From: Smoke Gordonstone I just purchased my first sailboat on SLX a few nights ago. After searching for water sims that were somewhat vacant (so I could learn how to use it without getting in the way of others) I then ran into the problem of no build/no object entry and could not find a place to rezz it. Finally finding a place to rezz it, when I got in and raised the sails the boat tipped over on its side and I almost drowned. Is this a Havok 4 thing? Maybe I bought a crappy boat? Am I getting too off topic from what the OP was asking? If so, I apologize. the fact you mentioned 'boat' means you more on topic than most

From: Cunundrum Alcott If you do a search in SLX it "should" be at the top of the list for riverboat. In game the list of riverboats is short and I'm easy to find, there is also a link in my Picks. I don't know what other people are seeing, but I went to SLX, entered "riverboat" as a search term and it don't see it. The first two entries are actually riverboats followed by pages of furniture and whatnot. Is it listed under an alt? --Hugsy

From: Dekka Raymaker in Havoc 4 SIM crossing is doable now, have you tried yet, well I have fun with a spaceship now, I can do about 20 SIM crossings with little bumps and no unseating. No I haven't in at least a couple months. I gave up after the sinkings, random launchings, and watching boats go in an endless circle (that was a bit entertaining though). Maybe I'll try it again.

I've a nice big yacht but no place to park it.. I just realized I could decorate it then link everything into it, and put it wherever I want for the afternoon.. errr.. with permissions of course from the water owner.
I'd love to sail.. I'm a big boat guy in RL.. lived on a 25' for a few months.. loved the gypsy life.

Small sailable boats. I've tried ones like the Tako that use SL wind but I found them more frustrating than challenging, although I can appreciate people's liking for them. I might give it anther try under the new physics. I currently have an Aely elven trader that can optionally ghost through objects. Good for pleasure sailing with a friend on board, and easy enough to type and sail without crashing into things. I love sailing the flooded caverns beneath Avaria.

From: Cunundrum Alcott I didn't know vehicles could ghost thru items, will it go thru banlines also? I wish. Also, the vehicle will ghost, but the passengers won't, so you still can't get through solid walls. Some vehicles (boats especially) ghost only parts like mast and keel, others do the whole thing.

From: Cunundrum Alcott This was at the top of my page; Riverboat "The Chocolate Lady" Not for you? Yes, that's at the top of my search results. After opening that item if I'm reading the page correctly, it's for sale by Sharon White. I don't see your name anywhere on the page, but if that's yours, then I'm seeing it. --Hugsy

You can boat, ride, drive for hours across wide open water/space and never hit a thing.

I share your frustration at lack of sales, Cunundrum. I have spent about 80 hours making a narrowboat (English canal boat)- it is stationary, a home, and packed to the gills with as many features as i coud think of. http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=650805I have sold exactly one in the five days it has been for sale. The first one of my prefabs to have done so badly. I wish I knew what is wrong with it. I spent a good while checking other prefabs to get a price - comparing the features, the fact it has custom texturing etc. It has taken me longer than anything else and was a real labour of love. This thread has indicated that the reason is perhaps the simple fact that it is a stationary boat and people want boats to move. I could convert it to 'moving', though doing so would take a while and might mean lessening the features. I don't want to 'hog' Cunundrum's thread, but please, (as i think this would be useful to her too) would anyone care to give an opinion as to whether our boats would be more desirable if they moved (possibly with less features) - or if not, why are they not selling?? If anyone would be so kind as to IM me ingame with any comments/criticisms etc - I would seriously appreciate it - I pride myself on my quality and want to get it right.

I enjoy sailboats of all sizes. Sometimes I like to do hot laps on one of the many available racecourses in my Tako, other times I like to just slowly cruise with friends and look at the scenery. I also enjoy my kayak. It's great for exploring. In RL I am a power boater and kayaker. In SL I just can't see myself using a powerboat. I'm generally not in that much of a hurry to get anywhere and if I am, then I TP. Sim crossings do seem to be much improved with Havok4. Not perfect, but better.

Elgyfu I agree that it does appear that stationary boats are nowhere near as popular. I've only bought stationary boats and thought everyone enjoyed them

http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=571682I've sold exactly one of these in 6 months. I don't think boats in general are selling well.

Definitely drivable. Also, ketch rig motorsailers with a wheelhouse. Anyone ever see a replica Colvic-Watson, let me know.

From: Cunundrum Alcott Oh! Sharon White is my real name. Don't ask me why I registered with SLX with my real name....seemed like a good idea at the time Do you have your SL real name in the ad? If someone looks up Sharon White in search in SL will they find you? What I meant to say was: OMG!! A real name!! Run, Hide, there's no telling what it might do! but, I forgot.
