Houses out in the middle of nowhere, have you ever went inside?

I just joined, but I do admit I see some cool places every now and then with the doors open.. peoples mansions and such.. am I not the only one guilty of exploring peoples houses while they are away? :) Just to see the decor?

If the doors are unlocked and nobody's home... I can't resist. (^_^)y

I used to do that sort of thing as a newbie. You do risk getting ejected and banned. You really have no way of know whether or not people object to it. Some do, others don't mind.

I would of thought if the doors are open and the owners are nowhere to be seen, that maybe they like others to come and browse? When I sort the decor out in mine, I may be tempted to have such an attitude :)

I prefer to display the same respect for people's private spaces in SL as I do in RL.

The questions of ethics and "property" aside, to me it is part of the RP of being in a virtual world where I prefer some basic social rules to exist.

Those houses are not boxes with textures to me, they are homes and I have not been invited there.

That said, I have stumbled into private spaces as a newbie, and in some cases such builds aren't obviously private homes. But if it IS obvious, I don't need a security system to keep me out.

I try to respect people's privacy, and certainly wouldn't traipse about trying out their things. But if no one's home, I might have a look. I've gotten some good decorating ideas that way, and found vendors I like that way also. If the windows are tinted so you can't see in...I take that as a hint though, and go away.

I don't mind if people have a look on my land. I welcome it actually. I'm fumbling around trying to build a pool..etc. Wouldn't mind the suggestions.

If I'm there alone with my boyfriend, maybe I would mind a pop-in. But I wouldn't get all bent out of shape about it. I think most people would understand and move on, or if they are newbie and don't know any better, then I might take that as a teaching opportunity and a chance to welcome them to SL.

I'm snoopy.

I look at profiles. I look into interesting houses, if they aren't locked or guarded by a security system, and I'm not interrupting anybody.

I don't do that too often, these days, though. A matter of time rather than ethics. But when I do, and if it's a really unique or well done build, I'll leave an IM for the owner, saying thanks for the opportunity to visit their lovely place.

I've met several very nice people this way.

Hi Cen, psst, a secret:

<.<

>.>

In the Advanced menu up top, put a check by "Disable Camera Constraints" and uncheck "Limit Select Distance" and, if your Graphics Distance is set long enough, you'll be able to look inside places using your camera without going into them.

Nuuuuu! Nun Uh! Nevah...well I don't just walk in, I might cam around a bit but I would never walk in cause I'm always afraid that I'll get caught.

Which leads me to a memory.... It's been a couple of months since this happened, but there was this really big pretty southern mansion. I knew the resident as the sim owner who lived there. I always wanted to peek inside but never did out of ethics? Morals? But then there was this one time (at band camp) that I could not resist...I cammed in. I poked the bed. Mind you, I was outside camming in, but I poked the bed and out pops these pose balls and the bed is talking out loud and ullllll shit now what? Escape!

The next day there were ban lines encircling the property. I worried and worried for days on end that the sim owner somehow knew that it was me. Now thinking back, I just realize that she saw her poseballs out when she knew that she had tucked them away....or maybe she was in the house and I didn't know it! Then me being outside of the house...busted...crap.

I will look from the outside. But I won't go inside unless I am invited to do so by the owner of the home. If the buld intrigues me, I'll IM the owner and/or drop them a notecard and ask if I may visit and get a tour of the inside. Some owners will bend over backwards to give you a detailed tour. And those that don't want you there will either say so or ignore you, and you just stay out of those.

Yes, I've looked around a few places here and there. Instead of going inside though, I'll usually hover nearby and cam through the place if it's interesting enough and I'm not intruding on anyones business.
I do try to treat peoples places with respect, just like I'd want people to do if they were in my home. I might check a creators name on something, but I'm not gonna go using their stuff, playing on their toyz, or screwing with their radio (Ooh I hate that).

I don't normally wander into peoples' houses, though I don't have any problem with wandering over their land if it's open access.

Sometimes it's not clear whether a place is a house or a public building. My home has my shop and the Egotherapy office downstairs and my apartment above it. I've had occasiponal people wander into my apartment - it doesn't really bother me if they don't make a nuisance of themselves. It's not like it's full of sex poseballs or fetishist apparatus or anything like that, just a regular appartment.

I do look at peoples' profiles quite a lot - that's what they're ther for, isn't it. Also I have been guilty of camming into mysterious looking buildings occasionally, if there's nobody in them.

p.s. Cen, put your post looking for a Monk's Outfit in the "Products Wanted" forum instead of "Shopping" ... no one can respond to posts in "Shopping" (it's for advertising only).

I don't do it often but occasionally you come across a home that has been designed and built with flair. Very rarely go inside but do cam around.

Once wandered around a castle built onto the side of a cliff even being a noob I could see that this wasn't no low Prim cheapo.

Now that I have my own little plot of land and not to sound as though I'm bragging (BUT I AM) I have created what I consider to be a divine and origional home. Then I went and got a a security orb and then realised that no one would get to see it!!!!

Now my door is open and in the covenant is a hello and have a look around.

OK I know that the chances are anyone might have a romp on my bed but I keep my best (and rudest) pose balls in my invent.

People concerned about the privacy of their multipose systems (beds, etc.): be sure to check the owner options menu, many of them have "privacy" settings where you can limit access to the owner or a list of folks.

My little house is half windows, always set clear.

I certainly don’t do it!
But my alt does :D
And camming around if fine, but nothing beats a full inspection. Splash in the pool. Try out the furniture. Rifle through the fridge. You know. Touch stuff.
And since we’re passing out secrets…if the doors are locked all you need to do is cam inside and find something to sit on like a chair…right click and Sit. Voila! You’re inside!
But you didn’t hear that from me. ;)

No, you're not the only one doing this but although you might be new to sl it's no excuse for going where you don't belong. It's people like you that sl's security systems loves feasting on. Just don't use exploring as a cheap excuse and don't bitch as these other "exploring" clowns do when you're sent flying.

I came "home" one day to find a couple of naked people in my bedroom. (I got a pic lol) She asked me to leave them alone. After I ejected them I looked at their profiles...she was an escort. /me wonders how many times she had used my bed to entertain. Also I have a friend whos bedroom was landmarked and passed around to every tom, dick, and noob in SL. needless to say she had lots of company.

But I am calm. You should me when I'm excited.

Seems strange being called dude by a female. You wouldn't happen to be holding out on us, would you? Usually, a certain group of guys use that phrase.

I've said before my RL gender, my friend, and it's also available in-world in my RL section of my profile.

And I personally just find that 'dude' used in that particular usage just makes sense... maybe it's cause the image I have is someone lying in a beach chair, in the middle of an island in an intersection in a big city just kinda...bein' happy. Yeah.....

Dude...calm down ^_^

Some friends of mine found out a female in sl was actually a male because of the word, dude. He 'fessed up later on.

I'm sure females use it too but it's not that common.

In RL I know a girl who uses the word dude in every sentence. She's a teacher in her late 20's and it annoys me.. Dude you can't get a passing grade doing that dude.. (yes she says it twice in a sentence sometimes).

Also, she says it refering to girls, as well as guys. (She calls girls dude too)
