From: Eclectic Wingtips I joined the SL discovery hunt as a designer.
One thing i have been VERY pleased about has been the fact the facilitators have strict guidelines about how to hide the prize. Also stores over a certain size are required to hve a hint giver to help with the finding of items.
I love doing hunts and looking for things but i tend to get very frustrated in a store which hides it in between walls or in huge stores. Then I WILL be doing this hunt. I have to agree that some hunt organisers do seem to let the power of people turning to them go to their heads. I've been yelled at by a very visible hunt organiser (who I didn't even realise was there, or was a hunt organiser...but it is not like they should be bowed to like President or something? Right? And who btw wasn't the organiser of the hunt in question). My sin? Saying that I would be back to this store because they made the hiding place less than painful. Out of nowhere comes this voice "IT'S A HUNT!!" - get over yourself is all I could think, and secondly, "I'm not your child" but when I simply said "No one was talking to you" she vanished. Nice. On another hunt's note card was this person - as organiser. And I have since heard way too many similar stories - people being yelled at in groups for asking for a hint. People being publicly scolded for saying they were exhausted and could someone please IM them a hint or location for this store? (Not only re: one organiser/group admin but re: most of them!) I do see that this person has put in some rules into her own hunts since then, that make hiding places a bit more sane, but I also noticed some things that had me still shaking my head. I won't do any hunt that person organises because of that glimpse of her as a control freak. If a person feels they can control every person on SL or how they hunt, then they need to take a deep breath, drink a nice cold drink, and take a long look in the mirror - they are taking all of this too seriously. It should be fun, it should be something people can easily stop and start, it should be something guys can do without having to wade through stacks of lingerie they can't use, (well most can't) as prizes are no transfer. In other words adding blogs with names of participating stores is a nice nod to the people hunts are built on - THE HUNTERS.

I kind of like the big hunts, but I don't go in with the attitude of having to finish the whole list. I like ones that list the stores SLUR on a websight and don't make you progress numerically. Then when I am bored or feel like shopping I randomly grab a shop and go look for the item and whatever else they have to offer.

I just joined a group called Midnight Mania that isn't just about the Midnight Mania boards. I think they also tell you about any hunts going on whether it is grid-wide, store-wide, or sim-wide
