Keira and Pep, I stand corrected. That's what you get when you use google to confirm spelling :(

If the current number of Scarlett Letters on display is any measure then I think "2 to 4%" was being generous. Had no trouble finding smiley faces. Scarlett 'A's on the other hand would make for a fine treasure hunt.
That's one of the problems: only a small percentage of those aware of what the changes mean will put up the scarlet letters. And only a small percentage of those who will be affected are aware of the big truck bearing down on them.

This is also a problem for what would otherwise be the best response to this nonsense: residents simply making everything Adult by any possible definition, leaving the Mainland for the tier-discounted educationals and basket case non-profits too impoverished to have their own private sims, and thereby making the "adult" restriction no restriction at all because practically every account will get "adult" qualified. This can't work, of course, because it would require coordinated effort among those affected--the vast majority of whom have no idea what's coming.

Protest? No use.

Once the gods decided something, you can't change it. We've tried it. During the openspace price increase. We protest.

Some guys even fly the Linden finger flag. You know, that Linden hand with only middle finger pointing. They show that finger to linden. But they didn't realize that we are the one who receive it.

It will be the same this time.

There is a long history of protests and the resulting change by LL. Of course this was back in the early days of SL. When they imposed a tax on prims (for example).

This "Making of SL" book is informative.

I was more commenting on the

than on the possibility that any protest on this particular action would have any impact on SL.

Since LL has changed their policies after some protests in the past.

I do not understand how this will effect me. I own private land on the mainland. I do have poses that would be considered adult. Only my partner and I have access to them. We have a security system. Our windows are dark. Of course, anyone can move their camera to see anything and everything. The land around the house is open to the public and pg. We do require age verification and pay info to get access. We do not advertise. Will we have to move?

A picture of my "A" decorating the platform above my skybox BSD Arch House. Thanks again, Lin. I'm the little blue dot on the edge..Jackie

What is the height above which objects don't show on maps? My "A" is located about 530 meters up. Should it show on the map? Jackie

Show the Lindens what "2 to 4%" means.

Join the group *I* Am Adult Content. Look back in the group notices for the one about the "Scarlet Letter" signs. Keep the attachment.

You'll get an assortment of big red "A"s on a big white background. Big enough to be seen from orbit, on the Map.

Rez the biggest one you can fit on your parcel. Loft it up to about 300 meters, above the cloud layer.

While you are at it, check out the Mature section of XStreet and get the freebie *I* Am Adult Content t-shirt. Wear it with pride!

Come on, people. You have Adult Content. You want to keep it. Cover the landscape in Scarlet Letters. Be proud of your Adult status

I'm convinced that your cause is a noble one, Lindal (et al). And I suppose I could stand behind you on this issue, even though I have no horse in this particular race, and don't understand it 100% anyway.

However, I'm afraid I can't join your group - simply because I'm a child avatar, so it wouldn't really be appropriate. But yeah, support and all that.

If you are in a PG sim, you were not supposed to have that stuff anyway. The sexxies, even in your own home, was forbidden in PG sims.

Cody, LL has given some VERY mixed signals re. child avatars and the new ratings. At one point, they said that a child av could (if account verified) go to Adult areas (and, presumably, be exposed to adult content.)

Marianne has been keeping closer watch on this than I have, and you should talk to her.

As for the Scarlet Letters, they've been re-posted to the *I* Am Adult Content group notice archives. Anyone who wants to can join the group (and leave again, after getting your Letters, if that's what you want.)

I (and probably a bunch of others) left the group because of the chat chatter and the current inability to selectively receive group chat.

btw - my sign did not show up on todays map (at least not when I checked last) but I did see a large sign that says S-E-X but appears to have been either deliberatly censored or partly hidden by mistake. I hope the latter.

Oh - and when is Street View coming to SL ? :)

I can't seem to find the red A...

I probably have it in my inventory somewhere. I was in the group, but it was a bit. . .chatty, so I left it.

I think the group IM chat has finally been turned off, so will probably join it again.

See the blog entry on the website home page.

Everyone is appalled. The "new and improved" definitions are a lot more sweeping than even the previous "draft" definitions. There is now very little difference between PG and Mature. Everything from a nude photo on your wall on up is considered "adult". Also, it's not just businesses that are affected. It appears that ALL content will be judged.

I just read the new definitions last night.

I have a burlesque club. When I read the definition of Adult, I thought, that covers our club. Photorealistic nudity. That means photorealistic nude skins, right? We are adult.

Then, under Mature, a burlesque club is given as an example of what would be Mature and not Adult.

Do the Lindens who write this stuff actually think about it before posting it?

I recommend not doing this Scarlet Letter protest. It will backfire.

You are not going to get 100% participation. You will have far less. Despite your best efforts, it just isn't possible in Second Life to spread the word about something grassroots style. Plus, you will have many people who do hear about it, but because they guess (correctly) that it won't make a darn bit of difference to Linden Lab, they won't make the effort to participate.

So what is your downside? If your campaign seriously under-reports the quantity of adult establishments, Linden Lab will use that as proof that their 2% - 4% estimate was on target or even over-estimating the true number of adult establishments. They will say, "Look at this well-organized campaign that marked all the adult establishments for us. It proves how few there are."

Playing Don Quixote doesn't help. Linden Lab is going to do what it wants to do. After doing all you could in good-faith to express your concerns by participating in the sham "discussions," there is nothing left to do but let them destroy the businesses in which you have invested your money- based on the promises that you can make "real money" and the grid as it existed when you entered- and then sue them for causing you to invest your money in the SL economy under false pretenses.

If it won't help, then at least it won't hurt.

LL will do what it will do. I for one will thumb my nose at them and scream, "I told you so, I told you so!" as the debacle unfolds.

My "A" flies proudly.

Besides, if I recall, Don Quixote DID make a difference, in the end.

Since I don't have land, can I attach mine to the top of my head and stand in one place for a long time?

Mine can be seen somewhere around:

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Basenville/10/242/720/

Feel free to have a seat and enjoy the view! My work platform and cottage are 200 meters below it, but that area is protected by a security orb with a 30M radius, so be careful! I wouldn't want anyone to be accidentally ejected. Jackie

PS I think it's too high to show up on a map, right?

Love, if you want to store it on one of my little parcels you can put it at

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Falcaria/208/136/xxx/

I have a house at 1024M protected by an orb that scans out to 96M. You can put it below or above that if you want (10x10 size). I think the prim count will handle it :-) I manually clean out anything left by others on a regular basis but I'll keep an eye out for it if you do. it's not the best neighborhood but there is a good view from my park bench at ground level.
