Anybody still remembers those of exaggerated but so nice sunsets from the time before they invented "Wind and Light"?

Is there a way to fiddle with the client settings to get them back?

Have you tried messing with the environment editor? World/Environment Settings/Environment editor.

I remember when they changed the sun texture to a heart on valentines day.

I also just realized there is no sun with windlight. Just a spot where it is brighter.

Use a non windlight viewer...like Cool Viewer 1.19. I have those sunsets all the time. :)

I may be wrong, but don't you essentially recover non-windlight skies if you turn off the shaders in the graphics preferences? I am not in a position to run a viewer now and check this.

No, you really don't. I tried it, skies and water become these ugly colorless semi opague things with WL turned to minimum. You need a totally WL free viewer to see the old skies and water.

I miss the "holiday" sun! It was a jack o' lantern on Halloween, an Easter Egg, a heart candy for Valentine, Shamrock for St. Paddy's...

Same for the moon...

Windlight is pretty, but I think the holiday sun/moon was prettier.

Yes, I do too, but remember how people complained about the last few times it was changed?

Ah, okay. I wasn't thinking of just selecting the minimum slider settings, but specifically of turning shaders off. I trust your experience though. :)

That was apparently before my time. I think stuff like that is cool. I guess the fact they've stopped doing things like that says something about LL now.

That's because some people have no imagination. I preferred the holiday sun and moon, because it felt like LL was really a part of the world and giving us giggles in return.

I remember the bluish/orangish gradient sunset. It was one of the reasons I gave up on SL so quickly.

I liked the old sky and sun. I used to sit and watch the sunsets in SL. No more though. Windlight has not increased my enjoyment of SL a bit.

Someone with a sim might be able to fake it with a megaprim sky dome and some scripting.

I liked the fact you could see land going off into the distance even if your draw distance meant there were no prims there. The fake sea we get now instead still makes me cringe.

Yes.

I was just pivoting around, and noting the not filled in light blue triangular pieces at the edges when you pivot around. Sigh.

Same here, used to watch the sunsets religiously. Now I own waterfront land in SL and do not care. This is not just a matter of being bored with it. I lived for years on Pass-A-Grille, FL (South end of St. Pete Beach) and I never, ever became bored with waking across the street to watch the sunset. Pre-Windlight had that same "magic".

Yep, I don't bother taking it out of midday any more. The sun just isn't that visible anymore.

I looked up towards the sun in RL today.. not something I enjoy, by the way, but it was a circle in the sky. Not some indistinct shape that looks like the sun attempting to burn down through the haze of cloud, but an actual circle. If LL were gods, it'd be a haze... not pretty.

I do love WindLight, but a few things about the old sky were more inspired. And the old way of rendering the distance was better by far. However, the give and take in necessary, I believe.

I miss the playfulness.

But it really is gone, so no sense crying over it, I suppose.
