We used to have a service called IGE that sold and purchased Linden, and one night their IGE representative gave my friend $L770,000 when she purchased 7k.
She was nice enough to give it back to the freaked out rep.

Wow, sounds like they need to work on the AR system as opposed to the content theft system. _____________________

even ll realise its a crock.
i remember during the gambling crackdown robin linden clearly saying 'l$ or any other thing of value'. ...They go out of their way to emphasize that L$ are not money, have no value, and may be erased any time LL feels like it. I am not sure it would hold up in court, however. |

Now here's a few facts. Any payment made directly, person to person, logs in transaction history as a *gift*. Gifts, in fact, can be reclaimed by LL if no tangible item (skin, prims, etc) changed hands. That's a little worrying, as I regularly send (small amounts of) money between alts as 'gifts'. One of my alts is my 'savings account' and sends L$ to my main for big purchases, rent & the like. Maybe I should have her pay my rent direct (if possible) to cut down the risk? _____________________

Maybe I should have her pay my rent direct (if possible) to cut down the risk? Now here's where it gets a little confusing. Passing money to your alts is not likely to get you in any trouble, as LL can see where they came from. Typically what happens is LL's fraud flag only goes up if they see unusual transactions... or they are already tracking the stolen L's. As far as the tangible items go, When LL reclaimed the money from me...This guy had taken me shopping.. and used the gift vendors to buy me things. I contacted most of the Vendors, and they had no record of LL reclaiming money. I had also used a portion of that to buy more land in my sim, and they didn't take my land... again, they ONLY took the L's back. Wouldn't surprise me at ALL to find they have amended that policy to include goods. As far as the AR's taking 2 weeks, that was on suspicion of fraud/money laundering, as they have to check every transaction they suspect, and then logs, and so on and so on... as far as i know, most investigations do not take that long, but they are extremely through in the fraud accounts. Of course it didn't help that i point blank asked them if they enjoyed reading what he paid me good money to get.. and who, from LL was going to pay me for their *free read* >.> When I asked Echo how i was supposed to get paid for my time.. He said.. you earned it once, you can earn it again. I said Dude... read that shit.. i EARNED it the first time... while he agreed.. i never did get any money back. That was a hellva loss, to say the least. This is one area that could stand a revamp...when you click to pay someone.. there should be a pie menu...and options. Photographers, landscapers, anyone that does *services* in SL is subject to this same issue. ~Brie _____________________

No? That seems pretty sad if thats how the AR system works. Keeping stolen money usually ends up bad in any other situation. I would be rather annoyed if I had to keep a certain amount of $L in my account just in case LL someday decides to answer the AR and take the money back. _____________________

How do you know that the L$ you "send back" are the same L$ they paid you? You could just end up laundering the L$ for them. You have to go through each and every L$, matching up the UUIDs. |

All the original Lindens have UUIDs starting with a2e76fcd-9360-4f6d-a924-0000000000...

Those have got to be counterfeit. The odds of two Lindens getting UUIDs that differ only by 1 have got to be less than the odds of getting a royal fizzbin. And as far as I know, those odds have never been calculated. _____________________

Especially if cross-grid assets and a few other planned changes are ever implemented UUID collisions are going to be at a higher risk of happening and causing problems. I think it's actually been admitted before (although I don't have a source handy) that the main way LL prevents collisions, especially with objects, is with a series of hacks in the asset and sim systems.

Basically when you receive Lindins from an unreliable source they were take that balance from your account and you end up with a negative balance. Happened to someone know, she bought lindins from some site and now she is 8000 lindins under. But she didn't know the site was bad, she is new to secondlife.

So far as I know they don't do anything to prevent collisions. They just depend on the odds. Never tell me the odds! _____________________
