That's given me something else to associate the image with, but my first association was with cats (nice emotion) because of the face paint on the guy on the left, and then the one at the bottom showing his tongue reminded me of a boy I went to school with (nasty emotion). So you are now responsible for causing mixed feelings!

If you really want to make people feel the way you want them to feel I suggest you take some acting lessons. Actors and performers specialise in that sort of thing.

Or writing lessons. Rhetoricians also specialize in that sort of thing.

I think that this should come with a "Toxic Viewing" label or something. It is certainly not appropriate for work. Or indeed, ANYWHERE I can think of, offhand.

That actually reminded me of a Halloween in Isla Vista. I have some vague memory of being painted like Gene Simmons and watching a tribute band, Spinal Crap, from a...I think it was a kid's swingset?

Anyhow, I wonder why some people are so adamant that their actions can't possibly provoke emotions that they are 'responsible' for? I'm starting to wonder if there is an issue of definitions

That aside, it cracks me up, the idea that we can choose to regulate our emotions as though we're vulcans. Our reactions, to varying degrees, yes. If no one is responsible for x causing the average person to have a 'feeling' of y, why did humanity evolve with the concepts of politeness, civility, justice, etc?

I'm starting to come to the conclusion that the idea of not being responsible for people's emotions is coming more from the direction of, I said x to you, and 70% of people hearing that would feel y. You (no particular you in mind) felt q pie delta quark flippedy freak out. To try to be consistent, I would still admit to being the event that caused the wobbler, but not necessarily 'feel' responsible for what was an unexpected or exaggerated reaction.

There's the crux of the problem. We are all anonymous with anonymous backgrounds. The more we interact, the more personality and personal history is revealed (or isn't). You can 'feel' something based on what someone says/writes/does which will be totally unrelated to what they meant you to think or feel. Yet, it was still said event that caused the recipient to react. You really do need a minimum amount of information about people to to provoke (manipulate?) any pretense of a sophisticated desired outcome.

poson...their feelings and their actions are their responsibility and so are yours....maybe if you yelled fire in a theater in cambodia no one would even bat an eyelash since they might not understand what the word means....its all about context, but either way you dont control others....oh and the deaf people in the back row who are reading the subtitles might also ignore you...hehe
