You won't probably believe but most likely most Second Life users are either disabled or older generation.....
According to a recent survey that more than 20 percent of respondents reported having a physical, mental, or developmental disability, as opposed to just over 15 percent of the general population in the latest US census data. More than 2,700 disabled gamers responded to the survey and offered a glimpse at why and how they play. As for age, this is an avatar roleplaying the Okasan of a Japanese teahouse. I would think aging on the face was accomplished with sliders. Nah, thats just the lack of a facelight. ![]() _____________________

When I was that age, we didnt use AOs or spend our time posing in other people's yards. We walked, damnit, with that herky-jerky walk like a red-haired stepchild with a broomhandle up his butt. All the way to school, with no prim shoes, uphill both ways, all winter long! And we were damn proud to do it! Uphill both ways? You musta had terraforming, you young whippersnapper! In my day, we had to walk on the underside of the ground. |

Yeah and we had to walk uphill ruthed against Havok1, Teleport was a priveldge for only Premiums account holders .................. We had to swim to get to islands estates .................. And prims only came in 1m cubes, we had to use a primsaw to cut them to size or primwelding to join them or riveted plates. I have often wished for a saw in SL. My kingdom for a saw! Imagine what you could do with it. Cut any shape you want, cut out pesky parts of roofs that want to go through ceilings. In real life, you get SAWS. coco _____________________

As a nearly 60 person, I want to know where to get skins that look over 30. There are plenty of punky male skins with wild hair and 5 o'clock shadow, or have that Greek god look. And lots of variations on a big-boobed Barbie for women. I would like to look more how I feel. (which is less than 60, but certainly over 30) Mojito, steer clear of skins that look shiny and get yourself some decent body hair - I think it adds a bit of age to the body. The Body Hair Shop's rather good, but that's the only name I know and others may be able to suggest other shops. The hair on your head... don't ask me, I've never found one that i like, apart from my original 2006 Dante hair. But, to the OP, I was out dancing the other week, the conversation turned to age. At 50, i was one of the youngest ![]() |

It's only a 5% difference than the general population. However that does not alter my question, he said most of the people in SL yada, yada, yada = 20% is not most in my book Trout. Here is the original quote again: You won't probably believe but most likely most Second Life users are either disabled or older generation..... _____________________

Yes I noticed that right away - 20% - 15% = 5% However that does not alter my question, he said most of the people in SL yada, yada, yada = 20% is not most in my book Trout. Here is the original quote again: I completely agree. I was pointing out that the difference between SL and the general population is much less significant than he was making it sound. It's not reasonable to expect SL to be a mirror of the general population because SL is going to appeal to a certain niche group. Regardless, the relative numbers of people reporting that they had disabilities as compared to the general population is not significant. Plus, who knows how accurate the survey was. At any rate, you are entirely correct. 20% is not even close to a majority, so no matter how skewed the stats are, there is no way you can come to the conclusion by looking at them that the majority of SL users suffer from some sort of disability. I'm pretty sure however, that the majority of residents at certain nameless locations in SL are suffering from some sort of severe brain trauma. You can probably figure out the locations yourself. _____________________

I wish I were a writer. I would love to be a novelist. But the costs are too great. I just couldn't afford it, and while I write great short posts, who knows if I could pull of an entire book? Maybe if I ever grow up, I'll buckle down and write something. From "Stuff White People Like" "#21 Writer’s Workshops January 23, 2008 by clander It’s no secret. White people want to be writers. Why wouldn’t they? Work 10 hours a week from a country house in Maine or England. Get called a genius by other white people, and maybe get your book made into a film. Every single white person harbors this dream. No matter what they tell you, all of them have at least one chapter of a novel stashed away somewhere. Being a marginally crafty race, white people will often seek out every possible route to achieving this goal, and one of the most popular methods has been writers workshops. These are expensive mini go-to-school type vacations. Where you talk with a published writer (often someone you haven’t heard of, but they have a book on Amazon) who will tell you how they became writers. If there is time, they will listen to you read your stuff and tell that you it’s good but it needs work on a) structure, b) characters, c) dialogue. Then they will collect their check and go back to their country house or studio apartment in New York." _____________________

I am partnered with a man over 60, who is a wonderful person...and if you were to talk to him you would never guess his age. You do realize this isn't a compliment? Goldarnit, I expect some dividends for the five and half decades I've been around. So I'd sure as hell better sound different than some 30-year-old whipper-snapper that's wet behind the ears! ![]() _____________________

I work in a virtual world and most did not know I was as old as I am, which is 64. I do not try to act young, I just act my age, but that does not mean I have to act old. To me when you close your mind you are OLD. My partner is young and she knows my age, we share a lot of things and are different on a lot of things -- but most of the differences are culture, not age. She is exposing me to different music and most is good. O f course she did not know who Pogo was when I said I was voting for him for President. |

Of course she did not know who Pogo was when I said I was voting for him for President. I thought my teasing tone was pretty obvious, but you actually provided one of those markers of age that I use without thinking. I'm gradually getting used to making references that no one gets any more. _____________________
