For the price we be charged in Japan around 700.00 US Monies. The "i" is More like a "!" saying i can buy 2 to 3 cellphones high end for the same price out here. Beside the provider is weak out here that going to sell it here.

$770 bucks for a cell phone. Puhleaze! I had to justify to myself spending $49 for a phone I hardly use and resides permanently in my car.

Well the tech nerdies will buy it out here. But Just like all none japanese brand cellphones, the amount sold is less then 1%. the exchange rate boosts the price to about 700.00 us

LOL! Me too!

Just wait till they want to have the battery replaced, need to cough up $80 then wait 3 days. Of course they'll send you a "loaner iPhone" for an extra $30. :p

ive just ordered the iPhone 2....it sounds like it has some cool features...and unlimited web access....got to wait till July 12th before i get my mitts on it though boooo :(

I dont know if its a *fashion statement* or not...i just liked it, good enough reason to buy it i guess!

I heard that the new iphone will be subsidized so you pay like 250 for it. It has a really expensive phone plan though. You can pretty much connect to the internet all the time with it. They are also creating an app store where any developer can give away or sell applications for the iphone. I wonder if they can make an SL client for it.

Or, you could get an iPod Touch for a bit more upfront cost. You're limited to wifi hotspots, though. I'm typing this on my iPod right now. :-)

I did a "Chaos" there before an ran SL on one of their Mac Minis. I was looking for a new primary machine, and checking that SL ran well on it was a selling point.

Sad, innit?

I'll be getting the new iPhone too. That's how I stumbled across this old thread. I was searching around to see if there was any talk of a text-only SL client for the iPhone. That would be seriously useful! I'll be waiting cash in hand to whoever gets there first. But then there will be a trust issue with me having to give up my username/password, which means an open-source effort would be nice.

When I watched the keynote for the original iPhone I thought it was excellent. But ultimately I was put off by the lack of third party apps so didn't buy one.

That's being addressed, finally! So I'm jumping on the bandwaggon in July.

I was really disappointed that it still comes with 16gb though. I would of paid a premium for a 32gb iPhone. I guess Apple don't have their hands on 32gb chips yet (the 32gb iPod Touch uses two 16gb chips, and the iPhone only has room for one chip).

There's so much momentum behind the iPhone SDK! Can't wait to see the software that comes out for it. With an SL client though, it won't be able to run in the background. So whenever a call comes in or you need to switch to a different app you'll be logged out of SL. Apple have come up with a new event system of their own to try to sidestep this problem but it still means you'll log out the second the iPhone tries to do anything else. I have mixed feelings about this.
