But it's fun to do that. I can't stop doing it. It's so important to receive that "first signal" - will I like her/him? Can I work wih her/him. And especially - since many of us do this: what type/make of shoes is the man or woman wearing? Open-toed sandals won't cut it with me. Huge cloppitty hoppity Nikes wont get you past the elevator. Great hairstyle. Decent clothes. They show me if the man/woman has any respect for how they present their inner-self to the outer world.

Then I find out what they can speak about and can they speak intelligently.

Buddha, Jesus, Gandhi and a few other peeps mighta not passed your inspection ;)

Yeah. Bunch a'Hippies.
"Get outta my way!" she says sweeping aside a bearded cove and a kinda tubby rascally type. As she hightails it to her Lexus.
"No, I don' wanna be saved, thank you very much!"
Peep peeep from her automatic door lock.
"Okay, okay gimme the pamphlet... what's this??? New testament? Wasn't the old one perfectly good? And why are you smiling at me, old man?? No I dont want a "prayer wheel" - I've already got some at home."
Then in rearview mirror she sees JC bending down and nips out and runs to back of car.
"Hey YOU!" as he disappears round corner, "What's this sticker mean? 'JESUS SAVES'"

Why does something about that make me feel dirty?
Keep talking like that and Uncle Ray won't give you the candy he brought you.

That is a family I would enjoy being part of.
And I'm sure I speak for the others when I say it would be much better if you were part of it.

When I was a kid I really wished I could fly. I'd have loved that.

I believe it was Aristotle who argued that "wisdom comes alone through suffering".
But did he mean that suffering is the only way to gain wisdom, or that wisdom is the only thing earned by suffering?

He may have had some insight there. They are now exploring the possibility the heart does more than pump blood. Personally, I think there is a lot about the body science has not discovered and/or understands poorly. The state of medicine today will someday be seen as a Dark Ages.

If you wonder what I refer to about the heart - sometimes people who have had a heart transplant begin craving things the donor craved, find talents the donor had, which the recipient never before possessed, and also have memories of the donor's life. Inexplicably. Unless the heart for instance contains memory cells or some other such thing.

Why would a fantastic machine such as the human body not be more efficient than we could ever dream.

Oh and they believed the appendix had no function, too. Vestigal my tail.
Very interesting. I know when emotions happen to me it feels as if chemicals are being released inside my chest.

Wait the appendix has a function? Mine is gone; what am I missing?

I dont belive this is a question that can reasonably be answered- think of it as realtime karma. You are who you are because of who you have been. Every day and every person makes me who i am. Every experience - there is no way I could say this wd be better this way- because i wd then not be me. No, thank you- I will keep me as I am- with all my faults and screw ups.
Yeah it would be like wishing your kids never existed because your marriage to their other parent didn't work. We all got where we are by being where we've been.

But I do find it interesting to think of how things might have been different if we'd been other places.

Does SL have a side to it that would have made you a happier kid?

Well, that's sort of a no-brainer, isn't it? If I had grown up in SL, I would have been able to fly, to conjure toys and any other items I might want out of thin air whenever I please, to move my point of view to anywhere I want (including through walls) without having to move my body, and to alter my physical appearance at will. What more could a kid possibly want?

Heck, just the ability to mute unpleasant people probably would have transformed middle school from the lunatic asylum that it was into something actually bordering on pleasant.

And let's not forget the disappearing skirt bug. That could have been tons of fun in middle school and high school. :D

I would follow Nimue anywhere. Even into one of your inappropriate threads.

I know you miss the attention I was lavishing on you of late. Don't worry. You'll still find plenty of suckers to continue to enable your drama and diatribes.

Heck just the fact that I could've skipped chicken pox might have made all the difference.

I have met some great ppl in sl but to be honest i have never wanted to have any as my family. I had a mother and father they were not perfect but they were my parents i would never want to replace them with pretend ones. I have a brother and sister they are also not perfect but again i would never want to replace them with pretend ones.
For me personally I dont see the need to have others play such roles no matter how kinds and helpful they are and I do not want to be anyone's mum I have 3 rl kids of my own that is more than enough

I have lived in many places also, but wasn't BORN in them. That makes the difference for me. I would never change the circumstances of my birth. I had a "good" life - a REALLY good life. I believe that in whatever way I feel simpatico with the people, I still can't get "inside the skin." The river that flows in my veins does not flow in theirs and vice versa.

for me personally I can't compare directly to the place I was born, since I only lived there till I was one... but I can compare it to the multitudes of places I lived growing up.... some aspects better than others, but mostly better than almost any of the places I grew up in which included a trailer in the woods, projects in the city and a failing family farm. the lost social stability taken as a whole is still worse than almost all the places I've been (and I added a few even worse as an adult)...

I can't say if I would have turned out better of worse in a different environment, so I just take what I have and go with it.... it's made me a little wiser to the difference and commonality of people, but I'm not sure that wisdom has led to happiness.... I think only time and acceptance of the moment can do that

That's because they didn't have embarrassing daytime game shows in ancient Greece. Now you can win FABULOUS PRIZES through suffering.

Neither would I, I am sure. I have never paid too much attention to that outer world thing. And if I had tons of money, I would leverage that into even greater eccentricity. Like wearing my smoking jacket all day, every day.
