There are two things to note here. One is that the filtering is only to do with search. If people don't search for a particular word, there's no point in having that word on the html page, so there's no point in inventing words. Example: the website results are already adult filtered and it won't return any page that has the word "sex" in it's title or description, but it will return pages that have the word joined to something else, such as "sexbed" and ",sex" (the comma is because it's part of a list without spaces). But nobody is going to search for ",sex beds" so there's no point in getting the word in that way. Some people may search for the single word "sexbed" though.
The other thing is that it's the parcel name and description that causes a place/page to be filtered out, and not what is in the content of the page (items on the parcel that are set to show in search). So pages with the word "sex" in them are returned in spite of the adult filter, as long as that word is not in the parcel's name or description.

From: Dilbert Dilweg Marijuana is legal in some states. Namely Cali where LL Main offices are lol
Maybe the reason? Ya know.......I've considered that fact many times while pondering LL's decisions on certain things.....and I've come to the conclusion that they simply do NOT partake ENOUGH~!!! Cause if they DID......well......maybe that's how SL 'started' but then they realized they'd better try and take it seriously. All this filtering.....it's insane.... what difference does it make.....if you're searching for adult content based items....you're gonna know what to look for.....and if you're not.....and you 'oop's happen to find something that IS.......who cares......it's not like you're gonna get sucked into some kind of mind control adult content vortex and be subject to all kinds of obscenities and never recover from the psychological scarring......gimme a break......When I walk into a movie store....I know where the adult movies are, hell I know what's IN the adult movies.......but I don't choose to rent em. I believe that is referred to as 'free will'. Same goes for changing my TV channel if I don't want to watch something (but I usually do cause I have a pretty high morbid cusriosity radar) and I can also choose NOT to go into Fredericks of Hollywood to buy panties (remember that store anyone?.....it was soooooo tacky lol) and it goes on and on and on and ON. They don't need to filter adult content any more then someone needs to come into my house and pre-set my television so I can't find the sports channels! (cause sports on TV bores me to tears and I never watch it) We're all grown up here LL......and if there are people out there running around in SL who choose to be offended by anything they see in SL.....then they need to get a grip.....stop living in a bubble and realize the WORLD doesn't cater to their sense of decency alone. It izzz what it izzzz. OMG....and this after I haven't even finished my first cup of coffee.....eek

Of course "oral" has to be accepted. How else would one search for their Oral Roberts avatar?

The Lab is really on a slippery slope with this filtering stuff.
Also, Frak.

From: Kelli May Tarina, much as I hate to a) support Pep, and b) bog a thread down in details on spelling, the comment is relevant to the thread. If you spell something incorrectly, it will affect whether the search function finds it or not, and whether it matches any filters it has. And I really hope you're not serious when citing the Urban Dictionary as a reference. Did you mean " " will this no longer function? Noone is immune to typos or misspellings which is why the above is mentioned.. When I search -if I missspell- which I commonly do.... I get the above.. oh yeah thats what I mean... I'm sorry I am not so perfect as all you are in my spelling and such but I feel I am normal and therefore will make some mistakes and I will never point out others mistakes in such a way as it diminishes or humiliates the person in error. He constantly does this (or she as I really ahve no idea its gender) and frankly I dont know why I took it off ignore. I wish I could live in ya'lls perfect world where every one spells correctly and no one makes mistakes.. But I am only human......

If Linden Lab can devote time and energy and money to protecting us from the dreaded, dirty "v"-word- so that we have the option of avoiding those nasty female body parts in our searches- why can't the provide a clickable option to take out Traffic as a ranking mechanism in Search results?
I'm not necessarily appalled at the idea of giving people an extra Search-term choice, and at least this is a choice, I'm not prevented from seeing those ugly medical terms for female anatomy. I'm appalled that Linden Lab is spending time on such a worthless Search project when there are far more important ones on which they could work that might truly, actually enhance Second Life for most residents.
Where is Linden Lab's management when it comes to setting project priorities?

Where is Linden Lab's management when it comes to setting project priorities? This is a major reason I think they took something that is a good idea, then turned it into something over the top silly. There are much better projects they could be working on!
