how do u have children in sl

hi all

i kno this sounds silly but where do u get the little children avatars from i dont want to be a child avatar myself just want a littl girl of ny own in sl
but for the life of me i cant find out where to get one from plz plz plz help

I have had child avatar I bought and made my own babies out of hand drawn textures made for specific prims...but they are inventory.
I am not much into taking care of children or being a child any more in roleplay sense.
But there is usually three ways make one out of prims, buy one out of prims or adopt a child avatar.

By the way word of warning about those adoption agencies when I was a baby I choose to be orphan,because it felt icky what I saw.
I didn't like the agencies that were there and same are still around. There isn't many of
them maybe 2 or 3 towards adoptions. There was something how they were overly concerned about scam babies taking advantage of parents.
And they didn't seem too friendly to tiny babies, it was very business like and self serving to whomever ran them didn't seem much for the kids other then placing notecard if they paid for space like the escorts do.

There are adoption centers within SL where you can find kids to adopt. I'd suggest the one in Hampton Heights.

bear in mind, though: adopting a child avvie is a commitment of sorts. We don't go into inventory too good.

I have never had kids in SL (not even sure how I feel about it) so I might be wrong, but this is how I understand it works:

1. Prim baby - if you are looking for a baby to carry around, feed etc. you can buy a scripted prim baby. They are a normal object that attach to you arm and depending on the script they can cry, make baby sounds, blink their eyes etc. You buy the baby and it goes into your inventory and you attach it when you please. They do not truely interact - they just behave like the script says. You sometimes can buy extra poses like feeding, or carry in a sling. You can find some on shop.onrez.com. I don't now how realistic they are, but it's worth a shot. You could also build one yourself.

2. Child avatar roll play - to have a little kid that "have a mind of its own" running around, I believe you will have to find someone who will roll play as your child. So it is another SL member that is the child avatar. I think this is when you use adoption centers like Marianne mentioned earlier, or I guess you can advertise under wanted I guess. I believe you agree on when they will log on to act as your child, and you will pay them for their time. * Edit: I have now been told that this is called allowance during roll play.*

I think the best might be if you see someone in world that has a child to ask them how to go about it.

It's not a big thing... Just about any avatar under 6' tall can be considered a child in some contexts. (=_=)

/me considers starting a thread about a (theoretical) situation of a resident who (theoretically) occasionally uses (theoretical) child avatars being (hypothetically) AR'd for ageplay at a time when (ostensibly) she isn't using one.

Okay... I'm going to try to cover all I can in one post, jes cuz I figure this all needs a good answer once an for all.

The primary way pregnancy is simulated in Second Life is through inworld companies that focus on this particular job. After you consult with them and pay them a requested amount of Linden Dollars, they present the mother-to-be with a set of pregnancy shapes for their avatar as well as a device commonly known as a "tummy talker." It will spout out the particulars of the pregnancy to the mother and all who are around her. Many do get annoyed by tummy talkers, and really don't wish to hear their friend's body's status report. Many also really wish to experience pregnancy inworld, and don't mind a "tummy talker."

Length of pregnancy can vary: For many, it seems six-weeks is the typical gestation time, at which time the service you went through will provide for you an appropriate bundle of prims that look sorta like a baby. You do get a lot of say in the look of this baby. It will also usually have a hold pose and, yes, will use the same"talking" scripting as the ol' tummy. Most prim babies see the virtual light of day for a week or two before heading into the dark recesses of the mother's inventory.

Bear in mind that there have been many reports over 2-3 years of one of the larger companies offering this service not always, um, delivering on their promises. Naturally, I can not name names here.

The other way to have a child is to forego the above route an adopt an inworld child. There are many child avatars, and a large number of them will wish to explore some family role play. Parents adopting children can go through some of the inworld adoption agencies (again, I recommend the one in Hampton Heights, but there are a great many others out there) or, if you're lucky, end up coming across an adoptable kid on your own (this was how I was adopted). Do note, however, that you should not shadow kid regions asking every kid who walks by if they want to be adopted.

in being a parent, you will be expected to provide a room for the kid. You may also wish to help in furnishing the room. Also expect that your charge will want to personalize this space a bit as well. Further, you may also wish to go out shopping with said kid, hitting some of the stores and malls focusing on kid stuff. Do not, however, feel that you have to buy *everything*. There have been isolated incidents of kid avvies who are really only there to mooch lindens and goods from otherwise well-meaning parents. Just like the real world, set guidelines.

With most kids, consider having an openness to some out of character (OOC) discussion as necessary, to make sure they are getting what they need from you, and that you are getting what you need from them. Most want some time from you to "play family" and enjoy having loving, caring parents. Some want to heal old wounds. Some can also be brats, and want to play pranks and even get in trouble from time to time. Work out between each of you want you want in a role play experience as best as you can.

Example: I'm a good kid, somewhat silly at times, and desire a lot of closeness. I prefer being tucked in at night, time to just play and talk with my family, and for them to be proud of my achievements. I also like to explore a lot. I am also an expert builder, and sometimes need to focus on that. On the plus side, I have all my own room furnishings and a slew of toys.

If a kid has been in a family before, they may be bringing sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles and others to the table as well.

Oftentimes, a failed inworld relationship will be devastating on a kid avvie. Bear in mind that when "Clint" or "Brandie" leave you, that kid is still there. He or she may wish to continue to have his or her mommy and daddy, even if you don't. Again, talk directly with them. You may wish to continue, or you may need time to get past this break up before doing so, or whatever. Just let them know what is going on, as they are also in a sort of partnership with you.

I'm sure I'm missing a few things, but this should cover the basics.

That OOC part is very important! Say a swing set in the backyard... have it be a OOC area, then either a parent or child can simply say, "let's go swing for awhile" If someting is bother any involved in the family relationship is must be discussed. And a OOC area must be there.
