I've noticed this for a few days but I have greyed out avatars on my screen. Tonight I realize that everyone on my mute list is now this blank shade of grey when they are in my line of vision. Why would I want muted people to be more noticable on my screen by being grey? I have them on ignore so that they blend into the masses and forgotten! Linden Lab..please change this gawd ugly improvement! It's not!

"Visual muting" has been a feature all through 1.20 RC.
I haven't tried it recently, but in the first iterations of the RC it was linked with "Avatar Imposters". If it really bugs you, try unchecking "Avatar Imposters" under Edit / Preferences / Graphics . |

Some people wear intentionally obnoxious avatars to grief and making them solid gray just gets rid of them without making them invisible. It also removes all their prims. I think over time you will end up ignoring the gray people.

I'm thankful because of thise, because one avatar had a very laggy avatar he used to grief, ignoring him did the trick and he couldn't bump into me either!

maybe you should demand Grey People become clouds, but maybe a different of colour to the Ruth clouds, maybe grey?
or you could just ask Linden Labs to remove everyone else visually from SL, so nothing spolis your view, i mean who the hell mutes so many people their screen fills up with 'grey people', that's so sad ![]() _____________________

/me wonders if there's a market for grey muted-look avatars.
Drive people mad I look grey to to you? You must have muted me? PLUS: It would be a great way to be Ultra-low ARC without being naked in public. Great for problematic sim-crossing too. ROFL at Marianne's "stand out" _____________________

I can see the reasoning behind making muted avatars grey, but they spoil the scene, especially if you want to take a snapshot in a club, say.
So I think that muted avatars should appear grey but you should have the option of making them invisible. It would also be good if you could automatically become invisible to the muted avatar. Thus, in effect, muter and mutee appear, to each other, to no longer exist. _____________________

That's a pretty neat idea - you should suggest that on the suggestion thing.
"Vuisual Muting" - it also means that if you have a lower power system you can visually mute ppl you dont need to see or interact with in a crowded area thus making your SL experience more smooth. You may still want a white keyline around the space to indicate a presence - it would be too easy for ppl to go into ghost mode and spy otherwise. While I'm sure the intention would be for the system to only allow you to ghost or visually mute others somebody would pretty soon figure it out to vm yourself, it would be far more effective than wearing an invisible prim suit thing |

actually wouldn't the best option be if that if you mute someone, they don't see you, or does that happen?

Thus, in effect, muter and mutee appear, to each other, to no longer exist. I believe that the term for the concept making avatars and maybe their stuff invisible is "Symmetrical No-Draw". It was mentioned at 38 minutes into the (in)famous Daniel Linden video http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2642394922604088000 A problem arises with collision boundaries. What happens if your position overlaps with something that you can't see but others can? However, Daniel indicated that they were looking more at a Symmetrical Ban List, in which people adopt the ban-list of people they trust. This is something completely different, and very open to abuse by drama merchants. _____________________

Ah a technical issue rather than a social/moral one - wouldn't you just bump into things rather than overlap? Rather like if you have an invisible prim in the way?

Yes, a lovely build, was sorry I couldn't stay longer, was after midnight for me and my viewer went stark black and white, could only see attachments as black and everything else but the sky was white. _____________________

Problem with rendering muted avatars as greys is that, this is also how avatars are rendered when lag means the data hasn't arrived. I'd suggest they choose a different colour for muted avatars.
or possibly a different colour for not-yet-loaded avatars. It amounts to the same thing. _____________________

Griefers would love that one. You might not want to see someone, but you'd need to at least know if someone's standing next to you or not .Yeah, but… …if you mute someone you can't send actions against them, right? _____________________
