I cannot conceive of a business in California being less progressive than us hicks in Tennessee.

More progressive, probably not. Crazier, definitely.

Jig, in case you were feeling personally persecuted:

Get hold of Carl Metropolitan, and chat with him about this maybe.

It wouldn't be the first time someone was surprised with Tennessee and it's progression hehehehehe ;)
howdy neighbor i'm just south of you north of the bama border :D

Ahh - I lost this thread for a day until Scylla posted.

Glad to hear someone else is in Tennessee in SL. I was beginning to think I was the only one. So you are probably familiar with the Musica sculpture. I pass it every day and find it inspiring.

Scylla, I think Carl was on PG land in Kuula, while Jig was asking about Mature land. Jig wouldn't have the same problem. Yes, LL is being a bit silly to Carl, but that's a separate issue.

Yes, you are quite right. Although Jig WAS in fact herself ARed for art she had in a PG area, so it is not entirely irrelevant.

If you look at the description of his Museum of SL Art in Caledon it has a nipple count. :p

I won't repeat the above sensible posts (EDIT: except one). I'll just add that if you do put your gallery back up on mature land, some moron will surely AR you at some point. Do yourself a favour and don't freak like you did last time a Linden got involved. Just because they're dealing with an AR doesn't mean they'll find fault.

Yeah I freaked - coz it wasnt porn and coz it was like a personal slap. I know this will tick some peopel off but I'm not used to being warned about what I do by anyone. It was only the idea that I wouldnt speak to hal again that kept my finger off the "goodbye button". I spent a few thousand on the land and the tiers and the art. Truth be told hal and I have sold and are selling most of our land holdings and shutting it all down. They did find fault; I didnt want to be kicked out so I went along with the whole deal. I jacked about 230 artworks that would have been part of a general population art museum and a kinda record of artists in sl since I got here.

Advice seems to dither here - put the art up or abandon it.
I think I'm gonna abandon it and just leave what I had up and that wasnt bodies or suggestive.
Maybe, we'll move to Zindra.

Oh pfft Jig. You would be back in a heart beat.

Hmmm prolly not - the real "me" has invested too much time and reality into "Jig" to be someone else in sl.

I must say I do find the sl "landscape" a very constricting one in terms of art. Sure we can put up nudes in Adult or mature but for the most part these are really sleazy places. I can't imagine MoMA or Tate relishing the idea in a real situation of gallerying in a place like that.
It's evidently an issue rooted in the moralities of the country from which sl originates. Nudes are too "tempting" - Eve bites back, I guess.
Thank you for all your comments - I am reading each one as it is posted.

Wait, what? Mature sims are sleazy?

As of recently, Mature sims make up 68% of mainland, 81% of private estates, and 78% of SL overall by area. In Second Life, Mature land is mainstream, even though in fact, only a very small fraction of the Mature-rated land area actually has mature content.

I'm mystified why you'd think it unsuitable for a gallery.

No I really meant the move to Zindra - I was just tired. Zindra is sleazy. reminds me a bit of Charing Cross or Leicester Square with lotsa men using ties as belts.

Yeah, me too. If anyone knows of pleasant sims on Zindra I'd be interested to see.

Hey Jig here's an idea: put up all, or a representative sampling, of your art. Invite cartel folks by for a showing at two specific one-hour slots (I know you gave out LMs before, but we're a social crowd - more likely to show up if others will be there). And, of course, invite whoever else you want. We'll invite SLUers as well, and maybe we can rope in an incognito Linden. Anywho, we'll look at it. Then leave it up. If anyone ARs it, those of us who think it's all OK (I think that will be the majority of viewers) can then snow under whatever Linden is assigned to the AR with protest.

Be sure to have a music stream up that you like as well.

I like the idea but it is a bit of a risk. I dont think Lindens are as democratic or as artistically inclined as you might think. And it only needs one whack-job to make the whole thing unpleasant. I think that time I "got done" by a vigilante and Hal noticed someone kept returning to that small "side gallery". But I think I may have an opening night one of these days in not to distant future.
