Needless to say, logins are disabled.

Has anyone ever seen the number go this high before?

I crashed and when I tried to get it it was 80,566. I wonder how many of that number of those that have crashed and the system haven't cleared out yet.. i.e. ME!!

It would appear that reports of SL losing popularity are...premature.

This would be dependent upon whether it's popular amongst users or bots ;)

Someday SL may become popular enough that LL will actually release figures on how many logins ARE bots.

Yep, and even allowing for bots, this is a pretty high number. Given the time of day and time zones, I would love to have stats on where people are geographically logging in during these peak periods.

In Tokyo it's 7:02 am, Brisbane its 8:02 am, Moscow 1:02 am, Berlin 11:02 pm, London 10:02 pm, NYC 5:02 pm, Austin, 4:02 pm, and San Francisco 2:02 pm.

Some day SL may become so popular that LR will actually do the right thing and stop allowing alts.

This isn't an alt problem. It's a traffic bot problem. If they ended anonymous accounts and limited everyone to, oh, 2 or 3 alts? I think that would be sufficient.

I agree, that information would be fascinating.

According to Pathfinder it's a new record for concurrency.

I saw the sun one day, it had 1,000,000 on it. That's 1Million accounts.
The day we see that again it will be 1million concurrent. A long way to go yet.
And it's probably not the amount of users on but the erroneous state of servers which, going by the complaint number of threads, is rising.

Ahh, shucks ;)

I have to admit, as soon as you posted, I tried to get in and after a few attempts was able to log in on our island. I pulled up the map to see the SL distribution and was surprised how many are actually on the Mainland. I assumed the private estates would be high. I have one screenshot and will try to get another. As you would expect, the green dots appear and the outline of mainland and some of the estates but a lot of blue.

Wrong solution.

The right solution is to properly support and track alts formally in the user interface.

We should have an account we log in to, and have one or more agents or avatars that belong to that account. And then limit people to one account and limit the account to enough concurrent logins for reasonable use. That will allow legitimate use of alts without leting people create armies of bots.

1 alt. Most alts are used for traffic bots, camping bots or ban evasion anyway: All you need is one.

I need more than two just to be in all the groups I need to be in. AND I'm not having to hide from stalkers.

That seems blindingly sensible.

So I suppose.....no chance!?!?!? :(

I don't think it is an Alt or Bot 'problem'. (Leave it alone whether they are good or bad!) The ~real~ problem is SL core systems cannot handle the concurrency. Even if Alts and/or Bots were not allowed, and concurrency dropped to a number that the core SL systems could handle, eventually, concurrency will creep up again and hit a level at which problems start happening again.

LL made a blog that they were going to improve the db systems, but so far, not much has happened. Worse, one of the attempted improvements resulted in peoples' inventory items not being allowed to rez if they were over a certain age!

They (LL) need to stop trying to remove the instances that are 'hurting' the system and make the system more resilient.

Just my thoughts!

They're doing that with things like the new dedicated network linking their data centers.
