I just found out accidentally, that in a random group (it can be any group because I tried it) I can set myself as an owner, and gain complete control over the group. It even lists me as an owner. Group owners be aware, your members may very well be able to take over ownership of your group with whatever data base glitch that is causing this. I am going to put in a report to the lindens not sure they know about this.

I am not a premium account holder. I can't seem to figure out how to do a support ticket, they say not allowed unless I have a premium account. Anyone have any suggestions?

any group?
I think the group you tried had the roles messed up so anyone could do anything.

Yeah, it sound like someone didn't know how to set up Roles within the group to prevent this from happening.

I tried a hostile takeover of a friend's group, and it didn't work, so either group roles are messed up for the group you just tried, or the glitch only applies to some groups and not all. You should be able to file some sort of support ticket as a basic member, but I don't know where you would go to do that. You should definitely IM the owner of the group that was affected though, to let them know about the issue.

Sounds more like the group owner doesn't know what they're doing, although it could be a glitch, I can't rez any objects in a certain sim at the moment so maybe there's some scary borkiness going down.

I picked 4 random groups on search it let me allow to assign myself as owner on every single one of them, and I wasn't a member of those groups until I joined them at that moment. I of course removed myself as owner and left those groups

I joined 4 groups I have never belonged to as a regular member with no rights. But all buttons were available allowing me to assign the role of owner to myself. I hit apply, got the pop up about adding ownership abilities to myself, then hit ok, Went back in, refreshed the groups, and I was listed as an owner and had full abilities. Mind you, I seem to have full abilities when I am just a regular member too.

It only works or showed that ability when I was in advanced view Admin status.

I just looked up your profile. I clicked and joined one of your groups. See if it lists me as an owner to you.

when i looked at my group Chevonne was listed as an everyone.. when she tried to send a notice she couldnt. So it seems that its only on her viewer that she is owner.

It might be session specific anyway did a Live Chat and it appears to be a bug. Did not try to abuse and powers of the groups I am part of but do not own.

With Admin Options on, my alt could assign herself as Owner of our group and after hitting Apply, closing the window and re-opening it, she still saw herself as an owner. However, I pulled up the group info and did not see her as an owner. I then rezzed a box and she could not return it. She relogged and no longer saw herself as an owner of the group.

The above was all using the 1.21 version of the SL viewer.

In other words, it is much like seeing the extra buttons for Freeze/Ban etc., in your profile while Admin status is enabled, but having no actual function beyond your normal capabilities.

Hmm...so how to prevent this? (Sorry if that's been explained already - bit tired today.)

I had another question about groups.

My group is showing me as the only member in search. Why is that? Do I need to change a setting or something.

I don't want people not to join because they think the group is empty or everyone left it. :-O The more members, the better this group might be.

I *think* this is controlled on the Roles tab - click the Everyone role and in the lower left is a box "Members are visible" - click that.
