OK, first came the annoucemnt of the adult content changes, causing upheaval, anger, etc. Forced moves to a new contenient, new content rules, advertising rule, etc. Clearly apposed by a VAST majority of the second life users that built this service and pay the bills, but stilll pushed forward.

Next came the server upgrades to support these changes; and with them, one major bug at least; still not acknowledge by the Lindens; either in the new adult verification sfotware for the sims, or the new avatar script monitoring code.

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-4196

A bug that will bring a sim to a screaming halt in 1 to 10 days depending on how busy it is.

Then came viewer 1.23 to support the adult content changes, possibly the worst beta to released software I have ever seen. Rushed out the door to support adult content changes again. This baby has so many bugs in it, Microsoft would be proud to call it their own.

So my quesitons is, what can we expect next from our friends at Linden Labs.

I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, but what scares me the most is i don't know how many feet a Linden has??

More harm has been done to Second Life in the name of these adult content changes than has been done in the past three years by other problems created by Linden Labs with server and viewer releases.

Can we also point out that they still have not explained ot the general membership why they are being pushed into a new viewer?

Regards

I feel sorry for noobs who have just downloaded the latest client. I'm staying with the 1.22 version for now until it is fixed... Can't believe they rushed this through so fast without testing it properly...

I keep saying it, but this is exactly the reason I never download a release candidate. I let others test the software first for awhile. I wait until I hear from friends that the major bugs are removed.

1.23 isn't a release candidate and neither is server 1.26.4

I know people that are very computer literate taking days to adjust this new viewer just os they can use it properly.

What will the average noob do??

The interesting thing is the wonderful Lindens refuse to even admit there is a bug. Sort of like the Monty Python dead Parrot skit:

Customer: There is a bug in your latest server software.
Linden: No no it is your Scripts, you ahve way to many of them.
Customer: No there is a bug in your server software, I checked it on another sim and they have hardly any scripts.
Linden: NO no it is your MegaPrims.
Customer: There are no megaPrims.
Linden: No no sorry it is your avatars, they are too script heavy.
Customer: There is a bug in your server software, we tested with 4 avatars with 2 or less attachments.
Linden: No no it is mmm err aa it just needs a restart. By the way can we interest you in a shiny new Homestead?

I am wondering how these other viewers will work after they turn on all the adult verification stuff.

If you read the sldev list, they're in denial about the new viewer too.

Somebody mentioned somewhere, I can't recall who, that you may have to use the official force fed viewer once, to set your preferences, but then you can use an alternate viewer just like before. Maybe Boy Lane will turn up to weigh in on this.

that was obvious when they released it as production version.

All rushed out to deal with adult content changes with no thought to all the bugs

I find it amazing the ims i am getting with sim owners telling the different excuses lindens have given them for the freezing in their sims.
It seems clear the lindens wish to find any excuse NOT to admit this is a bug.

the unfortunate thing is, I hear the lindens now know this and are attempting to plug it to force people to version 1.23

Luckily LL can't plug a drain with a rubber stopper let alone that.

Didn't a Linden say that after a certain point, older viewers (than 1.23) will simply stop working?
