My avatar looks about 80, has slimey greasy long grey hair, big grey handle bar moustache and has more wrinkles than a cold testicular sack. I got fed up with all the 'loose' women coming on to me when I had a normal looking Av so by creating an AV that repulses women (and men) I get left alone.
Obvioulsy I am goooooorgeous in RL so no my av has no similarities to my RL appearance.

I have quite a few avatars, but slip back into a reg skin in general areas hee I'd really rather not go shopping or be in some general area as a giant snow tree etc.

From: Imnotgoing Sideways The ones that bother me are the "normal" ones. What's with them? I mean, why be so hung up on reality that you can't live out a little fantasy when given the option? (^_^)y ^ Exactly. I understand the idea of "perfect" human avatars, but even most of those are pretty ordinary, in a world of infinite possibilities. EDIT: I didn't mean to imply that I have any problem with human avatars. If you want to have an avatar with an ideal body, humorous appearance, or one that looks like you in real life, I think that's a great means of expression and can be a lovely art form. I just don't do it myself. Live and let live and all that. Myself, I don't have any human avatars, aside from the library ones, and one or two silly cartoon character ones that were freebies that made me laugh. I haven't worn them in months though. I'm always some variety of animal, of varying levels of fantasy. I don't usually get asked about my choice of appearance since most of the time the people around me are non-human themselves, or are so surprised/amused by my look that they don't bother asking. The only time I've had anyone really be surprised or confused by my avatar was when I attended a speech on autism the other day, and showed up as a large quadrupedal dragon. I did this on purpose, as I had been to the location before and knew it was an ordinary "human style build" (A big fancy house. Very upscale in real life, common sight in SL) and likely to be attended mostly by humans, and I'm weird that way (and I had a point to make, more on that later). So I waltzed through the front door and sat my scaley blue self down on the floor next to the theater seats in the meeting room, and listened politely to the lecture like it was perfectly normal for a huge blue and green dragon with body paint to attend a psychologist's lecture. I was the only non-human there that wasn't a greifer. I got several nice comments on my avatar, which I enjoyed since I created it myself. FYI, the point I was making was that while it's true that many people with autism like sane, safe realism and non-fiction, there are also those that prefer to escape the real world, entertain special interests, or just find realism to be boring in a virtual context. I was invited to these lectures because I have autism myself, and I intend to show up with a different avatar of my own creation at each one

I am me. Tried to make my ava look like me, but she turned to be way too gorgeous...and I'm keeping it!!!! It is me after all. Or not. Or is.
Body is pretty much the same thou, I just have more facial wrinkles at this age...I don't care. My fantasy in SL is to always look like I did when I was younger.
Now that I have read this, I think I might get bored to be human...I will try something else soon.

From: Imnotgoing Sideways The ones that bother me are the "normal" ones. What's with them? I mean, why be so hung up on reality that you can't live out a little fantasy when given the option? (^_^)y Ahh but most of them are living out their fantasies. Many probably don't look or are built the same in their RL lives. I don't look ANYTHING like my main avatar, and I'm sure I get regarded because it's of some gawky balding guy. But although it's humanOID, my persona has been of a hologram for the past 8-9 years. Back when Privateer had its space station, someone was surprised that I didn't stick to convention and don an environmental suit. There are some nonhuman types which irritate me, but only because there's a whole UNCONVINCING personality "required" for the look. When they go the whole nine yards, it just has the opposite effect on me. I can't buy it. But there are plenty of human ones as well, and anyone can point at them and say "so what's the deal, miz or mister dime-a-dozen-hohum?" I don't think anyone is capable of shocking me with their avatar. Lag or crash maybe, hurt my eyes maybe... I think though in the end, it's just the novelty of being in a virtual environment that many people come for, so they never get around to pushing the envelope with self expression.
