Eleven.
It's been really, really bad. Image cache overflows and a lot of scripts that still run, even after their prims have been deleted. Though this might be leftovers from the holiday weekend, but I can't be sure... it's just been horrible lately, and getting worse as the weeks go by. The grid worked its very best several months ago, as far as I can tell. _____________________

It's only been 8 days??? I could swear it's been longer than that, like nearly two weeks! And, yes, it's bad. Very bad. Bad enough that, about every 30 seconds or so, I have to type something just to make sure I'm still connected! Bad enough that my chicken farm has gotten unmanageable because my egg-hatch-preventer-thingy keeps lagging out and allowing eggs to hatch! Bad enough that double-click-to-TP is pretty much the ONLY way I get around now because of all the rubber-banding!
By the way, if anyone would like to buy new-wave adult chickens and get them off my hands, please IM me in-world! _____________________

Isn't it still the latest & greatest, unless you're rezzing a script that's not already loaded on the sim? I thought the mono problem was just when if loads a script onto a sim for the first time. _____________________

I didnt know there was one. no wonder I can hardly move or chat. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-3895 is the one I was thinking of. Babbage Linden is quoted there as saying: [8:14] Babbage Linden: it may be caused by verification of the scripts digital signature on load [8:14] Babbage Linden: although that should only happen the first time a script is rezzed in a region ...but Simon Linden says he's tried the test scripts and was not able to repro the problem. Another is http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-4616 but that happens when somebody TPs into a region. _____________________

The biggest problem is Mono scripts arriving in the sim via Teleport, yes.
But I've also heard that Mono scripts (while faster) are counted as using up four times (I think) the memory of LSL scripts, and that when LL imposes script limits, that will mean a lot less scripts can run on your sim, if they're Mono. _____________________

FWIW, I don't think the current plague is much related to script memory or execution. Not that Mono scripts aren't having problems, too, but there's something else that's dramatically different lately, at least for me. I'm seeing rubber-banding in sims that show consistent spare time. I might suspect my own network connection, if others weren't reporting similar problems. AFAIK, that pretty much means a bottleneck in LL's internal network (routing problem?) or its pipes to the Internet. Or, I suppose, something in the sim scheduler suddenly more b0rked than usual.

Are people entering the region when this happens? edit: an easy way to tell if it's on your end is to fly in circles.. Just fly then hold down the up and left (or right.. your choice) arrow keys. Before that though, do Help -> About Second Life and look for the sim host address.. GreenLife Emerald Viewer 1.23.4 (673) Aug 25 2009 01:59:47 (GreenLife Emerald Viewer) Release Notes Built with MSVC version 1400 You are at 46894.2, 31470.3, 80.9 in xxx located at sim7506.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.34.253:12035) Second Life Server 1.27.2.129782 ...your display may look different but the highlighted bit will be there and is the part you want. Open a command window (start->run->cmd.exe) then type "ping -t sim7506.agni.lindenlab.com" (but the address of your sim host) and press enter. This will start pinging your sim and won't stop until you press ctrl-c. Watch this for a while. What you really want, SL or not, is to have the 'time' value to be pretty consistant. It's ok if it moves around a little but stability is what you want to see. Back in SL, start flying in circles. It'll be obvious when the sim (or your connection) burps because you will go flying off in a straight line instead of flying in circles. Once the sim (or your connection) wakes up, you'll rubber band back to flying in circles. After this happens, go back to the command window and look at the previous 'time' values. If there was a spike in ping times or if there were timeouts, it's probably something network related, though it could be anywhere between your PC and the sim host hardware. If the ping just kept truckin' along as-normal, it's probably something like SVC-4616 or the mono rezzy thing. Yes, it's a lot of text but it's easy to do. Try it! ![]() _____________________

I've been on SL FOUR times today and all four times my avatar has refused to rezz. Getting tired of this...

Worse for me. If I dare to leave my home sim, I spend most of my time watching my avatar walk into the blue void beyond the edge of the sim....

I had that happen to me yesterday, twice, I think. I went to sit down, and then suddenly I was in the ocean.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I've been doing a lot of watching my av continue walking (once I can actually get her to walk) even after I let up on the keys, and she just keeps walking, through walls, and like Malia said, out over the sea....

What is "rubber banding"? When things are relatively stable, excessive rubber-banding usually means network problems, but Sindy rightly notes that some nasty problems have been creeping into the sim itself that could also lead to the problem. (I'll try the test next time I get in-world, Sindy--thanks!) _____________________

What is "rubber banding"? That's when you're sorta walking along then, possibly without you knowing it, the sim stops responding for a bit. When the sim wakes back up, you snap back - like a rubber band - to where the sim thinks you are. It's due to something called client-side prediction. To smooth out network (and server) issues, the stuff that runs on your PC sorta takes how you have been moving recently and keeps applying that to what you're seeing, even if the server has stopped sending it updates. Many (most?) video games and such do that sorta thing. You can really see it if you're in a car/boat/plane, moving at a good speed, then slow down hard right before you go over a sim line. The viewer gets a little out of control and will actually make you go backwards if the destination sim doesn't start giving you updates quickly enough. You sorta go flying backwards then snap forward to the destination sim and keep going. It's a weird effect... edit: and.. yeah, what Qie said. _____________________

I have never had lag or rubber banding on my homestead before,or the homestead i had for a year previously,i ve been on this one about 6 months problem free.
For about 2 weeks when racing our cars on the track, all of a sudden its like going off world but not,i go into the wild blue yonder then end back on the track again. The last couple of days.flying is like a sim crossing,i just keep flying and i m a stand alone sim, walking is the same, some times,i just don t stop then rubber band back, I have never seen this on my sim before, this happens with just me on the sim or one other avy |

Well, okay, now I know the technical name for it. I think what's interesting about rubber banding is that while it's going on, I can pan around to the side to see what my av looks like when she's walking. She's quite the purposeful strider.

I've seen mine do a lot of rubber banding in the past couple of days, too. Wish SL would do some "emergency maintenance" and fix the non-rezzing problem at least. Going inworld again to see if I'm there. LOL Maybe the fifth time will be the charm???

Yep - except for figuring out where to position the camera by default (which, strange as it may seem, is done by the sim), all the camera and drawing stuff is done on your PC. You could unplug the network cable from your PC while you were in SL then keep moving the camera around and look at stuff until SL figured out you were toast. _____________________

Talked to someone inworld earlier today who said SHE COULD SEE ME. How, I ask, can other people see me if I see myself as a white blob??? I have not rezzed. Tried clearing cache, rebooting, nothing's worked.
