From: Arman Spyker It's certainly nothing compared to the half a million and more Iraqis who lost their lives in Dubya's disgraceful oil-rush. Nothing to celebrate there. Oh yea, i forgot it was a war for oil when i was paying nearly $5/gallon at the pump. Damn, how dare Dubya, steal Iraq's oil and cause us to pay near $5/gal at the pump. DAMN HIM! hakesfist: Is that all anyone has? Dubya? Dubya? Bueller? Bueller?

Okay, now I'm gonna say stuff. First off, I tink Immy is talking specifically about stuff that users can control, as in "why has she had less troubles than those who are sweetness an light." Cuz even though she was grief ARed that one time, there are others who have faced a lot more of 'em an who take a lot less chances than her. Me, I tink it's visual. I tink when people see a more obviously childlike avvie (an yes, for those of you who seem to have troubles with it, lets say a pink frilly dress and a heaping helping of 'ikklespeak'), if they're thinking in a sexual manner, they'll more likely be upset. They see an innocent that is either being corrupted, or could be corrupted. The example above of those shopping for pose balls comes to mind (ick). With Immy, she makes no bones about a sexualized nature in her outfits. I'm not saying that she is doing anyting wrong here, just that her choice of attire is on the edge more often than not (Sorry about asking you to change last night, Immy, but ya - it may have been a bit much for a PG sim). There's not an "innocent" feel to her avatar. It's like a lot of lolis. The outfits and styles are child-like, sure, but the wearers are not so much kids. They dun "read" as kid too much. 'least not to me. I definitely would not mistake Immy's current usual avvie for a child. Apologizes if any of this bugs ya, Immy. As to the mesh – ya, thanks for the leg brace thing. I kinda know kids inworld who did wear leg braces as kids, an cringed a bit on that one. Then again, I've known avvies who are differently abled IRL and who opt to display that inworld too. That is a part of their reality. Are there others who do it "for the lulz," ya – but not all. Me, I hate the mesh, but it's someting we *all* get to live with, no matter what size our avvie happens to be. Oh ya, an forced roleplay. I hear that a lot. I tend to not "force role play." Treat me as a kid, or dun treat me as a kid. I know which I prefer, but that is also why I'll treat a lot of avvies in ways appropriate to their appearance. I'm not going to *force* you to do anyting though. Really, how could I? Also, let's face it, I break the mold plenty, too. How many kids do you know who fly a blimp, or do huuuuge fireworks shows, or roam the world without a lot of supervision? I'm sure there are others who do, but I suspect them to be in the minority (actually, I s'pect you'll find the parents to be more demanding of this than the kids themselves, but that's jes my experience). Hey, at least we dun to th' "Spampire" ting. I should add that a lotta kids make fun about some of the lesser well-done kids, like the ones with heavy makeup, or who are s'posed to be 8 or so an have blingy pacifiers in their mouths, or whatever. Kids can be so cruel. An ya, I use a light smattering of 'ikklespeak' myself. I'm only six, ya know. My speech is getting a bit clearer an stuff, though! The thing is this: I dun tink Immy was asking about meshes, or ikklespeak, or pink dresses, or makeup on skins (what's up with that?), or forced RP. I tink she was more talking about people who accept an avvie as "cute" versus those who assume there is some ill intentions behind it – an why she herself has not had nearly the troubles (even while wearing very provocative outfits on her smaller avvies) as those who might be trying their best to *not* be called pervs. Meanwhile, I'm gonna go back to jes listening a bit, or try to. Mari

Mari.. that was a good post.. You're right on nearly every point about me. Though.. I prefer the word "erotic" over "sexualized" because my choices are not made as any form of sexual intent. Heh... Picky picky, huh? (^_^)
My avatar you saw last night is my biggie and not intended to be kid-like. And... heh... yeah, I'm having fun with outfits lately... Don't apologize for reminding me that I'm pushing PG. Notice... I didn't rebel. (^_^)y

From: Brenda Connolly Brann wins this thread.
Yay, me Sorry you took offense, Mari. I meant nothing derogatory with with leg brace comment. It's just what it looks like to me. I could have said their legs look like noodles. Given a choice, most kid avatars would create/buy shapes that look like average kids instead of having to squash the mesh as small as it'll go. And so, as residents here, it'd be nice if they had that option. As for the wheelchair thing - I have one in SL. It's rather funky. I also have a pogo stick, a bouncy ball and roller skates. I like to zip around in vehicles for the fun of it and, believe me, can manage "worn" vehicles far better than those you sit on. It doesn't mean that I'm trying to make a statement about my RL or SL. Maybe if we were less PC about things like these, they'd be more commonly acceptable as just another part of the scenery and not something to be talked about in hushed voices.

there is no spoon. Its all subjective. As for do's and don'ts, they are overrated, and created by those of influence who would prefer the vivid imaginations of others to be filtered through constraint baffles of their own design.

From: Briana Dawson Ok, i get heated when it comes to Veterans. Maybe i jumped the gun. Maybe.
But what the heck is a avataRIM? it's a new viewer for the Blackberry. The little dances here to justify specific cases of being creeped out really surprise me: in the case of a disabled avatar, or a military one, both the stated offences are second-guesses. You look at the avatar, deduce something about the person behind it, and proceed as if your deduction were fact. Uniform = military fraud. Disability = offence to the disabled. No, sorry, neither of those deductions are any use - to you or to the people you are accusing, so casually, of negative outlooks. What nobody ever does is take the conclusion they have reached, and think up a test to see if it's a good conclusion. There is every chance that if you ask a disabled avatar why they are kitted out that way, that you will get a surprising answer - one that has nothing to do with your deduction. Are you flexible enough to cope with their freedom of expression, or is it your deduction, right or wrong and sod the reality for the other person? There are plenty of other scenarios where an apparent "offence totem" or "inequality marker" produces surface bad reactions - For instance, in my various hangouts lately I have seen a surge in the number of people who change race, and a matching surge in roleplay groups for race play. I am confident that some people will make a fuss about this, because they second guess that the race players are doing it for reasons derogatory to the minority. My only question there is, did you ask 'em first?

/me creeps you out with teh cutenezz! (@_@) ... =^-^= Well, yes, and it can be very creepy. The line can be in everyone else's head but yours, and be just as real, in terms of how it affects you. I am pretty sure that I have been RP'ed by several adults seeking to entrap another adult, by RPing as a child. One of those occasions was actually over a decade ago, on AOL, so I guess the idea isn't exactly new: but the fact that an Avatar can be decorated as a child on SL means that this particular, very nasty game, can be taken to a whole new level. Now, this produces all sorts of problems in dealing with child avs who are NOT RP'ing some abuse scenario (or indeed, mistakenly campaigning in some sex-heavy environment to see if they can "flush out the paedophiles", believing themselves virtuous not malicious): basically, you can't tell whether a conversation is equally innocent on both parties side, until it's too late. Therefore it's my hard and fast rule: do not feed the children. Anything. I know it's my loss and there's an innocence issue too, and the world should not be like that: but my avatar and my interests are basically all too adult for consumption by or interaction with under-age avatars, no matter who or what is driving them.

From: Briana Dawson First, what is an avatarim? And if it is an avatar, why are you adding 3 more letters to the word and does that change the meaning? um... looks at the word avatarim and avatar.... where is the 3rd extra letter (sorry could not resist teasing you about that one) as for the pic posted by 2k the sad part is, that is a person somewhere on this rock we call earth, and they have feelings too (for all we know they might be a mentally challenged person) god knows why their pic is on the net, and I don't want to know how 2K came to find it I wish folks would not post RL pics of people though.... (isn't it against the TOS or does that only apply to people in SL, and putting their RL and SL info together?)

.... Then they show up on forums. (=_=)y
