I keep a very organized inventory. I won't permit myself to go over 5,000 items (just my own self-imposed number) but usually am closer to 3800.
As a previous poster mentioned, I probably only use a fraction of that - I'm seriously thinking of ditching some more things (or boxing them up for six months and if I don't use them...ditch them).

Just over 4K in items

I like to keep my inventory under control, with folders, sub-folders, storeage prims, and note cards. Just about every single one of my full permed textures are stored in palettes, and when I get more, I just copy a palette, change the contents, and rename it to the new texture set. Anything I don't use too offten get put into various crates I make and named to the contents. For mixed items in folders, I use note cards if they are full permed. The big problem with the endless inventory battle that it is getting harder and harder to compress my stuff.

/me Proudly and unashamedly states "71352 items current in inventory, organized, and yes, each and every one of them are needed!" It's a hard road to be a Pack Rat Pixie, but it's my goal. That, and you never know when you might need that flaming rat launcher.

I still only have about 3600, despite having been nearly 2 years in SL. I'm careful to delete stuff I no longer want and some of the stuff I can't quite bring myself to get rid of I've put in boxes. A box only counts as 1 item even if it contains 30. I'm in the process of giving duplicates of my inventory to my fuctionary robot alt, for safe keeping. There's no danger of the robot trying to dress up in my clothes, since it's head/body is a single egg-shaped metal structure and it has no arms either.

Just over 20,000 in my main account's inventory. But for me, a lot of that is textures that I made or that I have purchased, and backups of things I have built for clients. I'm overdue for "weeding", but probably couldn't get below 10,000 items any more if you paid me to.

I am stunned by teh organizational skills of people here. Do you all take some kinda drug or something that helps you to be so organized? Folders, sub-folders, palettes? I am deeply impressed. Why aren't I like this?

I try to keep myself right around the 5,000 mark. If I didn't, I wouldn't be able to find a thing.

I can usually keep it under 10,000. Everything is pretty well organized except for my "Objects" folder and I really need to go through my photo album again and sort them into the right sub-folders. I keep constant watch over landmarks otherwise they multiply and spread like rats. I don't uses boxes for storage expect for one that contain everything I have about someone I thought I knew ... my Drama box .... I just can't bring myself to delete it.

It try to keep it small enough to be able to find what I need and fast. I also have folders, subfolders and such to keep me organized. Peridically I go thru the unneeded items and thow them to the trash.
I have a question about the trash, seems like I have to purge or empty it too. Will that delete the items permanently then and free more space?

I've set 6k as my arbitrary top limit on Inventory items. As soon as I start edging too close to that number, I begin some ruthless housecleaning.
The biggest danger for me has been 7Seas. I'm OCD enough that I wanted one of every single damn fish and my inventory exploded (plus the servers, dock set, acquariums). I finally had to box everything up and just keep my favorites out to play with.

(I seem to recall there's a preference setting for doing this automatically on logout. If so, I don't recommend it. There have been several times I've decided to get something back and hauled it out of the trash.) Emptying Trash does reduce your inventory count. This may improve your teleport and sim crossing performance. It does not, however "free up space" because your inventory isn't actually stored on your computer...or even on LL's computer, exactly. See this thread: /327/b9/273883/1.html

I've done the same thing - boxed up all the fish, leaving just a few out. Considering I haven't done anything with the boxed fish for a month or so, the box may be heading to in world storage now, or over to my alt.

One of my favorite places to shop is office supply stores. I love all the cool organizing boxes and bins and such.

I've gone back over 11,000 items again. I did pick up or buy stuff at SL5B and Relay for Life. And I do keep some demos until I decide to buy or not buy, then they get deleted.
I do have folders, sub-folders, and in a few cases there are sub-sub-folders.
You can always donate transferable stuff to a charity yard sale. Or give to a poorly dressed newbie some good clothing, etc. I have a folder called 'Newbie info & misc' that I keep adding give away items to.
I do try to delete stuff every week, I'll be seeing which LM's are still good next week. I've also started going thru my Photo Album pics, most will go to my disk or be deleted.
I do enjoy sorting stuff and I love clicking 'Empty Trash' or 'Purge Item', lolol.

about 4500, I am very organized I also have 4 backup boxes, 1 as a piece of furniture in my house, 1 in my inventory. 2 on my alts. About once a month I clean up old textures (my stuff) and put the stuff into my storage boxes there are probably about 1000 textures in there at least as well as a copy of anything I have made that I don't need in my active inventory. I have several boxes of things in my inventory that are not unpacked, when I need a megaprim for example, I rez the box, go in there and get the one I want, and copy it to my inventory. At least once a week I stop and sort and yes, I have a LOT of folders But I know where everything is hehe I don't keep clothes I don't wear or things I don't use in my inventory unless it is a no copy no transfer item and I can't store it, and I know I will want/need it at some point.

I no longer feel so bad about my 13k inventory size. All of my regular folders are organized with multiple levels of sub-folders and I periodically add more levels -- for instance I am now creating sub-folders by color under 'gowns' and under 'short casual dresses' because those folders have grown so much. I really do need to spend a bit more time working thru my "to-sort" folder though -- way too much stuff sitting in there.

My alt Rhian bought the whole shebang and set up a fishing area....wow did her inventory start to grow! I have about 11,000 items in my inventory, a lot of them works in progress, but also probably more than half the silent sparrow shop, and loads of hair. Rhian has about 6,000 items.

Maybe we should have a Forum inventory clearing party! OTOH, we might just end up swapping each other's items around and end up with the same (or larger) inventory. Good idea while it lasted.
