From: Ghosty Kips LL should simply disallow residents under a certain age, say three months, from buying land at all. Aquiring, renting and buying land on islands or mainland can be a complex process, especially for a new resident. Give people time to do the homework before they rush out to make the same stupid mistakes we see all the time. Apart from the fact that there are those who after a week in SL can (and do) buy and sell land without being cuaght by bots, whereas someone in SL for years, and who should really know better can (and do) make mistakes sometimes, it also ignores the fact that the age of an avatar does not reflect someones experience with SL (see alts). Well, I'm not talking about alts. Since there's no way to tell whether someone is or is not an alt for the purposes of this discussion, let's not assume someone is an alt and take the born-on date as what it implies - a new resident. The land system won't know the difference. The three month figure was based on my own learning curve (duuuuh-uh!) ... sure, there are folks who can step in and have it all down pat inside of a week. Should we pattern this idea on the basis of a week, then? What good does that do? Do we install a test, to prove knowledge of the system before purchases are allowed? Should there be a screening process? Or perhaps we simply leave the status quo as is and continue to watch folks get ripped off? How about we just say three months, then. Or even one month. Not, like, two days, like the guy in the other thread wondering why people are able to find him at his house after being here only 72 hours.

If you haven't seen or heard about how bots can find your land in search, tp, rez, and buy it all before your finger has left the Sell button, then you are at risk. If you don't know about it, there's no reason to think about it as a possibility.

From: Ghosty Kips Well, I'm not talking about alts. Since there's no way to tell whether someone is or is not an alt for the purposes of this discussion, let's not assume someone is an alt and take the born-on date as what it implies - a new resident. The land system won't know the difference. The problem is, however, that as you say there is no way the land system can tell the difference between a new resident and an alt. If I (as a seasoned resident) create a new alt, I'm not going to be too happy if that alt is prevented from buying and selling land for a month or two - especially if I'd created that alt to help run a land business. The test idea has some merit if something about land buying/selling and the risks was introduced into the tasks on orientation island, perhaps. I still think a 5 minute delay after setting land for sale before it appears in search or during which time it can only be purchased by people already in the sim at the point it was set for sale is the easiest way of adding a reasonable safety net without too many unwanted side effects. FYI, the problem and this thread was brought to Jack Linden's attention during his weekly Office Hour meeting. The 5-minute delay to the Search before a parcel is put up for sale was the best idea. This wont get your money back, but hopefully a solution will come forward eventually.
A second idea was brought up to have a transfer parcel option button "Transfer" next to the sell parcel button. It essentially would only allow 0$L sales to a specific individual. On the backend, it would be the same as a Sale to specific individual for 0$L. Who knows if and when that would ever be implemented.

As long as it didn't take 5minutes delay to sell a parcel to an alt or someone standing next to you, problem is they would start using all the 16ms to have a bot bouncing between a dozen sims constantly looking for land for sale.
