New SL home page?

The consolidated portal is pretty cool for average use, I suppose, but it's a pain for posting Events when the view is limited to such a small portion of a day.

Has anyone run across a way to either increase the number of events displayed, or get a window of just the events rather than the new portal?

New Website sucks , lets fix the problems within SL and leave the website alone, everything is out of place, makes it more complex to navigate then the simple system you used to have for years

I'd like it better if I could remove the spam panels from the dashboard.

It is not only the layout...and the panels...

W3C validation says this....

From: someone

Errors found while checking this document as XHTML 1.0 Strict!
Result: 18 Errors, 13 warning(s)

and this and some more on literally every page.... and the website of the company which developed that wonderful diamond of a website has an old html 4 transitional coding with sensational 40 errors and 19 warnings.

Additonal to that we see a deeply depressing layout , packed up to under the ceiling and full of slow flash elements and a massive amount of errors which will burst the site in some browsers.

They could reach the same results in look and feel in a clean and disziplined css based...ah, anyway...too much words for the usual mess they create with anything they start.

Better do to just this: :)

Oh hahahaha
08-26-2009 12:28
and the CSS Validation service found 181 warnings....

:D

This looks not really professional to me...

edit add: did they not mumbled something about "industry standards" in every new sentence about the newest changes....?!

LOL

There would be nothing left, then.

I get six spinning timer icons, which eventually stop spinning but nothing ever loads.

Yes..., these are the flash elements..., well, here they load in around 1-2 minutes...

time enough to create a baby...

edit add: or time enough to find ten good books for good webdesign on amazon...

OK..the Account settings and Lindex are useful to me. I hate the color scheme though. Too sterile.

They created the baby.. they just threw it out with the bath water.

I'm not impressed. While I kind of like the idea, this is poorly executed as usual.

At least they used a white background instead of doing like City of Heroes website with it's black background with white print. I couldn't read that thing on a good day.

But I agree.. this just feels rather cold and repellent, unlike the old color scheme.

Not only sterile. Here in Austria the invitations to funerals are designed like this...

I hate the new menu, it is just extra clicks to do the same thing I could do before. The old one was great because it was very basic and easy to navigate. This one requires me to click to see what is hidden beneath each category. We call these types of menus "mystery meat" because you dont know whats beneath until you click.

The colours are also very depressing compared to the nice blue and white previously. Now it all seems so sterile. *edit* I see other people say the same thing. Great, I'm not alone then.

*gets ready for LL to ignore everyone's complaint and pretend the world loves the new interface*

Now if we could just get them to update the forums.

Oh, get a clue, people. They didn't update these forums because we are scheduled for deletion. Why update something you are about to toss on the scrapheap?

Actually, there is a lot of good in the new layout. It will just take time to get used to, especially for those of us who have been using the old site for a long time.

One thing that the new site highlights, though, is something that's needed fixing for a long time. Logging in.

Every once in a while, the site forgets me, and I have to log in to the main page.

Then I have to log in to the forums.

If I visit the blogs, and want to comment, I have to log in there.

If I want to vote on a JIRA issue, there's another login

If I visit XStreet, I *always* have to log in.

If I want to see my account data, or buy or sell $L, I have to log in.

Some of these login screens want my first name in one box, my last name in another. Others want both names in the same box.

Come ON, LL! Enough is enough, already! ONE login, on the main page, PLEASE! And, while you are at it, allow user names that are DIFFERENT from one's avatar name. That would actually help to increase security, something that these endless logins do NOT do.

Actually.. if you visit it from the new dashboard, you don't have to.

The rest? Oh, yeah

Edit: I stand corrected. Futz off LL.

If they ever did close this forum they would impress me by at least one time doing something they said they would do. However, I don't expect even that to happen.

Oh...LL..your new web page sucks. Too much space wasted on things we should be doing INWORLD. I don't care about my groups when I am not inworld, nor do I care which of my friends are online when I'm not. Big Spaceship has crashed.

It makes me wonder if there will be a Dashboard button on the viewer. Push a button and all this pops up on the in world browser.

Of course they would need to do a little work on the browser, but it would be a nice cookie.

oh cooool! I like it. I like the interface much better - clean, sharp, much more professional, and information is well organized for my basic needs. (Although, I'd still like to access some of these features inworld - oh and while I'm making my wish list for Santa... a better inworld browser window would be nice too!)

Hopefully this cleaner, fresher interface will at some point be extended to the Forums. :)

Z

The other one, original, was much cleaner in my eyes. And worked. This one, new homepage, looks like someone's blog, or SLU. I hate the color scheme. Plus nothing is "rezing". Literally. I have a spinning circle for everything except for the middle section (and the headers).

I hope nothing looking like this is moved into the forums. eww, yucky

I noticed that when I came back to read some of the later comments on this thread, I saw that several more on this topic had sprung up. Now if we could only get posters to look and see if a similar thread had already been started before they post a new one.

Ok. It sucks for me, here is why: Too much iin world account information on the page. My friends list auto loads - and one of the top names is rather unacceptable for others to see, my groups are shown - including the "hidden ones", my Linden$ are shown.

So if anyone uses my computer and clicks the "SL" button on my tool bar, *poof* instant "too much information" given to someone that i am sure i do not want to have that information.

I guess i just have to log out every time now to prevent any accidental slips of my SL privacy.

It also looks very bloggish. I actually looked for a menu to change the skin.

The colors are ugly and dead - or should i say the lack of colors makes the website look ugly and dead - the only real color on the screen are the stupid XstreetSL items for sale.

Black, gray, white, green...wow, don't they get outside opinion??

Is everyone at LL surrounded by sycophants? A lot of people definitely lied to them about the attractiveness of the color (or lack of color) scheme.
