I did't see Sansara on the list.

Marianne, Sansara is not a continent. It is a country located near Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is located on the Asian continent. So therefore, the continent you are from is Asia.

ok, i guess i have to clarify the background behind this poll...
according to my data the number of "users online" rises and drops regularly. but: the "turning points" are noon GERMAN TIME and 11pm GERMAN TIME! or in other words, the number of users online starts to DROP at around 2pm linden time, until around 3am LINDEN time, then it starts to rise again... If the whole thing wasnt so global I'd be tempted to say the majority of users is from europe and online during the afternoon and evening... I just cant figure out how the afternoon/evening american time can be the time with the lowest login numbers. oh and btw the data for this graph is directly from LL, they serve a xml file through their webserver that i'm parsing. |

My home got the number 127.0.0.1
Can't find that in the list of continents. Anyone can help me to check the correct answer? _____________________

i think the poll is doomed to failure.
supposedly a large number of resis are made up of latin americans, and they largely dont post here (and thus dont address the poll). i reckon a large number of spanish or asian-speaking resis are off elsewhere in 'regional' communities. _____________________

I can't even pronounce Jeogeot.
I see no entries for Corsica, Nautilus, or Gaeta either. _____________________

good thinking, actually...
this whole thing would be totally unnecessary if LL would still publish those "key metrics" somewhere... |

The number you see for users online is kinda sketchy at best. There's at least an hour "cache" time on it - and I wouldn't be surprised that when there are more users online, the cache time is even longer (to reduce server load). I haven't analyzed it much, but... these numbers that we see definitely aren't "live"...

I just cant figure out how the afternoon/evening american time can be the time with the lowest login numbers. oh and btw the data for this graph is directly from LL, they serve a xml file through their webserver that i'm parsing. Consistently the lowest logins are at midnight - 1am SLT which is around 8-9am GMT. The most of the USA has gone to bed, the europeans are just getting into the day and the Asia/pacific area are getting home from work. It then slowly rises until around 6 - 7am SLT (4-5pm GMT) then (I assume) as the Europeans finish dinner/get home from work etc and the west coast usa begin to wake up it begins to increase until we get to around 10pm GMT (2pm SLT) when the Europeans begin to go to bed. now to the semi off topic stuff.. barring SL hitches it's been as regular as this for years and interestingly the numbers really haven't dropped as much as expected lately - between the northern summer and the clampdown on bots we should have seen a quite reasonable fall but it hasn't happened. I use this http://etitsup.com/slstats/concurrency/ because it gives the 4 week as well as 24 hrs. I saw some stats on usage of secondlife.com & xstreetsl.com and from memory it appears a very large proportion of users of both sites are women and across both genders have an above average number of children for people who use the internet and I think the split between US and the rest of the world was pretty even (don't quote me on that though). and do you think I bookmarked those links? nope. Have I been trying to find them again? yep. They were incredibly telling for socio-economic and educational details too. Although I never did do the digging to find out just how they knew that.. I was going to go back later but of course didn't bookmark the things ![]() _____________________

It's a numbat, the state animal of Western Australia. It eats white ants for a living. Cute little beggars.

I do not know how to read the chart. I'll point out that people log in whenever they can and it is not necessarily tied to when you'd "expect" someone to log in. For example, the last few nights I keep running into two British people who, eventually, wave bye and note they are going to sleep now at 5 am their time. I think that I myself logged off somewhere around 2 am my time. I am never in world during the afternoon during the work week unless I'm home that day, and even then it is rare. I'm never in world noon. Almost always in world 11pm. Noon German time is around 7pm Korean time, also (roughly eveing-time China/eastern Asia; roughy 8 pm Australian time). Why are you assuming it is Germans in there? |

I think SL tends to be something that maybe people log into after work for a bit and/or for a bit before heading to RL bed. I've noticed that traffic seems to come in waves, usually a bit before when day-job types in various time zones would likely be calling it a day..

The Asian guy is especially interesting in that our clocks are 180 degrees out of phase. _____________________
