I saw the sun one day, it had 1,000,000 on it. That's 1Million accounts.
The day we see that again it will be 1million concurrent. A long way to go yet.
And it's probably not the amount of users on but the erroneous state of servers which, going by the complaint number of threads, is rising.

1 million concurrent, I think Aerosmith said it best....

Yep, and even allowing for bots, this is a pretty high number. Given the time of day and time zones, I would love to have stats on where people are geographically logging in during these peak periods.

In Tokyo it's 7:02 am, Brisbane its 8:02 am, Moscow 1:02 am, Berlin 11:02 pm, London 10:02 pm, NYC 5:02 pm, Austin, 4:02 pm, and San Francisco 2:02 pm.

its a public holiday in japan.. monday and time doesnt count.. but i went to sleep anyway.. no way in.

1 alt. Most alts are used for traffic bots, camping bots or ban evasion anyway: All you need is one.

I have more than 1 alt. Each has a purpose, none of which is serving as a traffic bot.

Unless you own a business, or several businesses, as I do, you can't begin to understand legitimate need for the alts.

I'm waiting for 100k; but I wonder what a critical percentage of the world's population would be in terms of accounts.

I mean a critical mass in that there would be enough people with a virtual identity to have a profound effect on RL. Where SL fashion would affect RL fashion...things like that.

I disagree. There are a number of valid uses for a number of alts.

When testing poses I often need 3. Sure, I can sometimes find avs to help, but it's far more effective to just pull in my alts.

People who role play often want a complete av that's in character. What's wrong with that? Nothing. What's wrong with them playing any number of roles? Nothing. What's the advantage to the rest of us? Well, they buy more products like skins, clothing, AOs, etc.

I also use some for financial purposes: all income from a particular source goes to a particular alt. Makes certain financial situations a lot simpler. For example, the income going to one alt gets split a specific way to partners, and profit-sharing vendors wouldn't work well in this case.

I'm sure that there are plenty of other perfectly good reasons for alts.
