FYI--you can go out to Stellar Isle and get a free t-shirt commemorating 9/11 to wear to the memorials. Go to any of the Men's or Women's shops there and you will see a display to receive one.

Celestial Requiem NYC 63, 180, 28 (Mature) World Trade Center 175, 79, 26 (Mature) |

No, they are making memorials to a pair of great buildings.
And memorials to the lives lost. _____________________

The World Trade Center build is very impressive, featuring the Wall of Names. You can leave flowers and donations, and they will have an event tomorrow from the time the first plane hit until the towers fell.
That would be 5:46 - 7:28 SL time. http://slurl.com/secondlife/World%20Trade%20Center/172/82/26 |

Yet you still opened your mouth in a very disrespectful way about the memorials. They arent about the buildings, the reason whatever happened happened or any political drama...its about the lives that were lost. I think everyone could show some respect to life....period. You can easily do your bashing in another thread thats more on topic with whatever your issue is. _____________________

I don't agree with Kyrah but his fairly abrassive attack on the memorials does make me think the question how long is long enough and it's a question that will come up each year, it has been 6 years since the attack, will large scale memorials (RL and SL) keep being relevant in 10 years? 20? 50? and what does that say to that say to the people who die each day in car accidents, of murder, of natural causes and never get a meorial in their name, never get their names read aloud or their picture on CNN? Just a thought.

We still remember Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Lockerbie, I'm sure the loved ones who lost people in Madrid will remeber them for years to come. I can only speak for myself, but I remember them every time I pass that place. And I will remember that awful day until the day I die. _____________________

I remember my daughter was a week old on 9/11...it had a huge impact on my life and in turn changed how I have raised my children, even. I agree with the statement above, they will go on as long as those who were impacted by them maintain them. Just as those that lost loved ones in car accidents or to illnesses remember their loved ones on aniversaries such as this.
I, for one, will be wandering the memorials in SL tomorrow. I debated on making one but I wanted to be able to spend time visiting them instead. I look forward to seeing what has been created in SL. _____________________

There's a big reason why I don't patronize any such "memorial" efforts...especially the ones surrounding "9/11". I'm sick of seeing people stand around and mope and mouth platitudes about that dreadful day...and still fail to recognize that we haven't done a d*mn thing about it, really. We never acknowledged the answer we were given when we all threw our hands to the sky and screamed "Why, oh WHY?".
Instead of listening...we turned the whole awful episode into a short, triple-shot of redneck nationalism. Instead of making the world a better place...we've made it worse. Instead of working for peace...we've made certain that people hate us even more intently. So, why should I mope around with other people, murmuring about how terrible that tragedy was...when all I really have to do is sit back and wait for it to happen all over again? |

If you really think that no one has done anything to try and improve the world (and country) we are in since 9/11, then you are in fact sitting back and waiting for it to happen all over again. Sometimes things that are done are not seen by 'everyone' and sometimes change comes about slowly and appears when one least expects it. I certainly admit I havent done enough, but change isnt always a huge on the news for the world to see type of thing. What are *you* doing to change things? Just curious, since that was the basis of the post. For some people 'doing something' comes from remembering each year...gives em a boost to remember what happened and improve themselves and those around them again. Memorials are a good way to do that. edit to add content to keep the thread on topic...as was the shouted request below o.O _____________________

It is true that we lost a unique opportunity at that time. The US populace. not to speak of citizens of other countries who were also affected, had an immense surge of desire to work to improve the world. This energy went unchanneled, purposely dissipated by the malevolent incompetence of the U.S. government.
Nevertheless, there are those who still have need to process the massive emotions spawned that day, and memorials are for them. |

Great Response Brenda. LETS KEEP THE THREAD TO THE OP TOPIC PLEASE... QFT, both of you. Thank you. 9/11 was a deep tragedy that happened to all of us who were alive and aware that day. Pausing to remember what happened and honor the innocent dead is part of the need for closure all of us feel who have feelings. Those who do not, and will not respect that, deserve no respect themselves. But leave that for another day. For today... Rest In Peace, all that fell that day. You will not be forgotten. |

Rest In Peace, all that fell that day. You will not be forgotten. I personally would like to remember the 4000+ Coalition deaths and 50,000+ Iraqi civilians, in addition to the WTC victims. _____________________

And for myself I would add the estimated 500,000 Iraqi civilians who died due to the 10 years of sanctions leading up to the latest conflict in that country. We all have things we can remember on that day. The twin towers build in SL has a museum of images at the top of it which is a very powerful reminder of the evil and violence unleashed that day. I will stop there for a few moments and make my own silent wish for more peace and less evil in both our First and Second lives. _____________________

This sucks. I was just remembering the Memorial Day that I spent over there. Now I'm sitting here crying into a Kleenex at my desk.
Sorry. OT. _____________________

I went to the observation deck at the twin towers.. and unless I'm missing something, there is no memorial to the victims that I can find. All I see everywhere I turn are pictures of buildings burning up and falling down, pictures of terrified new yorkers staring up at the towers as they burn, etc. Not the kind of thing I really care to re live. It's just not necessary to burn those images back into people's heads again.
Very disappointed. _____________________
