The easy answer is to just look at the list of "Top Participants" on https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/answers I suppose (a Linden alt, plus some extraordinarily earnest folks I recognize from BSI or as Mentors), but that's not quite what I mean to ask. More like: who from *here* is answering questions *there*, too? I try occasionally, and lately the blogs haven't crapped out on me as before (not sure if they fixed something or I did, having recently migrated from Gentoo to Ubuntu). I find it painfully tedious, though. It's all very brass tacks, buttoned-down, and boring. No banter, no conflict, no personality. Perhaps the failing is mine: that I've not yet learned to appreciate the role of unpaid customer support without the benefits/baggage of "community." Or maybe it would be more of a community if we all went over and trashed-up the joint a bit. Or maybe it's somehow inherent in the structure that it must be sterile and humorless. Truth is, I don't much care what becomes of Second Life Answers; it's just that these forums are expected to move over to some not-yet-known format under the Blogs, to join Second Life Answers and the XstreetSL forums that are migrating within a week, so if there's hope of making that place more hospitable for "our kind," now would be the time.

Maybe we should ask Jig to start one of her Friday threads over there as a test, and see what the official reaction is if we all pile in. Pep (looks for a suitable alt to sacrifice. )

I honestly tried. I gave up within a few weeks. It is too badly organized, too difficult to locate anything in, too difficult even to view the most recent topics without searching each "channel" individually. And it is so SLOW!
I will not use it now, nor will I use the "new forums" with any degree of enthusiasm once they migrate to that blog-based monstrosity. I participate in the Blog Discussions now only because it s the only way to give them any feedback at all. And even then, it's hopeless, because they do not LISTEN.

I spent a few minutes answering one question and I gave the correct answer. My correct answer was followed by an incorrect answer. The "correct answer" point was awarded to the incorrect answer. This decreased my desire to participate.
I think you can't mark your own replies to your own question as correct - so it seems to me, at least. So if you find the answer to your own question, you can't answer it and mark it as answered, and someone else will repeat the reply you just made, rephrased a bit perhaps, in hopes of getting a point.
I didn't seem to be able to delete a question, or to edit a question. I was able to edit a reply, but not a question.
Well enough of that. I've answered a few questions there, and posted some questions and discussions.

I will say it again and again.. a blog does not replace a forum. And that blogware doesn't come close to replicating the feel or sense of community of an actual forum program.
It's really painful to use the globware that SL Answers is on. But maybe I'm just old and set in my ways. Maybe I am just lazy and like the ease of use for a forum. It's intuitive, unlike SL Answers. I go to the forum and there.. it lists all the main categories and sub-forums with their latest post, waiting to be read.
Heck, I had to search for SL Answers... then try to figure out how to use the darn thing.
LL.. doesn't really want us communicating with each other, apparently. It's much easier to pull the wool over our eyes if we're individuals, rather than the frothing mass of faceless forumites that we know and love..

By the way, I got a really nice email saying it the case was "closed". Now does that mean I won? Did I win on appeal? In California????

I participated in the closed beta run of SL Answers and found the interface and methods to be very wonky. The answer marking method relies on the person asking their question to mark the answer they accepted as the best, which may have been the wrong answer. On top of that, I see no admin tools and no way of reporting bad posts. (T_T) It's no more or less subjective than the forums, and, it leaves little room for response and discussion if someone gets steered in the wrong direction. (>_< So... Like the Xstreet forums... I keep my distance. (=_=)y

I participate on Yahoo Answers sometimes with about the same result. It is fairy obvious when question askers are looking not for an answer but helping egg each other on and baiting their question for someone specific. It is also rather chilling at the number of people who give rude and worthless answers -- then get chosen as the best answer. It does indeed make one less likely to participate. On the plus side, I've asked a few questions there and gotten great answers right away that solved problems.

I looked thru it yesterday. Most of the questions had very iffy answers. Blind leading the blind. ((no offenece ment, I am sure any answer coming from a reader of *this* forum is perfect. ))
wanting to correct an answer I tried to post. But like the rest of the blogware, I can't post(or even copy paste into) with my iPhone. If the lack of iPhone(or ant touchscreen phone/PDA) support continues I'll never post there.

I tried to answer a few questions there, but have no inclination to return, for all the reasons Ceera listed (the most important being the difficulty of browsing through all the discussions available).
It's like the worst aspects of an official knowledge base combined with the worst aspects of a community forum, without the good aspects of either.
And I don't at all like the fact that the answers are as likely to be wrong as ones given here, but the design may mislead newbies to think that they're authoritative.

Well not me for sure. And I won't ever. If this forum goes the same route as the XStreet forum (and it will eventually) I am gone. And choose an independent forum to join.

Eh...
I don't like communicating by posting comments to blogs.
Sorry, the format is just too impersonal. These forums are impersonal enough as it is - that blog thing is even worse.
Off to the slapt.me and TheOtherLife forums for me...

I said this elsewhere, but anyway...
I tried it. I asked questions, replied to questions. I didn't like it, and never went back.
It is (or was) hard to navigate, hard to look at (I got a headache whenever I was on for more than a few minutes, and that never happens to me elsewhere), incorrect and irrelevant answers were marked as the best answers...
I think I'm a pretty open person, but I couldn't go with it.
If they do a fundamental revamp, I'd be willing to give it another crack, but ONLY if they fix the hard-to-read aspect.
ETA - The OP's mention of a "Linden alt" reminded me: I was confused about some users who seemed to have a different, superior status (such as mentor or something like). Being used to the egalitarian setup of this forum, I found it difficult to know whether they really HAD some different status or were only posing.
