frustrating trying to find the right "attack angle" for your mouse...sometimes it requires turning on transparent just to see where you can click to avoid touching the wings.

I think thats what Amaranthim was talking about when trying to walk through doors. Many doors requiere you to click on them to open, but if you're standing in front of the door and your transparent wings are blocking your mouse clicks, then it gets to be a pain.

I've seen three kinds of wings in SL...

1. The most common, a set of purely decorative wings.

2. A beautiful set of realistic bird wings (by Serafina Pinion) that have realistic movement during flight. http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=341630 You can often find Serafina on Help Island Public, wearing her pretty wings.

3. An even more realistic (and more expensive) set of huge wings that actually have their own physics system. You have to keep hitting a key to flap them and fly. Drat it, I can't find a link to them...the creator is a Neko lady who also makes sci-fi type weapons and armor. [EDIT: These wings are so realistic that they even shed feathers!]

There are other animated wings around, but those two are the best I've seen.

Material Squirrel wings are the BEST, period. I have a set of Grande Mihr 4.0 angel wings and they work like a charm. Infinite option setting and dozens of colour choices. I have mine set to disappear when I land, and reappear when I take off.

Personally from a purely aesthetic stand point I have to vote for Fancy Fairy - bloody amazing textures.

there are people in this thread that obviously arent aware of how 'modern wings' function.
its a bit annoying to have them insist there are problems with them when those problems simply do not exist.

Well- last night and again this morning - I tried several wings at Material Squirel- they were beautiful - all of them

The Spread- they Stiffened - they Drooped... Not a one hugged - all I want is wings I can embrace with - I don't even go about winged at all- it is merely a recent fascination. So- custom work is not out of consideration - will entertain that as well.

I asked Starchaser after reading your post, and here's what he said :

"While I could modify the type of wings that I made with my 3-way wings to include another position/shape for a hug, the wings would have alpha sorting issues when wrapping forward in a hug, and would look pretty bad. I tried, because as a Sauk doing a wing hug - enfolding a friend in your wings - is a common gesture of affection. But I couldn't get it to work to my satisfaction.

To make wings that can embrace, you'll want to make full-prim wings that use no aplha textures. It should be possivle to adapt a free hug animation attachment so it can also command a set of prim wings to assume the hugging position when the hug animation is triggered. Unfortunately, I am booked with a woodworking project in RL that is due for delivery in January, and wouldn't be able to start trying to make any new products for SL until at least early February. Sorry.

Let me know if that person does find wings that do a good hug. I'd be willing to purchase a set myself!"

Um .. mebbe grasping at straws here Amaranthim but I kinda remember in the vampire movies they'd sometimes wrap their shroud round their victim. Might there be a vampire creation with perms to modify?
Of course, it would I guess suffer the alpha problems stated.
