sculpts

For nearly two weeks, sculpts refuse to load on worn clothing and in land. Most things are just colorful large balls. Its not just me either, a large amount of people I know in game are having this same issue and LL has not done anything about it yet.
Anyone have a solution?

[EDIT:] It is not cache or my internet. I have no lag issues, sculpts are the only thing that isn’t working correctly.
Everyone says “clear your cache files and relog.”
Its not cache, it has never been that, nor has ever clearing them solved any issue I’ve had in the past with SL.

I made a product using a temp texture for the sculpt map. It was great for the first day or two.

Then people starting saying it wouldn't rez...

Of course I blamed it on LL as you do ;) and promptly recreated the item with a proper texture upload and sent it out.

(I did admit what happened, sh*t happens :) )

Guess I should of added that it wasn’t things I made or just one product?

You're using the standard viewer? This happens to *every* sculpty? Even when you're all alone in a sim, nobody else competing for download bandwidth?

(Sculpties are really annoying under the best of circumstances, but they always have been; I'm not sure what happened in the last couple weeks that could have made them worse. There was a new server version rolled out around then, but I'm not aware of it changing anything that should affect this. It's interesting that you know others who've experienced the same, on that same timeline. Haven't noticed reports here about it, but considering how badly sculpties usually behave, it could just be that folks haven't noticed the change.)

It could also mean that a lot of folks are like me and limit their use of sculpties......for this very reason.

It is every sculpt and every sim, even in sandboxes with vary little people my worn clothing sculpts still won't rez.
As for the viewer, I use emerald, I tried a random one just to see if it was emerald. Meerkat, same issue. Its not the viewer but I could always go back to the main viewer to double check.

Some computer specs would help. Sculpties are slow to load for most any one even on the best computers and fastest connections. But they do load eventually. It's the nature of the beasts. The way everything you see in SL is delivered that contributes to sculpts being so slow. There is very little anyone can do about it. If your computer or hardware is minimal then the problem is grossly more evident.

Just my experience this week - using the official viewer sculpties are fine, but they are newly, and 100%, borked when I use Meerkat. I haven't tried to fix it as I haven't had time, but maybe I'll go and poke at it. Who knows, I might notice something.

Well, it's not 100%, but it is some - and I decided to upload one to see. It uploaded as a strange corrupted-looking image, and the sculpty was mishapen, but I looked at it again in the official viewer and it was fine, the texture was fine. This rings a bell, but I can't think what it is.

Do you adjust up RenderVolumeLodFactor or do you use the default settings?

You have Advanced menu up? If not, ctrl+alt+D (Opt+ctrl+D) will bring it up. Choose "Debug settings" from the drop down menu, a new small window will appear. Type RenderVolumeLodFactor in the window and set the slider to at least 4-5. I use up to 8 if I shall take a picture with high quality.

This could be at least part of the problem. Although I have to wonder just how bad one's rig has to be to have a serious problem with this. My laptop is pretty good, but it is still a laptop, and I have no such problem while using the Kirstens Viewer with just a dual core Intel T9500 2.6GHz/2.6GHz, 4GB of RAM and an NVidia GeForce 9800M GTS 512MB.

I don't have any problems viewing sculpties on my oldest computer, which is single core, 1G memory and a low spec nVidia card. It's the same with the standard and the emerald viewers. Maybe one takes a second or two longer than the other (I don't know) but sculpties rez ok for me. The card was lower spec than SL's required specs 3 years ago when I bought it.

Now that someone has said it, I HAVE noticed issues, myself. I thought it was because I just moved to a new sim.

Personally, I haven't clue, but I'm going to guess that some informed people here will suggest that it's the Display specs.

"Display

Video Adapter Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family (384 MB)"

A lot of your trouble right there. I also saw that your DirectX version is 9. Vista and Windows 7 both support DirectX 10. I think your drivers are a little dated.

I looked around for a DX10, but apparently its only for vista, a lot of searches clarified that, not sure how accurate they are.

I went ahead with 11, I’m not sure if its right, It didn’t just say direct x 11.
Direct X 11 software development kit and end runtime user or web setup.
I’m lost on this…

As for my video, I went into my drivers and it said it’s the most recent release for all of them when I ran the online update check.

I think you are right about Vista and DirectX 10 and Windows 7 and DirectX 11. However that has little, if anything at all, to do with your problem...........SL is OpenGL. I just saw the Windows 7 OS and DirectX 9 so it appeared your driver were a little old for a new OS.

I believe you said your computer is a Dell. Where did you go to check for your driver? The Dell website or Intell? Intell would be the place to look for the latest driver, not Dell (if that's not you manufacturer, then any computer manufacturer). The computer manufacturers usually are quite a few weeks or months behind on their drivers.

I'm editing to add that your major problem (I believe) is that Intel chipset. It's barely, at most, capable of running SL. By directing you to another driver I'm attempting to help you find one that will make your sculpties render a little better......it's never going to be very good though, I'm afraid.

It might be better just to go out and buy a decent nVidia card. Suitable ones are cheap enough.
