Similar to the 'Your Linden name? ' thread...
What would you work on at The Lab if they paid you a salary to do anything you want?
I think I'd turn the showcase into a true best-of-SL index. It'd be a hand-selected collection of stuff that is actually useful, based on resident discussion and my own examination. I'd take the job only on the condition that no higher-up Linden could force me to include something I didn't think should be there.
I've actually put a lot of effort into doing something like this, but can't think of a way to make it pay for itself and my time without selling influence. Realistically, only someone paid a salary by LL can make this happen.

I would like to work on the newbie/first hour experience team, or on strategies to monetize new and existing residents (i.e. turn them into paying customers who buy L$).
I'd also enjoy being a liaison to in-world business owners, someone who could hold office hours and meet with major content creators to listen to their concerns and feedback.
I would love to work for LL, so long as I didn't have to give up my land business.

I'd love to work on the newbie experience too.
I'd also completely replace the Knowledge Base with the Wiki, which I would revamp to be more user-friendly.
I'd love to spend time inworld as a liaison.

Communications and Customer Service. They are so clueless in these areas, I couldn't do any worse then they have.

Premium Account Holder experience guru. There has been two years worth of Lip Service about providing perks for this demographic. Time to make it happen.

I'd work on improving LSL functionality. Including llGetLinkPrimitiveParams, llTeleportAgent, non-volatile per-prim storage, and call-by-reference.

The first thing I'd work on, if given the chance, would be improving the avatar mesh. The one we've got now is really quite terrible, in many ways, as we so often discuss over in the content creation forums.
The second thing I'd want to do would be to overhaul the UI. There are so many inconsistencies, unnecessary complications, and convolutions in the existing setup, it's almost embarrassing. I've had an improved design in mind for several years now, which I'd love to implement if I could. I'd actually do it myself in my own viewer, if I knew anything about programming. But alas, I'm just an artist, so all I can do is draw pretty pictures of how I wish it were set up. Team me up with some people who could bring my design to reality, though, and I think there'd be a lot of happy users out there.
After that, documentation, documentation, documentation. Torley and others have done a great job in recent years of helping newbies understand various aspects of SL, but it's not nearly enough. A more streamlined UI would certainly help, but whether that ever happens or not, there's simply no excuse not to document every last feature of the system (in layman-friendly language).

From: Brenda Connolly Communications and Customer Service. They are so clueless in these areas, I couldn't do any worse then they have. Amen to that one! I would totally rework that entire department! Good business begins and ends with customer service....I don't care WHAT kind of business it is. It can absolutely destroy an otherwise 'good' business. I would love to have the chance to overhaul LL's Customer Service practices. As for the OP's idea of Showcase Places......I agree it could be improved.....BUT.....it's not something that should be filtered based on ONE person's opinion. That's about the epitome of biased screening. I've actually tekn some time to browse the showcases and I've found some amazing things that I never would have discovered otherwise. It seems that they like to pick very very innovative and artful things to showcase.....which happens to appeal to me personally. I could care less if there's another avatar around.....but I definitely enjoy exploring really interesting areas. I don't think there's ever going to be a way to please everyone wit the Showcase selections.....but, I DO agree some of the stuff really doesn't belong there.

Professional shopper with a unlimited $L expense account for a showcase blog. I can think of many here who are much more qualified, but no one else claimed it.

What would you work on at The Lab if they paid you a salary to do anything you want? I'd work as an ombudsman, connecting Residents to Lindens, providing communication and feedback in a way that is often lacking.

From: Marianne McCann I'd work as an ombudsman, connecting Residents to Lindens, providing communication and feedback in a way that is often lacking. Torley Linden tried this and failed. The FIC engulfed him and he was sent out to pasture on YouTube. When you start believing your own publicity your doomed. .

I'd be FollowTheMoney Linden.
I'd datamine the transaction databases for good summary information on the economy that would be useful for residents.
One of the things that would be interesting to do in the light of the current drama over traffic bots and camping for traffic would be:-
I'd look for people that are continuously making large numbers of small payments to large numbers of other avatars in one location. Then I'd probably have major camping operators, casinos, and that sort of profile. I'd review the top X and refine the search criteria so that I'm seeing something I want to follow.
Let's say I have the major camping operators out of that. I look at the avatars to whom they are paying those small amounts. I have the campers.
I analyse the spending by those avatars. I'm looking for a pattern of an avatar transferring all their cash to a single avatar or to a small number of avatars. I follow the pyramids. It doesn't matter if the cash looks like a payment for something. What matters is the path the cash follows.
I've got the large camping-bot operators at the high volumes. I've got the smaller 2 or 3 simultaneous alt operator if I'm interested in them. I set the trigger levels. I've also got a bunch of campers who earn and spend, and are not taking the piss. These I have to try avoid impacting if possible.
I look at what the people at the top of such pyramids do with the cash. Do they cash out? Do they spread it around? Are they part of a super-pyramid? Are they simply penultimate link?
If I want to stop people milking the economy in this way and cashing out, I can whack their accounts for Alt-Abuse and confiscate anything in their accounts - subject to appeal of course. I can even whack the bot operators who don't actually cash out if I want. I'd look at what they are using it for.
If they try to come back as a new account, I can already have all their their known payment info barred. It might not stop them, but it would make it more difficult.
Out of it all, I'd have a good picture on the reality of the situation. The blog is full of dramatic assertions about the scale and value of camping. I'd publish my summary figures so that people could discuss things in that light.
