i haven't seen non-loaded grey avatars in the RC client at all. Non-loaded avatars to me now look like this teal-blue-ish-white plasma ball.

I see the plasma balls. I also see non-loaded gray avatars...that's what the plasma turns into, if the shape loads before the textures.

But there's no confusing a non-loaded gray golem with a muted avatar. Muted avs are not only gray, they are a flat gray silhouette, with no depth to them.

I for one approve. Most of the people on my Mute list are as visually unappealing as they are in sound and print. It's also a good reminder. "Oh, so-n-so is muted. That's why I can't hear him".

If a gray shadow is messing up your photo shoot, just unMute them for a minute.

Yeah, but…

…if you mute someone you can't send actions against them, right?

You mean AR them? Sure you can. However, if you "directly interact" with a muted av, such as send them an IM or inventory, it will automatically un-Mute them.

"Visual muting" ......

If it really bugs you, try unchecking "Avatar Imposters" under Edit / Preferences / Graphics :).

As soon as I did this...it wiped out my entire mute list. Both are connected apparently.

People only think about mutes, in terms of "muted griefers".. but a HUGE problem that shopkeepers have to deal with, is that it's way too easy for customers to accidentally mute the shop owners.

Personally, I would still prefer that mute-ers be able to see the mute-ee's prims. I would like people who come to my shop (for example) who might have muted one my my notecard givers by accident.. to be able to see that I've determined that they've muted me, (a TOO-COMMON CAUSE of "item not delivered";) and I'm trying to communicate with them via hovertext, to help them unmute me so that the product they've paid for can be delivered.

I even sell a product for this exact purpose:

This is another really a BAD idea socially, that looked good on Linden Lab's drawing boards, and I am in favour of removing this "grey people" mute. Thankfully, it seems to only be implemented in the RC.

Is there a Jira on this that we can vote/comment on?

I'm not sure how you can blame LL since you're the one who was ultimately responsible for making people mute you?

I'm not trying to flame you, but a friend wanted a landmark/notecard dropper on arrival as well for her parcel and I pointed out that it would be a bad idea since people would mute the object for spamming them which would mute her. She didn't go for it in the end and settled for a "touch me" prim instead.

Besides, anyone using the RC who has you on mute will automatically unmute you already if they: IM you, offer you inventory, or pay you.

so, the other question is....

muted avies are NOT grey silhouette figures. why?

somebody just mentioned this 'new feature' to me, and i'd never seen it. we did a mutual muting party and... i still dont see it. i got the rc 1.22.6... i still dont see it. i turned on avatar imposters and... yeah, i STILL dont see it.

so what's the other part of the trick? i have an nvidia card in this machine.
