Do you have to wear chain mail to go clubbing?

I've had a long grueling couple of days trying to tackle some old incomplete builds. Tonight I decided to go clubbing just to try to break out of my reclusive routine.

I've determined there are three types of clubs - those where all the customers wear leather, weird chains, and unidentified spikey things dripping off their boots, belts, elbows, and occasionally noses -- and those where the customers wear pretty much nothing at all. The third type of club is the most common of course, the vacant ones.

Whereas it used to be all 80's music which became tiresome, there are now two types of music -- the electronica you might find in a gym that goes thump-mm-thump-mm-thump-mm-thump-mm-thump-mm-thump all night, or something that sounds like what I imagine a burning car full of crucified cats during a train wreck might sound.

We never imagine getting old, but it seems to have happened to me somehow. It isn't helping me get out and socialize.

Is there a market for a 60's and 70's themed club?

Is there an SL rest home?

Well, if you find that rest home, let me know please?

I know of one place that switches between 70s and 80s streams, has no DJ and is, for the most part one of your third types. But we do get together on Sunday evenings. Mostly a group of friends but anyone is welcome to join in.

Send me an IM in world and I'd be happy to send you a LM if you are interested but I'm not going to name the place here.

I recommend the Bubblegum Music Factory in Torva. Lots of 70s music, and populated with good friendly folk most evenings.

I find the biggest problem with clubs is dancers with high rendering costs which slow down the rezzing. The other problem is big hair, spikey heels on long legs, and big glow sticks. Iyoba stands 4'8" and doesn't wear heels.

When I go dancing in SL, I often find myself with a face full of someone else' "medusa hair" or getting stepped on or poked with a glow stick. This last is the least frequent. I wish people would look where they were going on the dance floor. I also wish women would pin up their hair when they went dancing or wear a bob. Having someone else' hair in your eyes is not pleasant. And yes, I can actually feel it.

The Merry Prankster has live music almost every night, a group of regulars who welcome everyone, and it's themed on the Grateful Dead, though only a few of the musicians play the Dead's music. It has a 500 member group, so there are always people there for nightly live music.

Well, part of the reason for clubbing is to step out and show yourself off. Also some of the dances go in wide circles and people run into each other. For some reason we seem to become phantom when we dance, so there's no pushing involved usually. So I can tolerate a lot of those issues.

I just felt severely underdressed or overdressed most places.

I'll check out the suggestions given here.

The idea of 'less is more' is rare on the club scene, unless it's a naked event!
But I usually go clubbing in jeans and T-shirt or a simple summer dress - or less!
I often have my long hair loose, but it's not wild, big hair. I wear simple jewelley, glittery but not blingy!

I can cheerfully recommend the T1 Radio's Warehouse of an evening. They play a mix of jazz era and up and when I've been has always been mixed in dress (though not nude) and sometimes, they have themed events.

Sadly, I'm not much into the clubbing scene as I used to be.

Only in Avilion. :)

But I know what you mean. Most dancing I do is at the forum cartel hangout; the radio has a very good selection of stations from which to choose, so most days/nights, the rock n roll tunes are classics of a sort.

And not to derail this thread, but for me, I don't much care what people are wearing or not wearing at a club; other than running from really loud, angry music, it's the stinkin' ASCII texting that drives me crazy, and sends me on my way.

I haven't been to Bubblegum in ages, but it is a good place.I also like liverpool, which is a Beatles themed sim. It's never very busy when I go, but I don't like crowds anyway.

For just good old Rock and Roll, I recommend The Grease Pit Cafe. It's the classic Roadside joint, and home of the BearInTheMorning radio show most weekday mornings. It's a good show, if you can't get to the club, the stream is worth checking out.

You just have to keep looking. Most of the times I'm going to the next random club my friends know about. There have been times when I asked "Where is the leather and chains?". (=_=)

It's funny dancing in the middle of a glowing pentagram, surrounded by hanging cages and a pool of flowing blood... While the people around you are dressed like beach bums and mallrats. (=_=)

Clubbing has a lot to do with image and style... And "image and style" in SL is pretty gaudy... So expect a lot of mop hair, billion prim chain wear, and all kinds of stuff like that. (^_^)

For more relaxed events... Maybe consider live musicians. The ones I have found are usually pop-folk types that play nice mellow music to a pretty lively crowd. Yeah... Gesture spammy... But, since when was it bad to hoot-n' holler at a concert in RL? (^_^)y

the great thing about SL is if you think somebody is doing it wrong, just go build it better on the next sim over.

not enough 60-70 clubs in sl then build one

"Maille" or maybe "mail" or even simply "chain", in fact, but yes, strictly speaking "chainmail" is a something of a pleonasm.

My Partner and I used to go dancing a LOT and we never ran into any of the types of club you mentioned, Weston. Of course those kind of clubs likely play the kind of music we don't like either.

Here are some suggestions:

The Blue Moon - I've only been there on Sunday nights when our fav DJ (Donagh Dougall) is there and he plays anything from jazz to swing to rockabilly...sometimes Latin nights or "Romantic" nights. That's our current fave...

...followed closely by the Avilion Ballroom. Definitely have to dress there. In fact a set of rules pop up before entering that dictate at least "tea length" dresses for the ladies. That is my favorite, romantic, medieval dance fare.

Frank's Place - Again - nice dress required - only problem there is major lag. The main reason we don't go now.

Cleopatra's is a nice friendly group - they have a theme each night and decorate the club to match.

Grizzy's Cafe - Lots of music from the 60's, 70's, 80's depending on DJ. Generally a theme most nights. (But no "best in" contests...yeaaaaa!!! - Same with Cleo's)

Runaround Sue's is great fun for 50's music

Those are off the top of my head...there's lots more we've been to I'm forgetting now.

Chainmail is not good for clubbing at all. Sure, it will stop a knife and is dandy for preventing draw cuts from a sword as well as being solid protection from roadrash but it does nothing to stop impacts. The clubs would not be hindered at all.
