And no, I don't plan to go nude.

I'd like to know how to disable specific clothing items from my permanent inventory. How do I do that (if it's possible)?

As my avatar is known as "The Barefoot Babe", I'd like to disable my shoes. I know how to delete them from my inventory, but if I could remove them from my fixed inventory (the inventory I had when I first joined). Disable means to remove them permanently from your fixed inventory and enable means to bring them back.

Use a restrained life compatable viewer and make an attachment that sends the commands to prevent wearing shoes (and socks?) and attaching to the feet.

If you can't script send me a notecard in world (my IMs get capped) and I'll make one for you, keep in mind, this ONLY works with restrained life enabled viewers.

We can't delete items from the Library in our Inventory. We all have that stuff forever.

It's not so much a problem with socks, as I have toenail polish and they function as socks. I will send you a notecard in world. And what is a restrained life enabled viewer?

You can stop seeing the entire Library in your inventory window by setting the "NoInventoryLibrary" debug setting to True. Then you won't have any shoes. :)

To get at the debug settings, Ctrl+Alt+D to enable the Advanced menu and see the line "Debug Settings" in it.

So if I don't see the library, I can still see the other inventory items. Correct?

Jeez. I was only trying to answer your question. Why does it matter whether there are shoes in your Library? You don't have to wear them. No one else can see your Inventory.

Yes. Saves a little on inventory download times and total inventory count, and prevents you from getting inventory search results from the library, which is handy if you know you aren't likely to need anything from there anytime soon.

it matters because she has some irrational fixation to not be able to click on shoes in her inventory.

Weirdness.

Why can you simply just not wear any shoes instead of going through all this extra stuff.

It is really really simple. If you do not want to wear shoes. Then do not wear shoes.

It is not like they will accidentally find their way on to your feet.

And by not wearing shoes you miss out on really cool shoes that have toes, like J's, which are like ultra-realistic.

Now all you need is to be SL preggers and in the kitchen. :D

Let people have their fixations, rational or no, and they'll let you have yours... and if they won't, you have the advantage of being righteous when tearing into them.

Though, I suspect it is because she uses the drag-and-drop-on-avatar method for dressing, and this can quickly get annoying when you drag the wrong folder and it contains something you don't want to wear but can't get rid of. All the more reasons to dress by rightclick on folder and 'add to outfit' rather than drag-and-drop, saves clicks and precise mouse positioning.

Isn't it a case of the library items aren't actually in our own inventories but links to the main one ... or something like that I was led to understand long ago. Hence the reason we can't delete them.

That is indeed the case. You can only get rid of the entire library folder as I described above.

I have a "fixation" because in RL, I am autistic. And many autistic individuals do have unusual habits, in SL or RL. Many such individuals do have things "custom-made" to their "abnormal" desire. In RL, I do wear shoes; in SL, I don't wear them. And if I choose not to wear them in SL, then it's my prerogative (not sure how many R's that word has, so clarify my spelling please).

BTW, I do have RL fixations also. Like game shows, Canadian currency, and certain foods. I especially enjoy watching "Press Your Luck" on GSN, though.

Just for info, you can also disable it by adding '-noinvlib' to the end of the login shortcut.

Well, I think this thread has served its purpose. I got my answers, and now I think it's time for this thread to be locked.

Mods, please do the honours. ;)

Thanks for the help, Drifter. I did exactly that. Now to continue enjoying my barefoot freedom in SL.

I guess I am a bit confused as to why it matters if there are shoes showing in the inventory since they will not show on your avatar unless you wear them. Are you saying that in order to fully satisfy this fixation/obsession/desire/xxx you need to completely eliminate all shoes from any and all views? That is perfectly valid, I was just curious as some of your posts seemed to indicate that you did not want to chance seeing them anyone and other posts simply indicated that you did not want to wear any shoes.

What is this thing with OPs requesting a thread be locked simply because they have received answers sufficient to their wants? Many of the threads here get secondary questions that are sort of a continuation or slight deviation of the original question. Therefore if we are not dealing with a timeframe that would be necroposting, it is much better (in my opinion) to simply continue the original discussion, expanding on it, drilling deeper into areas of it, etc...

Plus there is always the chance to hijack it, derail it and turn it into a never ending thread.
Please let’s continue. So how do you feel about seeing panties in your inventory? :D

If indeed this is the case, a solution would seem to be to copy the entire avatar folder to one's own inventory, then delete the shoes from it there and only ever use that modified folder.

Either way, I'll let others get into the discussion if they want to continue the topic. I'm done with this thread and will be unsubscribing now.

And for the record, everyone has their own preferences. That's what makes all of us so unique, and we respect each other for whatever they do or whoever they are.

That said, I am vowing never to mention anything about shoes, feet, or anything I do that is seen as a "fixation" to other users in the future. I am also changing my custom user title to the default "Registered User" after I make this edit.

I think I need a much-needed vacation from these boards. I seem to ask a lot of questions - I asked questions to get answers, and I got the answers. Forums are meant only for asking questions when necessary, and to ask so many questions in a matter of a two week period is a bit much.

I will only return to these forums when I have something legitimate to ask, or if I can give legitimate answers to anyone who asks questions and I really know the answer.
