Is it just me or is anyone else having trouble with the emerald viewer?

I mean i use LL viewer and emerald but when i go to use emerald viewer all my stuff doesn't show, all my folders are empty there for have no arrows so i can open them. Yet if i login the LL viewer all my stuff is there.

Ive cleared cashe on both and no change and i have the up to date version of emerald.

Any one know what mite the problem?

As much as I like some of Emerald's built in features, I went back to Snowglobe last night and probably permanently other that the occasional Emerald login for uploading temp textures. For some reason, Emerald's performance has gotten worse and worse for me over the past couple of days. Additionally, yesterday textures started getting whacked for me. I even relogged and rebooted my computer and the textures in question were still totally screwed up when I came back in --- I was reluctant to clear cache except as a last resort because my inventory is huge and therefore takes forever to reload. In any case, I TPd a friend over to look at the floor - just to make sure it was my view and not a server corruption of the texture map. I then finally relogged but logged back in with Snowglobe and the floor and inventory textures were perfectly fine again. That combined with the really bad rez times, performance overall of the last two days, and the random lockups with crashes has pretty much got me giving up on Emerald for a while.

All of my problems are with the 950 version. Before the last server rollout, I was only having the freeze/crash problem when I did lots of camming and picture taking, though I did rarely have individual texture maps go black on me. I tried the latest version but that one crashed me many times an hour. It has just been the last few days, since the latest server rollout, that the 950 version has seemed to have gone totally crazy on me.

The 950 version was ALWAYS like that for me. The latest version is running well for me so far, the only problem I have is it keeps turning voice chat on when I login.

I think most of these problems are just SL itself. It works great one day then is totoal fail the next. If yo upgrade the viewer, then SL is sucking your inventory will be hosed but then switching back to another viewer that already has your inventory cached it seems to be "working".

THe mrer fact that the problems (of that nature) seem sto jucst be totoaly random lead it to being something not actually with the viewer at all.

The only problem I have with emerald right now at all is the failure to beable to maintain a camera lock :/

Stacy, I think the fix to your problem is to locate where Emerald keeps its cache (it's now in a different place to the one in the normal viewer -- look in Edit-Preferences-Network and it well you), log out, delete the whole contents of that directory and relog. This forces it to download your inventory from the server again, and rebuild it. It will take some time to rebuild itself, so be patient.

I've gone back to Snowglobe too. Emerald's corrupted textures are just too much of a pain. There's certain textures that Emerald will screw up three out of four times. I've had textures corrupted right after clearing cache completely (deleting the cache directory), so it's not just a cache problem.

Which version of Snowglobe are you Snowglobe users using?

I'm staying up to date, whatever the latest is when there's a new announcement on the SLDEV list.

I use both the regular LL viewer and Emerald........both the latest releases. I have almost no problems ever with either.........I say almost only because because sometimes my inventory problems (or other minor annoyances) occur on both. If problems showed up like inventory not loading I would do the one letter at a time search and go about whatever I wanted to do (except maybe changing clothes) and come back to the inventory later.........it would be all loaded and ready for use after anywhere from 5 to 30 mins later.

One thing that I do that might be the reason I have so few problems relating to inventory, crashes, not being able to tp, upload, and many of the other problems people seem to have in SL is that I clear my cache before every starting to the game. My method is that when I get to the log in screen the first thing I do is to open preferrences and hit the clear cache button so that the next time I launch SL my cache will be cleared.........I start with a cleared cache everytime I load the game that way. Yes, it takes a few extra minutes to get everything rezzed and I'm often a mist cloud for a couple minutes......but I don't have the problems other people seem to have. My computer is not some gamer rig either.....just an off the shelf, 2 year old Lenovo desktop with a large power supply and 9800GTX+ nVidia card in it (both installed by myself after I purchased this computer). I also don't update my video driver unless there's good reason to do so.........not just because it's the latest.

I think it's just SL being Bjorked by the Xmas ISP rush, kids are hitting the net enmass and hogging every bit of bandwidth, even the forums are chunky, I can type 20 words before they show, yet all works fine on other sites.
Maybe it's not worth logging in til February :)

I use Snowglobe, latest release (not latest build), and Emerald's pre-950 release (677?). 950 was over my threshold for dubious bugs.

I pointed emerald at a different cache folder before logging in after install, and have not had any cache problems. I only clear cache when forced to. My largest inventory is, I think, 18K.

I'm not having any problems with Emerald (which I think is the latest version) or SL 1.22.

OP, something you might wanna check out is under preferences, network. Make sure the maximum bandwidth isn't set below 500. I had it default to 50.. can we say, "HOURS to rezz?"

This happened to me last night, and this trick didn't work (not sure why). I tried using the Clear Cache button AND manually deleting the caches files, but to no avail. I had to create a new Emerald Cache folder, then log in and redirect my viewer to point to that folder in the Cache preferences, then relog. When I did all that, it repopulated my inventory from scratch.

Yes, this is what you have to do. Note that you can change the Cache preferences in Edit/Preferences on the login screen before you log in any avatar, which makes it a little faster.

Also, if Emerald and another viewer previously shared a cache, you should delete that cache and crank up the other viewer, just to eliminate any lingering corruption.

ETA: The Emerald developers, btw, say that they fixed the problem that made Emerald not share caches with other viewers well, and I haven't seen the problem personally, because I set it to have a different cache anyway. However, I still see people reporting what sounds like the 'shared cache' bug - don't know if its leftover kruft from earlier installs or what.

I've been thinking of starting up a collection of snapshots of people using the Emerald viewer wearing stuff in embarrassing locations. Anyone up for this? :D

I've been using Emerald for a while now and have had nothing bad to say about it, and I will continue to use it. I'm using 1.23.5 (950). I had a really bad crash due to trying to run too many high memory apps on my PC at once, and that's what precipitated this problem, I'm sure.

We could probably get a large collection quickly. I have had groups telling members to go get the Emerald viewer because they get the extra attachment points -- and I am pretty sure that the vast majority have no clue that others do not see things attached the way they do.
