Hmm... I'm trying out different names, but by the time I go back to a previous name to see that one again.. the surname has already gone?! Gotta be quick! lol.

Can anyone think of any variations of Amnesia that may make it sound like a guy?
Amnesio? Amnesius?

Or "Manolo". :D
I don't think 'Blahnik' has come up as an SL surname yet ;)

Also, Sassy.... I'm a he, not a she :)

Sassy's interest suddenly heightens as she recalls the last "Fhang" she met off the forums as a newbie...an hour later he was dancing naked but for a hot pink thong, as many previously had done too...

...I will see you later Amnesia, don't change name until then ;)

(Oh and it's not a game as you will discover)

Actually I believe the surnames rotate in groups. It depends on which server you hit when you sign up. Somewhere in the URL in the address bar there is a number you can manually edit to get to the different name lists. Anyone know any more details about this?

I only have one account, and it's saying I have exceeded the number of accounts any one household can have?

Looks like I'm sticking with Amnesia Fhang :) lmao!

Huh, that's bizarre. Last I heard the limit was 5 per individual e-mail address. Did you maybe get halfway through the process a bunch of times, which might account for the "multiple" accounts? Can you login to SL with any of those, if you did get partially through?

Based on email accounts...have more than one you could use?

I have just tried a different email address (a hotmail one and a blueyonder one) and it still says they "limit the number of accounts per household". Odd!!

Ah ha... from the Knowledge Base:

"Currently, you can create as many additional Basic or Premium accounts as you want to pay for, with the following limitations:

* You can create up to five accounts per household.
* You can create no more than two accounts in a single 24-hour period."

I'd wait for a day or two... you're probably running up against some sort of time delay thingy.

Okay, I think i've found the name I want.... I just tried again and it let me create one!

I'll stick with this one for my main account I think... Can I just use the Amnesia one for running shops/displaying clothes etc? And use my Kahn account for the main business things (i.e: talking to people, etc).

What do you think of the new name then?!

Amnesia Fhang is a great name. :)

It's memorable :)

Adding in that- Lindy beat me to the memorable pun and that I too thought Amnesia was a girl - also I like the the new name.

Good luck in your chosen endeavors- we do need more good men's clothes out there and guys that will take advantage of good men's clothes -
Also, Khan- you will notice with time - this isn't a game per se...it's a community of people. Some nice, some jackasses- it takes all kind. Have fun and good luck.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I have now created my Kahn Bellic character, and he's in SL. Would you recommend just walking around SL before venturing into creating clothes etc? Any good places to visit first?

Thanks again for all the help and support given thus far.

I don't make clothes but I'd definitely recommend getting used to the place first. Why don't you spend some time checking out the good, the bad and the downright ugly clothes and stores around, while at the same time getting accustomed to how everything works? You can see what the competition is (fierce for good quality items) and call it market research.

These blogs will show you some of what's going on in fashion and there dozens of others:

Using the Amnesia account to run the shop sounds good, as people might be loath to give money to a Kahn man.

I agree 100%.

It's not just how to design pretty clothes. There are all sorts of non-obvious questions...
- what should the permissions (copy/mod, or transfer) be for your items?
- what clothing layer(s) should your items be on? Or should you offer them in multiple layers (for example, a pair of jeans in the pants layer won't look good over prim boots, unless the buyer can shorten them...but they go into boots just fine if they're in the underpants layer).
- how to advertise to attract people to your store, without annoying the heck out of them with spam?
- how to package and display your items. Individual vendors? On a model? multi-item vendor?
- Should you sell separates? Or complete outfits, with accessories? Versions in many colors? Fatpacks with all the colors included?

Not to mention all the questions relating to marketing. And all the questions relating to buying/renting land and setting up a store.

You'll find discussions of a lot of these topics right here.

I liked the other name better

for the record I thought female, but it had nothing to do with the name, I thought female because you mentioned getting into fashion, which for some strange reason makes me think female

you never did say if you plan to do male or female designs, or both

does it really matter what gender people think you are on here? after all, in world they would see a male avatar
(I get mistaken for male a lot with this name, but not in world, only seems to happen on here LOL)

one of our very well loved and dearly departed designers was male

I say go with whatever makes you happy

However, if I only use my "normal" alt for walking about/chatting/interacting... Will I not lose points, or will people look at the character and think he is inexperienced etc?
There's no "points" to win or lose in Second Life.

If you get a chance, do a search for "Forum Cartel" in world. There is a group you can join, but we can be as chatty in world as we get out here. There is also the Forum Cartel hangout where men are in short supply. Actually, you will find there many more females than males in SL ... so keep it to yourself and don't tell your friends ;)
